My partner booked us a room at the Museum Hotel, Oxford for a Saturday night and to say we were both disappointed would be an understatement. The room was a little grotty with dirty carpets and just a general 'uncared for' feeling and the bathroom, while having a nice enough shower could have done with a deep clean. The grouting was dirty and old. There was also no spare toilet roll which for one night isn't too much of an issue, but you might feel inclined to limit your bathroom activity if you were staying there for any longer.||The air conditioning in the room didn't work correctly and insisted on pushing out warm air when we were trying to cool the room (it was very warm in the room despite being the middle of October).||The advertised snacks "available 24 hours a day" failed to materialise at all. There was a packet of 'crab sticks' in the bottom of the fridge at the back, but as vegetarians, that wasn't an option of us and I think we might have been tempting fate if we were to try them, especially given the lack of supplies in the room mentioned above. ||When my partner booked the room in March 2024, the room was advertised with a complimentary, continental breakfast. We now understand that the hotel has changed hands since our booking was made and the offering has also changed as a result. The breakfast has now been removed from all listings and is not offered, but we feel that at the price paid, the new owners/managers could have at least made us aware of the change in the booking details and refunded a portion of the fee to reflect the reduction in service we were to receive.||It would also have been useful to know that the room we booked was almost directly above a very busy taxi company. This meant there was a queue of people waiting for a taxi directly below our window for pretty much the entire night. There was a card in the room to ask us to be tolerant of the design choice of retaining period features over incorporating sound-proofing. But, again, advanced information would have made for a better, more informed booking choice. We certainly would have appreciated that information after being woken up on an almost hourly basis by Oxford's revellers throughout the night.||Finally, the original information my partner received when booking was that the access codes would be provided within 72 hours of arrival. When we had received nothing less than 24 hours before arrival, we phoned the hotel to enquire when we'd receive the codes and were promptly sent a checking in form for ANOTHER GUEST. This revealed their full name and contact information as well as the price they paid for their room. This was extremely worrying in terms of personal data privacy.||All in all, I would suggest you look elsewhere for your stay in Oxford. This option is on the cheaper side for a reason and it really wasn't that cheap. It is in a convenient location (taxi company aside) but that doesn't make up for the dreadful customer service (pre-stay) and the generally disappointing standard of the room and offered services.

I read a number of review and i dont agree with the low scores, if you want an all singing and dancing hotel, with receptionist, restaurants and bars then this is not the hotel for you. The room was a small double, but totally ample for our requirements, it was very clean and a very comfortable bed. Seeing as we were in the centre of Oxford there was no noise and we had a great nights sleep. Yes, the entrance is not glamourous, but i would not hesitate to sat there again. Thank You!

Not a good start, as no code sent before I arrived, no staff on premises and phone not answered (explanation: new management just taken over). Good points: clean and comfortable albeit small bedroom. Same for the shower room. Central location. Poor points: scruffy entrance, no staff. Expensive for what it offers.

I am writing to express my deep frustration over the unprecedented experience I had tonight. I booked the hotel through Key Travel on September 30th for a two-night stay. Upon my arrival, I found the hotel extremely difficult to locate, with no clear signage or reception. I attempted to call the hotel 10 times, but none of my calls were answered.

I sought assistance from a nearby pub and a taxi service, who directed me to a nondescript black door with a barely visible sign indicating the hotel’s name. I was informed that access required a code and that there was no reception available. I spent over an hour wandering around in the middle of the night, repeatedly trying to reach someone at the hotel, to no avail. I would have never imagined that a 4-star hotel would offer such a poor experience.

After exhausting all efforts, I had no choice but to roam around the City of Oxford late at night, searching for an alternative place to stay. I was turned away by four hotels before finally securing a room at a nearby establishment. I am now writing this note 1 am in the morning when I should have been resting for tomorrow’s activities, especially after a long day of travel from the North.

This has been an incredibly distressing and exhausting ordeal. I sincerely hope no one else has to endure such an experience.

If you choose to stay here be sure to be proactive in pestering management for your check-in information. I arrived for my check-in only to find a non-descript locked door in an alley, and a an unattended "24-hour" phoneline. Their website states that they'll send you check-in details on the morning of your arrival, but I received no such information. I called them, tried emailing, waited an hour, and ultimately decided the company must have folded or I'd been scammed. In fairness they did email me back later in the day, but only after I'd secured lodging somewhere else.

This was needlessly stressful and a waste of time for all parties involved. I'm waiting to hear back from the staff to see if they'll willingly refund my deposit since they violated the guaranteed check-in time of their stated policy before I escalate this with my bank. Beware.

Central location was much appreciated and not easy in Oxford. Vey unprocessing entrance easy to miss down a strange dingy side street and we had to ask lots of people. Key pad worked ok. Stairs upto rooms would be difficult for more frail. Shame to have no. human reception, we had a small double which was very small but find enough for just going to bed- but maybe the smallest room we’ve ever stayed in, bed comfortable though and good shower with large towels. Limited floor space to place suitcase. Room WiFi good but no mobile reception. Obviously money spent refurbishing on old historical building. £200:night without breakfast is sadly is what you need to pay in central|Oxford. Much better value in one of the many B&B’s shirt bus ride in Headington. In fairness it’s not a hotel but s very expensive AurBnb! Look fine for one night stay if you don’t Need to ge in the room much.

Very cool and unique hotel. Room was very clean and modern. Loved the sky lights in the room. Bathrooms were very nice and clean, great showers. The only issue we had was the A/C was blowing hot air even if it was turned off. We were only there for a night so just opened the skylights and it was fine.

I'm pretty confident this hotel is closed! The hotel never sent us codes to get in. We emailed, called, and left messages via their website and they never responded. Additionally, after the first round of emails, we emailed again and they came back as undelivered. I'm pretty sure it's just a big scam. Please don't book here.
