An old pub/ hotel with modern sophisticated decor. Our bedroom (115) was large with table and easy chairs, the bathroom had a walk-in shower. We had paid for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. The food was excellent with good choices.
There are 7 rooms available for rent for dogs and owners. It was lovely seeing them being walked in the very large garden.

Ok, let's be real. This hotel is a little dated. It would benefit from complete redecoration. A little busy with no cohesive look or theme.|But....||It was spotlessly clean and the welcome we received from Suniel at the reception desk was sunny, warm and very friendly. |Throughout our short stay, nothing was too much trouble for him and he went out of his way to accommodate any need we had, maintaining his warmth each time.|We booked a bed, breakfast and evening meal package and the food was absolutely delicious. Very well presented and tasted spectacular. |Our room was pleasant and again very clean with stunning views of Dartmoor along with feeding lambs.||My wife and I will definitely return.||Suniel is pure gold who the owners need to make sure they retain, as he would be a huge reason for us returning in the future.

Excellent food, staff really friendly and helpful. Lovely room with a balcony. Plenty of free parking and great WiFi. Really can't fault it for what we paid. Can't wait to come again. Very dog friendly. Lovely and warm in all areas. Enjoyed the pool table.

If you are looking for a budget hotel then the Moorland will suit you fine. The staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. The rooms are a little dated but the setting is fabulous with Dartmoor on your doorstep and Plymouth not far away. The prices reflect the budget hotel industry and are very good. Food good, breakfast excellent 🙂

Location is great and whilst I have a few points to highlight good and bad about the overall stay it's to make you aware of what to expect however our expectations were low before arrival anyway due to it only being a 3 star hotel and other reviews online not just from Groupon but other sources too. For us it suited as was only a 2 night stay however probably wouldn't suite if you wanted a longer more comfort stay. |On arrival we were swiftly seen too and given our room key, we stayed in room 6 as travelling with a dog, staff expected us upon arrival and we weren't left waiting. Door lock and handle were a but tricky to use and could probably use replacing but once you get the hang of it there was a trick to it!|Room was well stocked with tea, coffee, sugar and long life milk.|View from room across dartmoor where we were greeted with deer, sheep and horses this was nice to look out onto watching the wildlife. ||A few downsides to mention on the room, kettle was yellow on outside and had seen better days. Toilet had not been cleaned and appeared as if toilet cleaner had been poured in but not physically cleaned, after 3 flushes the stains that were there flushed away so was clear it hadn't been cleaned otherwise those marks would not have been there in first place. Toilet roll holder was broken and had been placed in what I can only describe as a leaflet holder next to toilet, should have probably just removed it altogether!|Bathroom floor was sticky when walking in there either shoes you could hear the stickiness. Window was very dodgy, handle didn't close shut and when window was open was hard to shut again as got stuck on the side catches my partner had to use some force to close it.|Additionally the cleanliness was questioned as we found a chocolate counter on the floor which dog almost got hold off and could have been fatal if she had. We swept the room after to ensure nothing else of danger was around for her to get hold off.|Mirror in bathroom had a switch under so presume it should have had lights round the mirror for use but didn't work. Water is also not clear so bottled water was a must here for both dog and humans!|Bedding was clean and so were the towels so this was a plus, bed was not the most comfortable however for 1 or 2 nights was fine for us but would not have wanted to spend any longer.|Bring your own hairdryer! The ones supplied are small and don't really work. First one was full of dust and burnt out after a minute of use, was given a replacement which worked for all of 2 mins and something flew off inside and didn't work after that and was then told they had no other spares available. |Plus side is heating in room was very good and adjustable to your own liking and warmed up quickly for colder days/nights.|There was a fan supplied too however we didn't have the need to use this so can't provide feedback.|Fridge supplied in room was a nice touch however wasn't convinced it was fully working, would make some noises like a Fridge does and felt cold when first arrived but didn't seem to be cold when we went to use it for the dogs food which we ended up keeping in the bathroom with no heating on as usually remains cold enough for 8 hours till her next meal time! ||Light in main room had 2 bulbs out of 3 not working however remaining working bulb was bright enough for the room to be lit, don't look up though as they could certainly use a good clean up there! ||Last thing to mention on the room is walls are quite thin and our room appeared to have a pipe running behind a wall too so you can hear everything in other rooms and this pipe appeared to be related to probably water so if others were taking a shower or something this pipe would kick in and create some noise for a time being.|There was a function the first night of our arrival for an 80th birthday and could hear the music and guests from our room through till about 11pm. This function also meant we had to have a late dinner on arrival day as only 1 chef on site. ||We were asked to sit down for dinner at 7.30 and didn't eat till 8.45 food was also questionable this night due to I think the chef being overwhelmed. My partner had the Prawn and chorizo starter, chorizo didn't seem like real chorizo and assembled more bacon lardons however he said the overall taste and sauce it was served in was good. His main was the duck, unfortunately the chef mixed up the sauce for this dish and had put a sauce on the duck meant for salmon instead of the expected red wine sauce so my partner was disappointed, with the duck he could eat not covered in this sauce he said was cooked well, they offered to rectify however partner was put off at this point. I had the tikka curry for my main which was nice in flavour and cooked fine just could have used a bit more heat as was cold before I could finish it.|Pudding was lovely though I had choc brownie with ice cream and partner had ice cream which was definitely local Devon ice cream as tasted good.|Breakfast on our first morning was 50/50, again chef was having to feed a lot of guests including some from the event the previous night so seemed overwhelmed, was only given one of everything so was a small Breakfast. Bacon lovely and thick and fried eggs were cooked well.|Breakfast on 2nd morning was the highlight for us, was given 2 of everything and all beautifully cooked so seems if chef doesn't have as many guests to cater for he is able to be more attentive. Breakfast is all pre ordered the night before which I don't recall reading anywhere on Groupon or the hotels website which isn't always my preferred method as might change mind by morning but for 2 days was fine. Choice is very limited anyway!|Overall the price paid on Groupon was ok for 2 nights and could see it having been a better visit if the large event hadn't taken place on one night and as was for only 2 nights worked out fine for us

Treat yourself to the Moorland curry night|Better than any takeaway real authentic Indian /Nepalese food.|Made to order I had the lamb curry full of meat now like the 6 pcs in the takeaway.|Sunil is a brilliant host nothing is too much trouble. You can have the curry to whatever heat you want.||

I stayed at the moorland night before my wedding. They were extremely accommodating. We had hair make up photographer there in the morning. Then I had some family turn up before I left. I would highly recommend staying at the moorland and I can’t wait for my photos to arrive as we took some lovely one on site. Thank you for a great experience.

Made to feel very welcome for our one night dinner b&b stay. |Food very good. |Radiator not working in room so after dinner we were moved to another room, and with a view this time, which was lovely to see in the morning. |Our bathroom needed a good clean - including toilet but didn’t notice until getting ready for bed so didn’t want to say anything by that time. We decided not to shower. I’m sure the polite staff would have apologised profusely, but we were leaving straight after breakfast. |Hotel generally quite tired but great for a basic stop over.
