We had the best experience when we stayed at The Mount Pleasant hotel in Sidmouth. The staff were lovely and very welcoming couldn’t do enough for you, the food was amazing something special every night. The rooms were lovely and it was nice to wake up in the morning being in September a little bit chilly in the morning to have nice heated towel in the bathroom. Luckily it was nice and sunny so didn’t really need central heating but was nice to have warm towels.|We will definitely be back next year.

We had a truly outstanding experience staying three nights at the Mount Pleasant from 13th July. We stayed on a half-board basis in Room 5, which is as yet unrefurbished but still absolutely great, with plenty of space, a very comfortable bed and an airy and well-lit bathroom.|Breakfast was very traditional full English and perfectly cooked, delicious ingredients. Dinner, if anything, was even better, with a really well-balanced al a carte menu of three courses. The fish, particularly, was excellent.|The garden and location were both beautiful and very convenient and we especially enjoyed evening pre-dinner drinks on the terrace in front of the hotel.|Leaving the best to last, the service at the hotel was fantastic: the owner and his staff are extremely efficient and very friendly without being intrusive. We will definitely stay again and I can do nothing else but recommend this brilliant hotel wholeheartedly.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel, and it was just as lovely as before.|The hotel is in a superb location, quiet enough to be away from the hustle, bustle and noise of the main town and front, and yet only a few minutes walk and you are at the seafront. The added bonus is that it has good parking.|We stayed in a recently refurbished room (No 1), which was bright, clean and airy and overlooked the gardens. |Breakfast menu has a good choice and was cooked to order, piping hot and lovely with good quality ingredients. We didn't eat at the hotel during the evenings, but I gather the evening menus and food are excellent too.|All in all you cannot go wrong with a stay in this fabulous little gem of a place - it will always be our "go to" place to stay when we visit Sidmouth.

Such a brilliant hotel, it’s so clean and comfortable the room had a super king bed (room 1). The food was excellent too, the choice at breakfast time was extensive. It’s about an 8 minute walk to the sea front. We had a lovely holiday and will visit again.

Our second stay at this lovely little gem, the vibe is friendly and relaxed and every where is spotlessly clean. |We had our evening meal in the hotel and the food was very good always a choice for non meat eaters. I love the traditional feel of the restaurant, white linen table clothes and classic Kings cutlery.|Jonty and his team especially Cameron make guests feel really welcome and are so helpful.|The car parking can be a bit tight once the season gets going but we had no problems as our stay was first week in May.

This was our 2nd visit to this hotel and something of a disappointment. As before, the food was wonderful and the housekeeping standards immaculate. However we had booked the same room as previously only to find that the 2 issues Jonti had assured us would be dealt with hadn't been. The absence of Cameron, who was no longer a member of staff meant that there was no cohesion in the hotel and his loss was greatly felt not only by myself and my husband. Unlike previously Jonti was nowhere to be seen when we signed out and left, meaning that unlike before, we did not book again. Upon reflection we agreed this was a good thing. Running a hotel requires attention to detail plus you to be in situ to give support and guidance to your staff. We were left feeling our custom was not appreciated.

A large white traditional English seaside hotel set in its own grounds, a sea view from the front rooms, yes ... 'You CAN see the sea. It's over there, between the land and the sky' and a tall gentleman waiting for your arrival at reception, who whilst welcoming you asked whether we would like an evening meal ... we resisted the temptation to ask whether chef had any waldorfs !!! ||There the similarities (for those aged over 50) with a favourite 1970s sitcom ended, although you can park in the hotel grounds which is massive plus point given parking costs in the area. The gentleman on reception was instead polite, welcoming and helpful.||Our room was at the front of the property (well worth having) and created a light relaxing experience. Yes it does not have the modern crisp lines and freshness of modern hotels, but this in itself can a be a good thing. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean, well equipped and perfectly suitable. The use of an old school radiator might mean it gets overly warm at times but we realised this could be adjusted. ||It is a short pleasant walk into Sidmouth from the hotel, where you are welcomed by a range of quirky individual shops (although beware, most close at 4pm). It is then possible to walk down to the promenade and enjoy the sea at close quarters. For a seaside location it does seem woefully short of places to eat of an evening, but there are many plentiful cafes to enjoy during the day.||Back at the hotel you have access to a relaxing lounge area if you wish to sit in more comfort and the patio outside would be delightful on warmer days. ||Breakfast in the morning was served in the restaurant area which has some magical little alcoves adding to the charm. Your breakfast order is taken and you are served a refreshing starter, tea/coffee, and wonderfully tasty cooked breakfast with the good old traditional toast in a toast rack to remind you that you are indeed holidaying.||The hotel offered a lovely relaxing feel and although we were only there a single night we would have been happy to spend more there. It is a fine example that sometimes doing the simple things well, can go a long way to making a stay pleasant and memorable.||The is no view of Sydney Opera House, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon or Herds of wildebeest swinging majestically... but there is a delightful welcoming stay waiting for you in a traditional seaside hotel.

I stayed with my husband for 4 nights and could not fault this hotel on anything. The service, efficiency and helpfulness of the staff was second to none. The bedroom fitted with all we could have required and the maid service excellent and the bed most comfortable. As for the food! This is the kind of food one expects at a 5* hotel! Everything was served promtly, piping hot ,the plates included where applicable. The choice was extensive and absolutely delicious on every occasion (we stayed Half Board). Additionally, it is located in a wonderful position, being off the main thoroughfare but within 500 metres to the sea front with a lovely terrace overlooking an extremely pretty and well laid out garden with parking for all. Needless to say, we have already booked our next stay - in June 2024 - and were lucky to be able to do so! Hardly surprisingly.
