We organised an important event for our family; a celebration of life for both our parents, following my Father’s funeral. We were so happy with our choice of venue. ||Everyone greatly appreciated the hospitality; especially the fabulous finger food buffet, which was fresh and delicious. They even organised tea/coffee and a selection of cakes for us. The bar staff were very good. ||The hotel helped us to arrange a SlideShow of a family photos onto screens and provided a Bluetooth speaker for our chosen music.||All of the staff involved were helpful and polite. ||Our immediate family enjoyed a lovely meal in the Carter & Fitch restaurant afterwards, which was amazing. The service was outstanding.||Two members of our family stayed overnight and said both the room and breakfast were excellent.

Booked the hotel over a week ahead of the stay for us to use the spa and had myself and partner an hours treatment each also booked. On turning up to use the spa we were told they hadn’t in fact booked us in and were unable to have any treatments at all.
The management were informed when walking through reception and the only positive about it was the gentleman behind the reception bringing us a bucket of ice when asked along with a drinks voucher for two drinks for myself and partner. Which when we got to Carter and Fitch were given two drinks and had to pay for the other two when it clearly stated 2 free drinks each for two people.
So no not a good experience at all… I’m not someone who normally complains but this was and experience of hospitality at its worst. And I for one will not be looking to book the hotel again that’s for sure.

I am incredibly disappointed with my recent stay at your hotel and feel compelled to share my experience. I understand that the hospitality industry has faced challenges, but so have customers, and the experience I had was simply unacceptable. I TRIED to give this feed back directly to management or via email. Unfortunately your gatekeeper receptionist refused to give me an email address or even hear my complaint.
From the moment I arrived, issues kept piling up. There was no heating, forcing me to sleep in my hoodie and jeans just to stay warm. The TV was broken, and I had to manually adjust the antenna just to get a partial picture. To make matters worse, the advertised breakfast buffet was non-existent—instead, one overwhelmed staff member was left to take orders, serve, clear tables, and handle everything alone. She tried her best, but it was an impossible task, and as a result, my order was wrong. Even worse, what I could eat tasted old and stale, leading to stomach issues for hours.
The lack of basic amenities continued—there was no mobile reception in the main dining hall, making it difficult to stay connected. My king-size bed turned out to be two singles pushed together, causing me to wake up multiple times to avoid falling into the gap.
The only saving grace was the friendly receptionist, who made me feel welcome, and the fact that my late checkout request was granted without extra charge. I truly appreciated that, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to outweigh the many disappointments.
It is incredibly frustrating to spend hard-earned money on a weekend getaway in England, only to be met with subpar service, lack of basic comforts, and a generally unpleasant experience. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make improvements, as I would not recommend this hotel in its current state

First business stay at this hotel and I’ll certainly be back.

Although the rooms are a little dated, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had obviously very recently been refurbished. The shower was excellent, as were the towels.

I really enjoyed my 2 evening meals in Carter & Finch, from their excellent menu which was a huge step from the usual chain hotel type.

Breakfast was all buffet with a great choice of both hot and cold offerings.

All in all, I’d thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Such a lovely spa hotel, rooms have everything needed away from home. The room was spacious and the mini fridge was ideal for drinks, milk etc.
We were at a wedding party so didn't have a meal, however our friends who did all enjoyed their food.
Theres a lovely industrial feel pub with a good selection of drinks, staff were really nice and friendly including the lady from the spa, and the gym instructor who helped us to find our room.
Metro centre, Durham, Newcastle are all approx a 20 minute drive from the hotel.
Definitely recommend this hotel.

The room was a good size. However, a noise outside, like a generator or fan, disturbed our sleep. We complained to the staff and were offered another room for the second night, but moving everything would have been a hassle, so we put up with it. We went to the family New Year's Eve party night, which was disappointing - the food was okay but the DJ wasn't very interactive. Beware if you are there on a bank holiday and want to leave early - breakfast on New Year's Day wasn't served until 9am and the Leisure Centre was closed.

We stayed here this weekend as my mam was celebrating her 70th birthday in the Washington suite. And it was fantastic! The room was perfect, decorated to a lovely standard, staff incredible and the DJ and karaoke went down a storm. We also had a lovely sleep in a giant bed and an excellent breakfast. Really highly recommended, thank you to the staff for making the occasion one to remember.

Paid for a day pass to use the spa facilities (gym, pool, steam room, sauna) after accessing the driving range. Cannot fault the staff - they were all very friendly and helpful. However, unfortunately the cleanliness of the spa is really not up to scratch. Perhaps we came at bad time, but there was hair and muck all around the pool area and in the steam room. We don’t think the steam room was very “steamy” and the sauna wasn’t working! The decor both inside and out is very tired and dated. Overall, not a great experience and sadly wouldn’t recommend, particularly if you’re looking for luxury.
