Stayed here for 1 night after my daughters wedding (23.5.25) We had 3 rooms booked for me and my wife my son and friends. Spacious rooms which were comfortable and very clean. Staff were superb with a warm welcome and very helpful. Breakfast the next morning was lovely. A gem of a find and would definitely stay here again

great find, we had a large comfortable room, friendly welcome and a lovely breakfast with good gluten free choice (gluten free cornflakes, gluten free bread, yoghurt and cooked breakfast of egg, bacon and mushrooms). Was a lovely stay, only downside was no hand towels or hairdryer to wash my hair.

This is an old style guest house which means it comes with personality and quirks and the personal touch in terms of service. On the downside my tv in my room was comparatively tiny to modern standards. On the plus side my room was very spacious. On the downside my en suite was across the hallway! On the plus side I had a wonderful sleep, breakfast was lovely and the location perfect. Be open minded and enjoy an interesting stay

The guesthouse is situated on a lovely area. Had ensuite room but ensuite was very small. Bedroom had sloping ceiling with a beam where I banged my head 3 times within 10 minutes so had to move the bedside cabinets forward. Breakfast was very good and well served by the friendly member of staff.

Didn't even get to stay there. Booked ensuite room well in advance but had a phone call a few days before to say they were over booked and they could only offer a room without ensuite facilities. What is the point of booking something when it it actually doen't seem to be booked, Shocking. needless to say we went elsewhere

Good location but not the most welcoming approach|House is set back off a side street to the main road so no significant traffic noise at night. Access to canal towpath/locks and viaduct is close by and several restaurants/pubs and takeaway a short walk away. Only 5mins walk from Marple station (15/20mins to Marple Bridge station) but note there's no traffic lights or pedestrian crossing so may have to wait a while to cross the main road- suggest allow extra time for this. |As a pedestrian the first things you see entering the drive are signs telling you not to block the drive and a notice of CCTV- accept these are necessary but could be done alongside a more welcoming sign to make guests feel less like intruders.||Room & facilities|A good size, decor not the most modern but appropriate to the house and consistent with photos on their website, aside from kettle etc which were balanced on what looked like a garden patio table. Unfortunately the room wasn't the most practical to use- there was no dressing table or stool/chair to sit at with a mirror so had to just stand in front of the bathroom mirror to do hair/makeup. TV was tiny for the size of the room- sitting up in bed you couldn't see the screen very well and the sofa was underneath the TV so not comfortable to watch it from there either. Carpet is not very practical in bathrooms and seemed to have been fitted to a former suite as there were gaps around the sink and toilet bases. No hand towels, so had to use a bath sheet even for drying hands/hair. One of each per person would have made much more sense.|Basement rooms had no room names/numbers or markings on them- just a series of fire doors that all looked the same- didn't suggest pride in the rooms or make guests feel welcome. Door to basement from main house lobby wasn't labelled in any way either...and coming up from the basement it opens straight out into the path of anyone walking between the kitchen and breakfast room which didn't feel very safe.||Breakfast didn't seem well organised. Asked on check in to choose a time for the first morning but not asked about times for subsequent days. Chose continental on check in but this hadn't been passed on either.|Largest group size at breakfast during the stay was 2 people but breakfast tables set for 6,6, 4 and 2. Would be better having more smaller tables as standard so you could join them easily for a larger group but allow pairs to have their own table and reduce wait time. |Continental breakfast is essentially lots of different boxes of cereal, option of toast and possibly a yogurt if you get there early enough. Orange juice is the only cold drink option and no pastry/cake/bread rolls i.e. a "something extra" you wouldn't normally have at home.||Wanted to use a local independent business as normally this means a more personal service, feeling welcomed and owners showing real pride in their premises. I personally didn't feel I got those extra touches here, so would not go back.

Booked a couple of nights. Just me and my wife and two small dogs. We had a triple bedroom, one large and two normal size single beds. A lovely large and light room with big windows and an en suite. Very clean and well looked after and beds v comfy.||The guest house is like a big country Manor House with a large hall, big staircases and lots of wood and panelling. Must take a lot of upkeep and we thought it looked great.||Love.y breakfast room and our full English was cooked to perfection. One of the best we have had (on both days too!) on our travels. Our host chopped two sausages up, one for each dog, so they were delighted. From other reviews, I think our host was Spencer and he was chatty and informative about the house and the locality, and very hospitable.||Within a five minute walk you have the Memorial Prk and also the many locks of Marple and a canal walk. Great location.||Plenty of on site parking and the road is a quiet one. We had a garden and hills view so lovely and quiet.||I have read some of the less positive reviews about Oakfield Lodge. If you want a Premier Inn hotel then book one. If you want an old style place like a small country hotel, that is homely and full of character, and you are not looking to find faults, this is a great place to stay. We hope to make a return visit.

Great place for a stop off. Quirky Interior and rooms were clean and tidy. Front of house lady and gent who served breakfast were great and friendly but there were another couple who worked there and the gent on 3 occasions never replied once to me when I said hello.
Lots of gastro pubs in the village.
The midland and the royal Scot were great.
Nearby train station, fish and chip shop and Indian.
Overall would certainly recommend and revisit
