This place is great and deserves its fantastic ratings. The only issues I have are things I wouldn't expect in a 5* hotel, little things like... You book as a couple and they only have one robe in the room and then having the expectation that guests to take the robes from the room for the spa.

That said, if it was in the power of the staff to fix they fixed it, with a smile and good cheer.

We had a lovely stay. I can't believe this place is so close to London. It's a perfect spa get away location.

We had a spa day and stayed the night.||||Positives: ||The building of the hotel is absolutely beautiful. ||The room was spacious and clean. ||A huge variety of tea and coffee in the room. On arrival, the reception team were friendly and called over to the spa to let us know our room was ready early. ||Staff in the spa were lovely. Made us feel welcome instantly. We were given robes and flip flops. ||Massage by Tanya was brilliant and I felt relaxed afterwards. ||Afternoon tea in the spa was pleasant. ||Breakfast was delicious- lots of choice and friendly atmosphere. The dining space is stunning and the positioning of the tables by the window was a nice touch. It was lovely to look at the view. ||Extensive wine list in the restaurant. ||||Things that would make it 5*||||- Our room was absolutely freezing even with the air con on the highest heat setting. ||||- Dinner in the Cloisters Restaurant was very hit and miss. I ordered a medium rare steak. It came out very well done (I couldn’t cut it) I politely had to send it back and the second one arrived. It tasted like charcoal and not much else and the chips were raw. By the time my meal had arrived back, my husband had finished and I had to eat by myself. ||I felt as though we were treated differently because we had a spa package- almost like we didn’t matter in comparison to other outside guests. We were given a set menu but the small print said ‘£45 each towards your meal’ once I asked for the a la cart menu (which we had seen online), we received a more attentive service. The dinner let the experience down. ||||Overall an enjoyable day/night stay.

I came here today for a birthday afternoon tea.

The hotel was easy to find, and there was plenty of parking available.

There was a great selection of sandwiches, scones and sweet treats. And the waiters provided good, attentive service.

When its dark outside by 4pm and not light again until after 8am, with the wind howling and the rain lashing down – there is something very special about being inside a warm, solidly built, building, which has a marvellous cloister – which is where the restaurant is located. ||When we visited, the combination of the storm outside and the tranquillity made for a wonderful atmosphere. The food also played its part – with an excellent Chef’s tasting menu (although we were, apparently a few minutes late in placing the order). We opted for five courses, and they all were all excellent. The beef was particularly flavoursome with a wonderful jus. ||The service started with a small bump, but quicky recovered by the marvellous and charming Abdul who looked after us exceptionally well. ||It was a lovely dinner, especially as it was a special occasion. ||We also stayed the night, this time in a feature room with a lovely large sley bed, super chairs, a wonderfully lit Christmas tree and a complimentary mini-bar. The bathroom is fine, but probably time for a modernisation, the bath is starting to show its age and there isn’t enough space to put out all the necessities one brings (soaps, toothbrush, contact lens solutions) , especially if there are two of you!||However, the room was lovely – we enjoyed the food and slept soundly, having just enough time to enjoy their speciality cooked breakfast in the morning. ||We have visited fairly regularly for the last twenty five years, usually at this time, and this was one of our best experiences, albeit, a little pricey.

Stayed in Tolkien suite Dec1. 34th Wedding Anniversary. Dinner bed and breakfast.||The public areas of the hotel were maintained to a high standard, as was our suite. ||Tolkien suite was lovely. The view was perfect. Lovely touch of a large christmas tree as you enter. ||Fantastic dinner. All staff were friendly.||3 stars only as to get to the spa is a real trek through 2 car parks and a delivery area to the detached spa building next door to hotel. It had the feel of a separate plot. We were watching guests in white dressing gowns wandering around the cars in one of the car parks on our arrival for our stay. Looked very odd! We didnt bother using the spa because of this. Shame as the stay was extremely expensive.

Absolutely wonderful day at the Spa. I booked this champagne spa day fairly last minute as a birthday treat. I booked over the phone as I had a couple of questions, and it was lovely to chat with the Hand Picked Hotels team and get it all organised quickly and easily. All of the staff were so friendly and welcoming and made it a lovely, relaxing day. I had the full body salt scrub and massage, and Becky was wonderful, I felt so rejuvenated and relaxed afterwards. The relaxation room and Amber lounge are lovely areas to relax, and I made full use of the pool, sauna, and jacuzzi as well. The lunch was delicious, and I had wonderful service from Audrey, again, very friendly and professional. The little extra touches of having your name in your allocated locker and on your lunch table are a really nice touch and make it all a bit special. I had such a lovely day thanks to all your wonderful spa staff and then wandered over to the main hotel for a drink in the bar there to take in the views and finish off the day nicely. Again, very welcoming and excellent service. I haven't been for many years but will certainly be back again soon. Thank you for making my birthday special!

Perfect in every way. We booked this hotel for a small event using their private dining room and stayed overnight in one of the deluxe rooms.. It could not have been better. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were treated with such courtesy and professionalism by all the staff at reception, in the hotel and the waiting staff. The hotel itself is an amazing gothic building in a beautiful setting, the room was really stunning, with every comfort you would need; beautiful furnishings and fittings, huge bed and sofas, enormous bathrooms with luxury toiletries. A fully stocked mini bar including a separate cocktail trolley with complementary cocktails and a generous supply of nibbles. Tea and coffee machine with lots of choices. The dinner in the evening was arranged perfectly by Peter who clearly took pride in his work and loved his job. Nothing was too much trouble and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the grand surroundings. After a wonderful nights sleep, the breakfast was just as impressive, with healthy options and home made extras, the avocado on toast with hotel-made chili oil was fabulous, but also, and especially, the wonderful waitress and waiting staff. We couldn't have asked for a better stay and will definitely return and possibly hold another event here.

Absolutely fabulous! What an incredible place with incredible people. The best service, and hospitality in England. Jamie at the front desk to the wonderful restaurant staff who stayed late and made us a five star dinner, beautiful and fresh sea bass with an amazing steak 🥩, breakfast this morning didn't disappoint either. Overall, an impeccable place with top people, love the history and the wine. Well maintained. Our room was stunning with beautiful views. Can't wait to come back. Thank you all for making our stay the best. Even the toiletries were super. Xoox
