This is not the review we wanted to write but sadly it wasn't the experience we were hoping for or the experience the Nut Plat Website promises. It didn't start off well. Despite booking directly with Duncan and paying in two installments for which we received receipts, we weren't expected. Indeed it took us some time to convince Duncan that we followed the correct procedure and had arrived at the agreed time and date.We acknowledge mistakes can happen but it is recovery that matters. We are still waiting for a meaningful apology. We outlined the issues we experienced and in his last email were told that those were only little niggles. No effort was made to tape up a broken window (in November), give us salt and other basics or let alone the promised luxuries and extras suggested on his website. Our complaint about the terrible smell of the urine outflow in the ensuite compost toilet was met with "just p... in the woods". We had a building site outside the cabin where Duncan was in the process of installing a septic tank (an acknowledgement that the current toilet wasn't working). The work had been started because he wasn't expecting us and there was a sense that our stay was rather an inconvenience.
The Finlay's Cabin is a beautiful structure in a beautiful location, both the bath and the hot tub and the wood burner were gorgeous. The whole cabin needs a good clean, it's broken radio replacing and Duncan needs to change his victim blaming attitude. He kept telling us about his 5 star reviews. We contacted him directly because we wanted to give him a chance to make amends and address the problems that we had experienced. We were therefore rather shocked when he boasted in his last email that the guests that came after us had no complaints despite the fact that he still hadn't fixed the window or changed the toilet or got rid of the building site. If you choose to stay with Duncan we suggest ringing a few days before so he knows you are coming and check if he has got round to replacing the disgusting toilet arrangement.
Well and take the promises on his website and the 5 star reviews with a pinch of salt the - only salt you are going to get.

Fantastic little getaway cabin!!! The hot tubs were fantastic and the hosts were super accommodating! Would recommend to anyone looking for a cabin in the country experience!

We had the most beautiful weekend in the Bomford cabin. A romantic idyll for couples to relax and reconnect with nature.

(One thing to note is there is no fridge or plug sockets, but that didn't detract from our stay at all)

Instantantly relaxing for the moment we arrived. This retreat really is a retreat. Set in the heart of the Kent countryside with a well equipped comfortable sleeping hut and kitchen/shower hut with everything you need. A log fire, hot tub and nothing but quite, peace and stunning landscape (and plenty of night lift, mostly owls) . An amazing weekend with some fantastic memories to take home. Thank you to a great host.

Absolutely lovely stay, all the facilities were great and the host Duncan. Stunning place to escape and enjoy the nature, even weather wouldn't bother us as while was raining we enjoyed yourself in gorgeous hot tub. Lovely surroundings for walks. Definitely come back there, highly recommend!!!!

Finlay’s cabin was perfect - hidden away in woodland and with wood fire heated hot tub but only an hours drive from London. Duncan also sent a thorough email beforehand including local walks and places to eat which was really helpful. I couldn’t recommend it any more!

Myself and my partner recently stayed in Finlay’s cabin we both absolutely love the place and didn’t want to leave.
The bath and hot tub wore amazing!
We both had no phone signal while their at first we was unsure about that but actually it was a totally blessing we wore able to really relax enjoy each others company and the beautiful surroundings.
We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend staying here.

Just back from our second trip to Nut Plat Retreat and it was epic. We stayed in the Bomford again, feels like home. It's peaceful, calm and this time we had sheep around us, which was very lovely. We'll see you next month Duncan and time and time again - it's our happy place x
