I stayed there as a stopover for a repeat Harley Street doctor's visit, because I didn't think I could get any sleep at a budget hotel near Victoria... put it this way, if Ben from Bald and Bankrupt were to suddenly decide to make documentaries about his travels in Britain instead of (formerly) the former Soviet Union (before he was finally banned in Russia), this hotel would have been featured in it. It was certainly a very interesting and quite a memorable experience indeed. Would recommend if you fancy somewhere budget but also a bit out of the ordinary as well. Definitely within reasonable walking distance to town, certainly in August. Definitely no noisy drunken nightlife nearby.

I have never stayed in such a dirty, seedy hotel. The whole place smells like stale food and all the fixtures, furnishings, wallpaper, and facilities are dirty and old. The wallpaper in my room was yellow and ripped. The walls are paper thin so I could hear the person in the room next to me snoring and watching very loud TV. There was no one on reception when I arrived and the car park was closed. When I called, they gave me the entry number so I could park. I stayed for a number of nights for work, and during that time, the "housekeeping" simply remade my bed and haphazardly wiped my cutlery. There were kick marks on the bathroom door as if someone has tried breaking into the en suite bathroom in the past. There were spiders and insects in my room.
On the plus side, the room was nice and warm and my bathroom was clean enough. The water pressure and temperature was decent.
The surrounding area is also a little dodgy and I did not feel comfortable walking around there in the middle of the day, let alone in the dark.
I don't consider myself a snob, but I feel that a lot of the reviews below don't really show the true colours of this hotel.

Excellent little hotel to stay in . Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great price perfect for me when my lorry goes in for overnight inspection. Be back there again soon . Its undergoing refurbishment can see the difference since my last visit.

The Newark is a budget hotel about a mile from Peterborough city centre, so it may not be ideal for tourists (it's popular with forwarders, construction workers and such). But you can easily reach it by bus (lines 5, 5a) from the centre.|The hotel was still being refurbished when I arrived, and my en-suite double was certainly modern and clean. The bathroom facilities I found to be excellent, except there was no rag for the towels to dry, and the bathroom door didn't have a cylinder (yet?). The shower was big (no curtain or door though), and the water pressure adequate (not a given in budget hotels). The bed was comfy, and there was enough storage for my clothes and stuff. A 32" flat-screen Tv was provided, with a remote. Free Wifi was available, too. I really wish they would have provided a toilet brush though!|Early check-in went smoothly (direct email contact with the hotel was excellent), don't be put off by the gloomy-looking reception area. There's a very basically furnished garden to the back where you can hang out.|The room service was a bit spotty, but I really didn't need it every day anyway. 😉

Met up with my Bro for a family get together - a little disappointing start as the twin room had no en suite which wasn’t clear when booking via Expedia . The room was clean and comfortable and the shared shower room was also clean - just have to time it right when you need to use it. The location is ok - fairly|Quiet area about 15-20mins walk from town centre and there is a car park to the rear. Didn’t try the bar or evening menu - walked into town for a curry but the following morning enjoyed a very hearty full English breakfast - very nicely cooked to order.

I was booked in to the hotel with a colleague, and on arrival we both thought the hotel was closed, this was due to the poor lighting and was told to park in the car park at the rear of the building. The car park area smelt strongly of cannabis's and once inside the reception area was very dull, on arriving at my room it was very dusty with a fan in the room full of dust and a smell.||The toilet and shower was shared and the light is on a timer and it only last about 2 minutes.||||I have traveled around the UK and this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, it need closing for a deep clean and updating and as the other hotels in the area were full, so I had to stay for a few days. The main photos make it look nice, but its not..

I have stayed at the Newark twice now for small work trips. I had a room without a bathroom but very close to the communal shower rooms. ||||The hotel was very well located being a 15 to 20 minute walk to the centre. it's on a main road which connects easily to the motorway system and was very easy to find. There is ample free parking at the hotel and on nearby roads. ||||The room was very clean and cosy and a good size. My room wasn't ensuite but there were two very clean shower rooms just outside. I never had a problem for showering. ||||There is a bar and a dining room at the hotel but I didn't eat there. Breakfast was £5 but was nothing special. ||||Staff were friendly and efficient. Check in and check out were likewise efficient. ||||If I have to stay over in Peterborough again I will try to stay here. I recommend the hotel.

well as i had already booked last year for this years stay, i arrived at the newark on the saturday before truck fest, i was welcomed with a lovely smile by fran, went to my usual room on ground floor as i am registured disabled, my stay was up to parr. i know this hotel is going through changes at mo with been redecorated and building work o/side but its still worth a stay there, i class this hotel as my second home as i have been coming to stay here since 2011. my full english breakfasts was absolutely delishious & tastey, and i know if you fancy an evening meal & it costs extra £10 its well worth it. the car park is ideal for visitors & is secure.
