Mystique Barn - Bristol

Stayed prior to a flight from Bristol airport. The barn is a 10 minute drive away. It was extremely clean and very comfortable and had been excellently converted Very warm with underfloor heating and spacious bathroom. Communication with owners was excellent and much appreciated in an ideal location.

A lovel hidden gem!
An excellent, clean and comfortable place to stay with parking.
I was very impressed with its quiet location in the countryside just outside Bristol. I arrived late in the evening as for some reason the hotels this side of town were fully booked that day. The owner was at the barn within 10minutes to let me in and explain things. For a speedy response, it is best to book direct with the owner. He was very friendly and informative and went an extra mile to make sure that my stay was comfortable. I would recommend it.

We had a great stay. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and modern and our little dog especially loved the secure field to play in. We arrived late but had good communication with the hosts so check in was easy. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

I stayed at Mystique Barn for two nights. For brevity I'll stick to a pros and cons list (TL,DR at the end).

PROs:
Well appointed room and bathroom.
Well kept outdoor space, perfect for dog owners.
Clean.
Beautiful rural location.
Legendary shower.

Cons:
Noisy: Despite being out in the sticks, the room is noisy due to the extremely loud fridge and the Industrial grade extractor fan in the bathroom. Also right under a flight path. You can turn the fridge and extractor fan off, but these solutions present their own problems, and the owner made it clear he expected the extractor to be left on. - YMMV.

Cold.
Owner told me there is heating, but they only turn it on if it drops below a certain temperature and the guests have no control over it. There are no blankets or any means of warming the room if you get cold. I was so cold the second night I had to sit in bed with my coat on.

Absent:
Owners are absent and do not live nearby. I turned up at 17:30. Website said check in after 15:00. I was advised they had tried to contact me as they were out and couldn't wait around for me due to their other business commitments, even though I was the only person checking in that day.

I had to wait until after 19:00 - over an hour and a half after arriving - to be let in. After a 12 hour work day, I was less than impressed. When they did let me in, I was repeatedly blamed for the delay as I didn't call them before arriving.

On my penultimate day, I was pestered for an exact departure time so they could send the cleaners in.

Facilities:
Tea/coffee is minimal - I picked some milk etc up from the local shop, so I could have coffee and eat some cereal but had to risk it spoiling as I couldn't have the fridge on overnight.

Power.
The power was off for over three hours one day from ~15:00 to just after 18:00.

Visitors.
The rooms are well kept and cleaned, but are obviously mothballed and undisturbed for long periods between guests. When I pulled the covers around me in bed, a spider the size of a draft horse escaped from the covers, ran up the pillow and tried to escape behind the headboard. I slayed the beast, but it did not exactly help me sleep. It was not the only one I encountered during my stay.

TL:DR: 2 stars because although the rooms and location are nice, the overall experience was definitely not. Would not voluntarily stay here again.

Host was very welcoming. Room very well appointed, superb bathroom. Small fridge, microwave, tea & coffee making facilities, table & chairs and crockery for two. Outdoor patio furniture, TV. Lovely views. Great safe grassed area for the dog, secure parking. Would definitely use again.

Myself and my partner had an amazing stay at Mystique barn together with our dog who loved all the open space to roam free and totally secure.

And very close to bristol airport also extremely inportmative owners and helpful. 5 star rating

Couldn't discourage booking this place enough.|We booked and immediately got hounded to call Larry. On the call some vague story about not being able to take card payments and the request to either pay cash or do a bank transfer. It felt odd but we were willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. He told us check in would be 'around 3.30ish' the next day but to once again, call and confirm.|The next day we head on our long road journey towards Bristol and are getting whatsapp messages from Larry once again. We politely let him know that we are stuck in traffic and what our ETA is. Larry lets us know he will be gone from 3pm and unsure when he is back.|Worried about check in we ask him how we check in then, will he leave a key or hos does it work? To that he answers 'to call him and we'll discuss'||At that point we felt highly uncomfortable and didn't want to stay anymore. Never in our last 2 years of constant travel have we had such an odd experience prior to even showing up somewhere and so many calls and messages. Having to drive 6 hours on that day and 14 hours the next day the last thing we wanted to do was 1) worry about answering calls and messages to a property owner and 2) not knowing when check in time is and that if we arrive we can check in. Most places have a check in from 15.00 and certainly after 16.00 so it is crazy to ask a guest to call and discuss rather than give a firm answer.||Larry did not want to accommodate a free cancellation and magically his machine did work to charge a card and so that's what he did.

Absolutely fabulous setup and you couldn't wish for better hosts!

The location is great as you have the best of both worlds with Chew Magna and Dundry a couple miles away in either direction if you love village life and you are only 5 miles away from Bristol City Centre.
Top quality pristine accommodation. We booked both bungalows, which had fabulous large walk-in wet rooms.
Our dogs had the time of their lives playing around in the large secure paddock.
Ample parking and really secure, all set within electric gates.
Highly recommend
