The hotel had a cosy welcoming feel about it with the log fire and Christmas decorations. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to engage in conversation with us. We were there for the Boxing day brunch which was great value for money and stayed over for the night. The cooked breakfast was also very good and hearty. The bedroom was warm and clean.Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Had a beautiful relaxing stay, just what we needed. Stayed in room 6. Beautiful classic room. Furniture matched the era of the hotel. Nice cosy bar area and super friendly staff both in bar and the beautiful restaurant. Staff really go out their way to be helpful. Food was lovely and plentiful. Leisure facilities could do with a litte bit of love but beautifully warm pool and an amazing jacuzzi and steam room. Breakfast was beautiful and lovely ladies taking orders and serving. One of the ladies even kept my breakfast warm after I had to pop outside to take a call. Can’t fault anything and look forward to returning.

On the whole it was a great experience. We had afternoon tea, evening meal, stayed the night, used the pool and golf course.
Afternoon tea - great
Evening meal - great
Breakfast - ok
Room - once we had found it through the rabbit warren of corridors, was clean but a little tired. Bed was a bit weird. Couple of marks on the carpet.
Pool - clean around the pool. Communal changing room was very small and dated. Floor was a bit grimy.
Golf course - great
Would stay again.

We chose this hotel as my older wife is quite pernickety and seems to be getting more so .|Other hotels in the area have disappointed her and led to me getting chronic earache . The rooms are slightly frayed around the edges, not unlike my partner but the welcome was warm as were the boudoirs.|Small gym but no need to moan folks it’s got what you need to get a pump on.|Nice pool though running around after the boss meant I didn’t get time to savour it .|The hall is very historic and worth researching the past .|The welcome biscuits were nice but the absence of shower caps meant I got a minor dressing down ! |Possibly a bit pricey for what it was but maybe this wouldn’t be an issue if taking a younger partner .|Breakfast staff very busy but very friendly although my sausage was a bit tough.|Seasonal salutations !

The driveway is diabolical, the potholes are literally like craters. Be careful in a lowered car. The hotel looks grand but is an hit and miss. Some hallways are very dated. Our room was nice, warm, clean but stains on the carpet. The sliding mirrored wardrobe doors took awhile to open and the iron was caked in some brown substance. The room was quiet as we were facing the Golf course. It was however through the aforementioned 'rabbit warren' it took awhile to find with the bags and clothes on hangers. The reception area was manned for breakfast buffet. Nice choice of cooked and continental but the quality of the cooked food was poor. The hard cold bacon, the water filled scrambled egg, the cold veggie sausages that arrived around a minute after ordering. Having to ask for a hot drink from the young lady on the buffet, because the 2 lads were setting up the tables at the back of the restaurant and discussing their working hours. Unaware of guests needs. No personality in the room or from the lads. The room is cold, dingy and lacking in background music. People sat in silence or worse whispering over breakfast is very disturbing. Then we get to the hair and eggshell in the scrambled egg. Whilst my partner was still heaving we left. We will not be having dinner here! The highlight was the staff member who came in shouting "well done lads" she continued talking so loudly that we had to raise our voices as did the table in the corner. Not the Service or food quality expected at a 4 star hotel. Disappointing for the price. We were here on a wedding package.

The hotel is tired and needs attention. It's very disjointed as a hotel especially for breakfast. The rooms are old fashioned and have far too much furniture in them. I suggest getting rid of half of it and get the paint brush out and fix the toilet seat and flush and the broken tiles. This place could be lovely but it needs a fresh set of eyes to.point out the issue.

First time visitor on business trip. Staff very friendly from reception to the staff serving breakfast. General decor looked very dated with fading and discoloured paintwork, however the day prior to my departure the was a painter getting to work in the building I was in. Only had the full English breakfast which wasn't self service, didn't have any evening meals there.

Location is great and the building is pretty. |Rooms are ok, but the patchy paintwork makes them look tired. (Gone for a Greek theme on the paintwork and it doesn’t quite work). |The bar has a better value food menu but only 4 tables- otherwise you need to eat in the restaurant which was minimum 2 courses £35 plus drinks. I only needed a snack. The bear pub 2 miles away did great value food. |The gym needs to be bigger and have windows/ fresh air. The equipment is fine, but it’s the size of a bedroom and is a sweat box. However I would sooner have this than no gym. The pool is pretty, but the leisure staff are disinterested, so I’m not sure how often facilities are cleaned. This didn’t really bother me, but is a fair reflection. |Arrived and left in the dark so cannot comment on the grounds, I’m sure they are nice. |On arrival the car park has loads of potholes and road cones,- not the best first impression. |The staff are friendly and nice. |This hotel has oodles of potential but the impression is that they have run out of money to maintain it and it is getting by on the cheap. This is fine if that is what you expect, but I feel that management believe they are better than they are based on the prices they charge. |There is nothing major wrong with the hotel, it just comes up a little short in many areas unnecessarily. So much potential….
