Nestled within the Highland Resort, it benefits from immediate access to the expansive Aviemore area, a renowned destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The resort itself provides a wealth of recreational opportunities, including walking trails, golf courses, and of course, the nearby Loch Morlich. Guests are afforded a truly immersive experience of the Scottish countryside, enjoying breathtaking views and the tranquility of the Highlands. The proximity to Aviemore village also offers convenient access to local shops, restaurants, and entertainment.

Accommodation and Amenities

The hotel offers a range of accommodation options, catering to diverse needs and preferences. • Kids’ Club: A dedicated area for children to enjoy activities and entertainment, a significant draw for families.
  • Outdoor Swimming Pool: Offering a refreshing escape, particularly during the warmer months.
  • Fitness Centre: Equipped with modern equipment for guests who wish to maintain their fitness routine.
  • Conference and Meeting Facilities: Suitable for business travelers and groups.

It’s worth noting that the dining options are described as ‘basic,’ suggesting a focus on providing essential meals rather than a gourmet culinary experience. However, the hotel provides a pleasant setting for enjoying meals and drinks with stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

However, the hotel consistently receives positive feedback regarding the friendliness of the staff and the overall value for money. The hotel’s success in hosting events like New Year’s Eve suggests strong operational capabilities and a commitment to providing a positive guest experience, despite its age. It’s likely that the hotel maintains a strong focus on service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for its guests.

Recommended Information for Visitors

Potential visitors are advised to:

  • Book in Advance: Especially during peak season (summer and winter holidays) and for special events.
  • Consider Room Type: Given the mixed feedback on the rooms, carefully review the room descriptions and choose a room type that meets your needs.
  • Explore Aviemore: Take advantage of the area's numerous attractions and activities.
  • Be Aware of Dining Limitations: If a diverse culinary experience is a priority, consider supplementing hotel meals with meals in local restaurants.

Overall, the Macdonald Morlich Hotel offers a solid base for exploring the Scottish Highlands. While it may not be a luxurious, ultra-modern establishment, its location, family-friendly amenities, and convenient access to outdoor activities make it a worthwhile choice for travelers seeking a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

We went for the NYE celebrations which was very well run and the evening was superb. With regards to the resort itself, the Morlich was probably one of the better ones. Everything was fine just a bit old and run down nowadays. Basic food and drink options, the kids had a good time. A bit better than a butlins.

The hotel is definitely not a 4 star. Top range 3 star at best. The room was clean. It was advertised as a king sized bed, however putting 2 single beds together is very misleading. The Italian restaurant, the staff are nice but the service is very very slow. Took me an hour to get food. The location is ideal. The sports centre is good and spacious. The pool is good fun. The gym needs a complete modernisation program. Not enough equipment and in a very small room. The sports centre could utiltse space more effectively and have a state of the art gym in the other bigger rooms. It would be used well, however this is sadly not the case. I will return and use this hotel in the future. The price is not cheep and if your expecting Hilton quality then this is not the hotel for you.

Start by saying that the staff are all really lovely and helpful. However I came on a Sunday night while traveling to work nearby and I spent most of the time walking from one venue to the next as lots of things were "closed as out of season". I ate at Aspects restaurant and even though the staff were lovely, the pace of the service was so slow. I have never been here "in season" however highly recommend to not attend "Out of season" I would stay in the Highlands hotel or not on any of these properties.

While the location of the hotel in such a charming town was a highlight, several issues significantly marred our experience.

To start, I was traveling with my partner and my elderly mother and had to book two rooms for the three of us since there were no triple rooms available. Despite requesting rooms close to each other due to my mother's age and mobility concerns, we were assigned rooms five or six rooms apart. While I understand that room availability can be unpredictable, this was quite inconvenient for us.

More concerning was the condition of the entrance to one of the rooms, which was pitch dark. This lack of lighting posed a safety hazard, and when I approached the reception staff about it, I was met with an unhelpful response, being told simply that there was nothing to be done at the moment and engineers will attend to it.

Our disappointment continued the following morning at breakfast. We were informed that breakfast would begin at 7 AM, as indicated in the hotel's check-in documents. However, when we arrived at the buffet area in the adjacent building, a young server politely checked us off the guest list and offered us preferred seating. As we picked our food and walked back to our table, we were confronted by another staff member. This person, who seemed to be in charge, informed us that breakfast was not available to us until 7:30 AM and that the current breakfast service was for a tour group only.

His demeanour was noticeably hostile, and he made us feel extremely unwelcome. Despite having already been checked in by the previous server, this staff member questioned us and made it clear that he did not want us there. Throughout our meal, he closely monitored our actions, glaring at us and walking around our table, making us feel as though we were under surveillance. This behaviour made us feel targeted and uncomfortable, and we couldn't help but feel that this treatment was due to our skin colour. This level of discrimination is unacceptable and deeply distressing, and it ruined our dining experience.

Overall, our stay fell far short of our expectations, making it the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had. We will certainly choose another hotel for our next visit to the area and will not consider any Macdonald hotels or resorts anywhere in the world.

I hope you will take these concerns seriously and address them to improve the experience for future guests.

Stayed here for two nights with my wife and we wish we hadn’t.
Booked a king room with king bed, got a small room with two singles pushed together. Also mattress and floor was stained with mysterious fluid (I didn’t try to find out what it was, not my thing)
The heating was on all the time, the window wouldnt open, our room was next to the lift which was super noisy all night so barely slept. The halls weren’t clean and just found the staff weren’t helpful at all.

Was really disappointed with our stay at the hotel. The location was great, such a nice town to visit. Will just find another hotel to stay in when we visit again.

Had a great weekend in Aviemore helped greatly by staying in the Morlich Hotel. The staff were excellent, from reception to dining room , cleaning 👌.. we ate in The Aspect restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. Great choices. Aviemore itself is a busy place with plenty to do. Spent a day on the " beach " at Loch Morlich . Lovely soft sand with great views and a hive of watersports. Tried a couple of bars in Aviemore. Very lively at times . Did the Aviemore Orbital walk and met many friendly people enroute. Visited the Wildlife Park which was also a good day out.

My partner and I spent an evening here on Friday and I only came to write a review about Aidan, who was on reception when we checked in. He was so helpful and friendly and went out his way to make sure we were comfortable. We were very grateful to him.
