It was dark when we arrived so couldn't see castle from the road. We followed sat nav and brown signes down to the entrance drive. Wow what a spectacular building awaited us. The darkness of the night made this even more amazing the castle was dimly lit by christmass lights and this made it seem somewhat unreal ...we were staying at a castle. A real castle.. if you have always wanted to stay at a castle you will apriciate our exited but quite YES a castle..|Reception awaited for us to check in through a wooden door and wow it was Like stepping back in time we were given our state room key and of we went.|The room even though had some modern amenities TV kettle and a coffee maid Still kept it's feel from the 14th century. A massive 4 poster bed so soft and nice. Lovely nights sleep. All that was missing was the tattle of chains and a lost LOL.|The resterant was amazing food that deserves a mitchelan two star award Yes it was that delicious I won't say what we had but we had three courses of the most beautiful food that was art work on a plate . The deserts are all hand made and are worthy to present to royalty they were that nice. The head chef and his team deserve a standing ovarian for exerlance and perfection. |The waiter service was excellent friendly and helpful explaining what we were eating I did ask a few questions about the breed of the duck as ot was magnificent. |A magnificent wounderfull experience and now we can say WESTAYED AT A CASTLE..and show our photos as proof

Fabulous room - we were upgraded to the Richard 11 suite which was a lovely surprise. The room was immaculate and decorated to a very high standard with a quirky entrance to the bathroom through the wardrobe door. Comfortable bed, fluffy pillows and excellent choice of complementary refreshment's. |Reception staff professional and friendly and the food in the restaurant was fantastic for both dinner and breakfast. Would definitely stay again

We recently stayed overnight for a birthday celebration, and it was fabulous. The Elizabethan banquet was a highlight, with fantastic food and superb entertainment that really added to the atmosphere. The hotel itself is steeped in history, with an ambiance that takes you back in time. Our room was incredibly comfortable, especially the bed, which made for a restful night’s sleep. The breakfast the next morning was lovely with a vast selection to choose from—truly something for everyone. The staff were exceptional: polite, friendly, and very knowledgeable, which made us feel well taken care of. All in all, a fantastic experience that I’d highly recommend!

Beautiful historic castle. Very spacious room, comfortable, immaculately clean and warm. Dinner in Knights Restaurant was amazing. Breakfast was good- some items could have been little hotter. All staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. ||Immediate local area has nothing to offer, very run down town but location is easy for access to A1(M) for Durham or Newcastle.

Beautiful hotel with loads of history attached. Food and service were first class. The hotel is also a great base for day trips nearby. Only negative for us was there were no leisure facilities. My wife loves to swim every morning, but not to be.

Wonderful stay at historical Lumley Castle. Beautiful furnishings and antiques all around and about the castle. Location is picturesque. Efficient and friendly staff. Good food and very nicely presented in the bar area. Comfortable and quiet room situated in the court yard. A definite recommendation from me.

Staff unfriendly from the onset. Booked a large table for a special event. Not enough food for everyone for afternoon tea. Lots was left as poor quality - sandwiches had too little filling, bread was dry. Scones were dry and tasteless. Begging for cream, milk, more tea, all of us were sharing as much as possible! Cakes were nice! Unfortunately a lot of us had diarrhoea all night with stomach cramps. Would not go again, very poor, was going to take my mum here for her Birthday, but won't be bothering. Was hungry and thirsty when I got home, very disappointed 😒

After a really stressful morning involving my car breaking down, myself and my partner had a lovely overnight stay at the Castle! Everything was absolutely stunning, from the castle suite we were in, to the lovely food at the Knights Restaurant.

Special mention goes to Sarah (the lady with the awesome tattoo sleeves) and Chloe (who somehow managed to keep a straight face at my ramblings about Jammy Dodger tattoos).

Everyone was so welcoming but personally, my highlight was getting to meet Lady Poppet, The Castle Cat!

We'll be back in the future ♡
