Had a lovely night's stay here with dinner and breakfast. The food is delicious and so are the cocktails. The staff are very attentive and happy to help at all times. Didn't get round to trying the spa so will have to come back for that. Only minor detail would be the toilet paper quality.

We have had a super weekend with our dog at this very impressive looking hotel. We got past the debacle of room 45 above the spa, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that room was hotter than the sauna. When we were taken to the room it had a portable fan running, so if you know there is an issue why put guests in there? Consequently on the first night we got very little sleep. They did move us to another room for the remaining 2 nights which was much better. We ate in the Cloisters restaurant twice and it was superb. The pool area is lovely as is the steam room, but the jacuzzi is dated and not warm enough. Think they will be improving this soon? Staff are friendly, big shout out to Nick who was great. Can recommend this hotel but ask not to be put above the spa?

Wine Tasting and 8 Course Menu - we did wine tasting in the cellar which was such a unique experience. It was great, the sommelier was extremely knowledgable and such a fun evening. We then went to the Emerald restaurant where we had the 8 course menu with wine pairings. We had a brilliant afternoon and evening and look forward to returning!

I can’t begin to cover how amazing this experience was! Everybody we came into contact with was lovely, from Linda and Elias in the dining room, to Desmond who showed us to our room, to Tracy who greeted us and got us settled when we arrived! The rooms are immaculate - beds like clouds, gorgeous bathtub, bathrobe and slippers provided. It had everything you could ever desire. We were so fortunate to come in Nov after they had started setting up for Christmas. What a special stay we had! Thank you to everyone at Matfen Hall for a wonderful experience!

Beautiful hotel but certainly not 5 stars. Stayed one night for a Secret Escapes getaway as a party of 4. Arrived for our early check in but was told there was no early check in, even though my booking said there was. Was told we had been given a room upgrade, from a balcony room to a suite. Arrived at the room and was really disappointed. Certainly not a suite! We went back to reception to ask for our balcony rooms but told there were none left. After leaving us waiting for sometime they came back and offered us an alternative. To be fair the rooms they gave us were amazing. Huge and clearly an upgrade this time! The rooms were beautifully furnished. No milk in any of the 4 rooms we were in, we had to go to the bar to ask for some. No biscuits either! We ate in the Keepers restaurant which was nice enough but a bit soul-less. Breakfast was very nice. No late check in as was part of the Secret Escapes deal! I emailed several days before our visit to enquire about spa treatments and still no reply. Didn’t bother to visit the spa once there! Overall lacking the 5 star service you’d expect! Could be amazing if they just paid more attention to detail.

Staff go above and beyond, especially Alyson and Laura.
The keepers has great food and service in a relaxed atmosphere
Used for many high class corporate events such as McLaren cars!
Good spa with nice pool
Owners are investing a lot into developing
Looking forward to returning soon.
You won’t regret a stay here!

Very nice. We had a Sunday stay. Used the spa. Lunch in the restaurant and drinks in the various bars on the evening. All very nice. Service was very good. Would recommend and hope to be back soon!

We booked a 3 night stay and now on day three before we leave in the morning it’s worth confirming this hotel has provided first class room accommodation, professional friendly service from arrival to and during our stay. The quality of all food breakfast & evening meals have been excellent. We have enjoyed the peaceful tranquil setting with a spa - pool - used every day. Our arrival we were greeted by Alan who welcomed us with a cold drink sat by the roaring fire before we checked in and shown to a Room 35 providing pristine accommodation. Alan and the reception team clearly have a gift of making that initial welcome a genuine and meaningful one. At breakfast the staff were Linda @ Ilias - delightful members of the stunning breakfast room setting and worthy of credit for their attention to customer service during breakfast meals. On using two of the three restaurants for our evening dining we returned to the Keepers Lodge for our evening meal where Ben went above and beyond in his professional service and friendly dialogue in this recently completed addition to the hotel environment. It is beautifully furnished & located perfectly overlooking the marvellous landscape of the golf course and wider vista. As we approach our last evening stay here I would have no doubt in recommending Matfen Hall to my friends and family - and to return ourselves in the future. I am told there are to be further developments with a planned new spa - pool leisure complex which if on the same standard as recent investments have provided can only be an added credit to this hotel and it’s current owners & their expert staff. The customer experience we have enjoyed has been worth our 170 mile journey from home to enjoy a relaxing stay at Matfen Hall. Thank you.
