There was only one negative review on Trip Advisor when I was looking to book this accomodation. I am so glad I didn't heed their warning.||Newton House is a magnificent old Georgian House situated just on the outskirts of Sturminster Newton. It is an old country house that was refurbished by the current owners from derelict about 20yrs ago. It hasn't been much updated since then, but in my opinion, that just adds to the character of the place.||Margie and Charles Fraser were so welcoming and warmly invited us to share in their home for the weekend. The rooms were comfortable - none of them are en-suite, but when this place was refurbished, it wasn't a social requirement to expect all accomodation to be fitted with en-suites and showers. If you are offended by bone china ornaments and chintzy drapes then you might be better looking elsewhere - if you are man enough to treat this kind of decoration as entirely appropriate for the style and age of house, then this place will be right up your street. ||Breakfast was served around a huge wooden table in the family kitchen with the pet dogs snoring wrapped around your ankles. Margie had cooked for us using her huge range cooker and also served toast with the most magnificent thick rind orange marmalade - my favourite.||This place is good old fashioned traditional middle England. If you've never had the chance to stay in a really big country house then Newton House is just for you.||We have visited Sturminster Newton once a year for the last four years. This was far and away the very best accomodation we have found in the area. We are already booked in to go back again next year.||Thanks Margie and Charles - looking forward to coming back already

This has been my second stay at this lovely B&B. The Fraser family will make you very welcome and the full English is well worth getting up for. The garden is also well worth a walk through, Charles tends to this glorious area and will be only to happy to show you round. Whilst Margi and Tory do an excellent job in the kitchen where they make chutneys from their many fruit trees, they also have free range chickens that produce your eggs for breakfast. Certainly recommend this accommodation.

We stayed at this B&B on the last night of our cycling holiday. On arrival we were greeted by Margie who is a warm and friendly lady, and immediately offered a cup of tea, which we drank in the lovely garden. The house is amazing - very old and full of character - not immaculate by any means, but a real lived-in family home, complete with friendly little dog and cat. The house is very higgledy-piggledy and all the rooms had loads of character. It is true that as a B&B it doesn't offer all the hi-tech and mod cons many places would, but that was part of its charm. The house is well located for Stur Newton, with a footpath directly opposite. Best of all was the breakfast - the fry-up was delicious and the five of us ordered endless pieces of toast which were served up with good humour by Margie and her lovely husband Charles. They could not have been better hosts and we could not have been more pleased with our choice - so much better than some sterile hotel.

Was very disappointed with this accommodation.No tv, electric shower, coffee facilities, internet in room (really missed having a kettle! and would have liked either tv or internet). Room dusty, carpet in bathroom stained under toilet (very off-putting), huge spiders always scuttling about the place. It is a very large Georgian house and Mr and Mrs Fraser are lovely and friendly but I would not stay here again through choice.Breakfast also not great. Did not enjoy having to sit on chair covered in cat hair (if you are not a fan of cats or dogs this place is definitely not for you),

What a wonderful place to get away from city life for the weekend as my husband and i decided to do. A beautiful home and lovely hospitality From Mrs Fraser. Newton House is perfectly located for exploring Dorset or for doing very little. I would urge anyone that wants to visit Thomas Hardy country to stay there and to choose their cooked breakfast (yummy!)

Having booked a double room for a wedding nearby and paid a deposit our following story should be a warning for others!!||We booked this B&B at least a month prior to turning up and imagine how annoyed we were, when on arrival at 4.30pm on the day booked we were told - sorry but I have double booked your room!!! We were then shown a grotty looking twin room|which wasnt ensuite and nothing like we had expected to stay in. It was very grim. What made us really cross is the overbooking was because another couple had booked two nights arriving on the friday, so the landlady knew about the problem the day before and didnt even have the courtesy to ring us and let us know! | |What is even worse then that, is, I phoned on the morning we were travelling down and she still didnt tell us about her error!! My comment would be dont bother staying here because you might not have a room to stay in!! And if you do it dosnt look like it did on the website! ( www.newtonhousedosert.co.uk)|

Meine Freundin und ich haben im Newton House 4 Nächte verbracht. Es ist ein sehr altes Haus mit viel Charakter, in welchem die Inhaberfamilie Margie, Charles und deren Tochter Victoria wohnen. Zudem sind hier noch zwei Hunde, eine Katze und mehrere Hennen zu Hause. ||||Die Zimmer sind sehr liebevoll mit alten Möbeln eingerichtet. Die Räumlichkeiten sind mit viel Liebe zum Detail dekoriert. In meinem Zimmer waren an der Wand alte Sichtbalken zu sehen. Morgens wird man vom Zwitschern der Vögel geweckt, die zum Teil direkt am Haus brüten. ||||Wir haben uns bei der Familie sehr wohl gefühlt und sind von Anfang an gut aufgenommen worden. Wir haben zur Begrüßung einen Tee serviert bekommen und sind von Margie auf diese Art und Weise willkommen geheißen worden. Margie und Chares waren sehr zuvorkommend und haben uns beim Frühstück jeden Wunsch erfüllt. Für uns wurde sogar frisches irisches Brot gebacken und wir hatten jeden Tag frischen Obstsalat mit sehr gutem regionalen Joghurt zum Frühstück und haben jeden Tag ein frisch gekochtes Ei von den eigenen Hennen bekommen. Das Frühstück wird gemeinsam mit der Familie eingenommen, an einem großen Holztisch im Esszimmer. ||||Es gibt in den Zimmern kein Internet, kein TV. Was uns jedoch überhaupt nicht gestört hat, im Gegenteil.||Es gibt keine Dusche in den Badezimmern, sondern eine Badewanne in der dann im Sitzen geduscht werden kann. ||||||In unmittelbarer Nähe, fußläufig, befindet sich die alte Mühle von Sturminster Newton, hier kann man eine Guided Tour durch die Mühle vor Ort buchen. Dies ist sehr zu empfehlen! Die Mühle ist eines der schönsten Sehenswürdigkeiten in Sturminster Newton.
