A group of 19 from Sandwell Ramblers spent a week at Middleton Hall and we had an amazing time. Lots of areas to relax within the property and the two kitchens were a great asset for such a large group, plenty of fridge space too and the drinks fridges were well used !!!

There were a few niggles, internet was very hit and miss and a couple of bedrooms struggled to get heating working, weather wasn’t cold during our stay but going forward this would need to be rectified. Also a hanging space for wet coats / walking gear would be useful following a rainy walk.

None of the above spoilt our stay and we had the best week of fun and laughter with lots of amazing walks.

Thank you Middleton Hall

I stayed at The Hall with 19 family members celebrating my mum's 80th birthday.

The water went off entirely twice. Once just before our stay, it was fixed just as we were due to set off (much to our relief). And, again, halfway through our stay. The water remained off entirely until after noon, but by 3pm the water was reaching all the rooms and we were able to get hot showers, flush toilets, etc.

There was a broken window in one bedroom that was covered over with a black bin bag and a board. The board fell off during the night, hitting the little girl who was asleep in the bed (see photo). Luckily, she wasn't injured and her parents moved the bed away from the window.

The baths in both en-suites of the four-poster rooms had damaged enamel. In one, it had peeled away quite a lot and both had corrosion.

One of the ovens was plugged into an extension lead (is that even safe?) and the other had no markings on the knobs so we didn't use it.

Another bedroom had a huge hole in the skirting board which contributed to the general tiredness of the property.

The list goes on but, after 3 and a half weeks of complaining to Sykes Cottages, I was offered a "good will gesture" of £50. The Hall cost us £5,880 for the week so this good will gesture equated to less than 1% of the price we'd paid. Or, to put it another way, £2.50 each.

I asked them to escalate my complaint but was told I'd need to take it to the small claims court.

My recommendation would be to find another place to stay. This one is not worth the money.

You've been warned!

Exceptional, idyllic location. Very quiet, not overlooked and very well appointed. Everything we needed and more. Perfect for visiting the coastal areas. The Old BoatHouse in Amble is a must for fish lovers..better than the Potted Lobster in Bamburgh.. will definitely return

Couldnt of asked for a better place to stay in the area.

The grounds around the accommodation are absolutely stunning and kept looking nice, there is also a random ginger cat that befriended us and tried getting into our accom and car, but changed its mind when my dog made itself known ?

Absolute disaster of a stay. We had so many issues at the house we had to leave half way through our stay. The owners refused to answer our calls and said we should have taken out travel insurance- which nobody ever does on this type of weekend break and they knew fine well.

The lights and heating and water were off. We had children and babies so had no choice but to leave.
All we asked for was 1 night to return (we originally booked 3) when things were working and they wouldn’t let us come back but kept the £4,000 we spent on the stay.
Avoid like the plague, go to center parcs, go literally anywhere else.

The Boathouse is a beautiful high spec romantic hideaway within the grounds of Middleton Hall in Northumberland. Completely secluded with floor to ceiling glass framing the lake and wildlife. We were fortunate to see an otter during our stay in May 2019 and at the end we did not want to leave.
