Celebrating our 20th anniversary, my wife and I booked a one night stay at the hotel. We booked a suite, as it was a special occasion. Having read some of the reviews on trip advisor, I began to wonder whether we had made the right choice and must confess to being apprehensive when we arrived. However, I couldn't have been more wrong! The hotel was delightful. From the helpful reception staff when we booked in, the location of the room, overlooking the garden, the room itself which was superb (and very warm) with great facilities. We arrived on December 23rd and checked out the following day. We used the leisure club during the afternoon and the pool and sauna were very nice, though the steam room wasn't so great and needs some work. I was surprised that someone posted about a robbery in the men's changing rooms, as he leisure club was pretty quiet all afternoon and you can't enter the changing room without signing in, so very strange! We ate in the restaurant off the set menu and my wife and I thought the food was excellent, the service swift and courteous. Breakfast the following morning was a buffet arrangement, plus a selection of hot food cooked to order, which again was excellent and with plenty of choice.|Our room was number 80, the 'Queen Elizabeth Suite' which comprised two good sized rooms, plus a large, very clean modern bathroom with separate bath and shower. The bedroom had a huge very comfortable bed, with lovely cotton linen. There was a 'Nespreso' machine in addition to the usual tea and coffee making facilities and we both enjoyed some 'proper coffee' during our stay. The living room was comfortable with sofa and chairs, plus doors opening on to a small garden terrace (we didn't use as it was December!!) plus another TV. We were delighted with our stay and plan to return in the summer months to enjoy the beautiful grounds the hotel is located in. In closing my wife and I have never stayed at the Macdonald Alveston Manor before and we have no commercial links to the company. We are just so grateful they made our anniversary stay very special. Thank you.

Have recently stayed for an overnight spa stay, upgraded to a deluxe room, however I don’t know what was deluxe about it?
The pool area has 8 beds and the rest are chairs, the sauna is absolutely not what is on the photos! It wasn’t to me a spa swimming pool it was cold, my treatment was a 25 minute massage, which was definitely only 20 mins, the masseuse had a cold and barely made the effort to give me a good enough massage, we booked breakfast for 9:30 and then had to sit in another overflow room as they were full.

It’s a comfortable bed and quiet hotel but not fantastic facilities!

We booked two rooms for a 3 nigh Christmas break to relax and enjoy ourselves. Sadly the whole experience at this hotel was dreadful. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The only thing good that stood out was the the exceptionally dedicated and professional waiting staff who were professional at their job. As for the food? Absolutely non descriptive. Each meal was a total disaster from start to finish. The budget for the chef must have been about £1.25p per person. You couldn't describe actually how bad it was. Every dish was a disaster. I will never ever return to a Mcdonald hotel or recommend them to anyone. Christmas come but once a year and should be an unforgettable experience. It definitely was but not for the right reasons. Well done Mcdonald and Co for failing to provide us with what would be expected from a 4* hotel! Complaints like this should be listened to and taken seriously. Your Staff and customers deserve it.

Just not a spa! Pretty great hotel, just don't expect a spa. It has a pool, tiny sauna and the steam room wasn't in use. There is no jacuzzi and not enough space to sit around the pool. Room, breakfast, massage were all good. Check in felt stressed and disorganised. Great location and beautiful old building. So mixed experience.

We returned to this hotel after staying for a weekend early in the year. Very relaxing stay and extremely comfortable, huge bed. Lovely staff and a great location. First stay was in one of the luxury rooms, this time a standard room - however it was still very good, plenty of space, nice decor and all that you would expect in a 4* room.

Sadly disappointed. Location was nice.
Booked a overnight stay for 1 night £180 , then for the treatments on top was £200, then £7 for parking.. then additional for breakfast… the rooms were cold and the steam room was not working when arrived.

Johnny was helpful at reception and provided breakfast but feel it was unfair to pay for a spa night away without no steam room or being told it was broken, and paying additional for treatments without being told that booking a spa day it’s self would of worked out better value for money.

Other reception staff was not friendly or helpful, and treatments were supposed to be 55 minutes and worked out less by the time they found our forms, overall felt unhappy by whole experience.

Would not recommend.

Went for a, murder mystery weekend bought as a present. The receptionist never mentioned the use of spa. Gave an option of breakfast time, then told us, we could have 9 15. The room was so disappointing a tiny box room for £180 00 over looking a garage (50) the rooms do not match the beauty of the hotel. Breakfast was warm and there were no Danish pastries as I just wanted a, continental. Would I stay here again definitely NO

On the plus side the room was clean and quiet, staff were pleasant and the location is great just a short walk to town and the RSC.|However:|Bed was a bit on the hard side rather than firm. Aircon worked well but noisily. Shower leaked all over the floor and soaked two towels mopping up the mess.|Checkin was a bit slow. We were told we’d be OK to come a bit earlier than 3.00 so we got there for 2.30 but were only allowed to complete everything but not have a key. The bar and tiny lounge were full so we stood around with our bags for 30 minutes. At 3.00 there was a massive and confused queue.|We weren’t informed until the day before that there was a £7 car park charge, despite my emailing to ask if I had to book a space or anything (you don’t).|Breakfast was the absolute worst I’ve ever had anywhere. It’s self service which means everything is only slightly warm and a bit congealed. I asked for vegetarian sausages, which aren’t out, they came piping hot half way through my meal and were disgusting - they just tasted of salt. The potato scones should be avoided as well - they like little bits of rubber. Pastries are just mini slightly stale croissants. Selection of cheap cereals. Tea is already made in a flask so you can imagine what that tastes like. Cheap bitter orange juice.|They offer a range of alternatives to the regular cooked breakfast but all at a £5 supplement. How avocado and egg on toast is worth another fiver on top of the already £24 fee I can’t imagine. The whole breakfast experience would put me off eating anything else here.||I’d stay again for theatre trips but I’d eat out (there’s a Huffkins close by for breakfast) and probably checkin later to try and avoid the queue.
