Another enjoyable stay at this lovely hotel. Small and intimate, with amazing attention to quality and service. The staff are excellent and the food is exceptional. The ambiance of the place is unique in a historic courtyard setting, with each room with it own garden area. We will go again.

Another perfect stay at Downton Lodge, it never disappoints, beautiful, spotlessly clean, stylish rooms in a wonderful setting, 5 star dining at its very best and the loveliest staff - perfect balance, polite and welcoming, discreet and professional. Special mention for Charlie and Winter, genuine, so friendly and welcoming, couldn’t do enough for us, loved our stay once again and and will definitely be back.

The most beautiful, tranquil setting. A lovely welcome and then we sat in the sunshine in the knot garden with coffee and home made cookies. Surrounded by the scent of lavender and roses and the only sounds bees buzzing and birds singing was the perfect start to our stay. A very well furnished and spacious room with the comfiest bed, a superb dinner and excellent breakfast made this a magical stay. Thoroughly recommend!

Tucked away, cosy inn but with a luxurious feel. The rooms are beautiful (although found the bed a bit firm). The absolute stand out is the restaurant experience, incredible food and the staff are absolutely brilliant, attentive, knowledgeable but also very friendly. The bar area is lovely for drinks and the courtyard a great sun trap, even at the end of September. We enjoyed some brilliant walks through the countryside right from the door, fuelled by the very good breakfast.

We found this little gem by chance online when looking for an impromptu stay over in the area on our way to the ferry heading home from the Goodwood Revival. This utterly charming property is a converted old mill with less than 10 rooms in the original granary buildings. Arriving after a long drive the manager Thomas greeted us warmly and we were soon enjoying a well deserved drink in the courtyard garden! Showered and changed in our lovely room we had a pre dinner drink in the bar followed by a magnificent meal in the wonderful dining room. A brief but very enjoyable stay definitely to be repeated!

What a wonderful place to stay! We stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and access is via a narrow lane with passing places. The rooms are located around the small pretty garden. There are tables and chairs for you to sit and enjoy your surroundings. Our room was lovely. Spacious, double bed, fluffy white towels, quality dressing gown, tea and coffee making facilities, very clean, everything you would need for a relaxing stay. The staff are all efficient, friendly and helpful. If there is anything you need, just ask them. Breakfast was excellent and included cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast, and cooked food. The evening dinner is fresh and delicious and if you have any dietary requirements the chef will ensure that is taken care of. We had two 'special' menu's printed for us which included our dietary requirements. The dining room is beautiful as is the sitting area/bar. There are lots of places in the area to visit and enjoy. I am sure we will return to this beautiful 'restaurant with rooms'. A big thank you to all the lovely staff. Ann + Derek xx

Excellent friendly service in a beautiful location. We have been for meals and afternoon tea before, but this was the first time we stayed overnight and the room was lovely. Fantastic food as usual (dinner and breakfast). Overall superb and great value for money for this quality of service.

Old Downton Lodge is perfect for a quiet weekend in the heart of England with delicious food, perfect service and comfortable beds. We can't recommend it highly enough. We went with a school friend from 60 years ago and had a memorable weekend. Seriously, enjoy a stay as soon as you can.
