From the start of our trip the hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. If there was any issue they sorted it with no problems or worries.||The dinner experience and feeling of the place was so good that we ended up eating every evening that we was there. Such was the quality of the service. Staff were also very nice to talk to. And happy to say that it doesn't feel to corporate which I think is a positive as it feels welcoming. ||And they also brought out a mini cake for my partners birthday which was a really nice touch. Drinking water was provided with the meal. And every meal was excellent in quality an portion sizes were enough. We had Sunday dinner and a 3 course and also tried afternoon tea and they are all worth trying.||We stayed in the spa and the swimming pool and both I would recommend that guests do. Again staff were super helpful and I felt welcome in the pool and the lifeguards helped direct me to the disabled lane where you can swim by yourself.||The rooms were cleaned well and had a shower and bath. And new biscuits an shampoo shower gel were provided daily.||Breakfast there was a big buffet set out with some hot , scrambled eggs ,sausage ,beans, mushrooms. Toast fruits jam there was a lot to choose from and again I felt that the value provided in breakfast was nice.||Bar service. Like the staff in other areas they were more than helpful and always brought our drink to us and helped with other requests we had to.||So overall I'd like to say that we both loved our stay at the the new bath hotel and spa and I will definitely be staying again.||Thank you very much for making us feel welcome.

I really wish I could give this hotel more stars. Upon arrival it looks fine from the outside, if a little run down. We checked in and were asked if we wanted to book in for dinner, which we didn't. It's a good job really as we were then informed the alcohol licence for the hotel had expired so they were unable to serve alcohol, which they claimed was a surprise them. Walking through to the room, the hallways are quite run down and need some work. The paintwork was scuffed everywhere and the carpet quite thin and worn. In the bedroom the bed was nice enough and it looked like the bathroom had been recently renovated. The windows were completely condensated and the glass looked awful in them, so you couldn't see out, which appeared to be the case with all the windows. On our second day I came down with food poisoning, I'm not saying this was due to the hotel but I had only eaten the breakfast there all that day and nothing else. This resulted in me not being able to attend my spa booking the following morning. My husband went down to cancel and they were very understanding and said they would process a refund, however, no refund came, so I followed this up to then be told I couldn't have a refund, despite being previously told I could. It seems communication in the hotel is not good at all. The location is really good and you're straight out into Matlock Bath, and if you're visiting for the illuminations, they are literally at the bottom of the road to the hotel so the location is great for that.

Having read some of the reviews we lowered our expectations. The hotel, although in need of updating was perfectly fine for our needs. ||The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The outdoor pool, geo-thermal fed, has no chemicals and is absolutely wonderful. ||We had 55 minute massages and Charlene, our masseuse, was amazing - highly recommend. The Spa area is small with a relaxation area, a jacuzzi, steam and spa rooms. Again a little tired, but we were informed it is due for renovation soon.||We had our evening meal at the hotel and it was very tasty. ||All in all, a really lovely one night stay.

Location great but the hotel is no more than 2 star. Rooms accessed via an ally around the back. Zero security.
Told morning of stay about alcohol licence. Assuming so we couldn't cancel.
Very disappointed.
Very few guests. Saw no one eating there.
Town lively and full of nice pubs with good food.
Would not stay in this hotel ever again.

Was very pleased with the room other than a couple of stains on the carpet. I'd imagine that they have tried to clean them but the stains won't come out. It is an older building but I liked the features of that. Tv only had a handful on channels. Comfy bed and pillows. Nice complimentary tea coffee and water in the room.

It is difficult to be complimentary about this allegedly 4* hotel. ||Re Fire precautions:| Information about the closest fire exit should have been on the bedroom door. It was not.| In the event of a fire any alternative to the main staircase was not immediately evident.| Therefore the only exit would appear to have been down a total of 4 flights of stairs using 5 different changes of direction. There were places on this route where the emergency exit signs would probably not have been visible.| |Re the bedroom/bathroom:| Washbasin was cracked| Grouting round bath discoloured| No shelf on which to put toileteries| Niagra type shower only with no shower cap provided for ladies| Shower controls unmarked. Potentially the wrong combination could cause a full immediate shower with water at maximum temperature. Dangerous for children, elderly etc.||Re the breakfast:| Fruit consisted largely of great chunks of apple and a few other fruits crudely chopped| All hot food rapidly became cold as the containers had no under heating||Re reception:| Having booked with the hotel’s online system 6 days in advance we were staggered to find no immediate record of our booking on arrival early in the evening. Then the receptionist pointed out that the booking had been made for the actual time of the booking and, that as we had not turned up, full payment had already been taken. At the time of booking there had been problems completing the form which had presumably defaulted to that day. Clearly I had made an error which I should have noticed. However, even if I had noticed the error that night, the hotel would have retained the payment as it requires to be notified of any cancellation at least two days in advance. Perhaps the hotel should have realised that a booking made from over 100 miles away in the middle of the evening was unlikely to be fulfilled that night? | In the circumstances we were forced to pay for a second night or look elsewhere. As I am 81 I was not inclined to find other accommodation at that time of day and without access to my laptop.| A subsequent email addressed to the Manager was ignored until I sent a reminder. An unsympathetic reply from the desk manager (presumably receptionist?) emphasised that its no refunds policy applied “even in cases of genuine error”.| The hotel website gives no email addresses for the Manager or to make comments or complaints and it seems impossible to contact the hotel owners, which appears to be the Deventure Group, by email.

We loved our stay here and felt it was great value for money. The lido was incredible to visit and swim in... such a bonus and unique feature for the hotel. The location was ideal. We had a lovely big room too. Yes, the hotel and rooms are a bit tired looking and in need of modernisation. But if the hotel were to revamp and up the quality of rooms and service, it would probably become a pricey stay.

Beautiful building, staff friendly and welcoming. Spa staff and facilities fabulous. ||||The bedroom really let this place down. The shower had no power whatsoever. The carpet was stained in multiple places. Curtain hanging down. No bulb in one of the lamps and had bare wires exposed! Visited reception the same evening to complain and was told nothing can be done as no other rooms available. This was booked as a treat for my partner and I spent the weekend embarrassed at what I'd booked!||||The dining rooms are lovely and the evening meal was beautiful.||||Would highly recommend using the lido!
