The Inn looks stunning at night from the outside, the reception area is inviting and from there you can see the restaurant/bar area. So far so good. The meal was cooked to perfection and the waiters were polite and friendly.|After a long day travelling we wanted a good nights sleep. Unfortunately, the room was a disappointment, very small, definitely could do with an update, but putting that aside it was unclean, marks on the bedspread and walls, there was a smell from the carpet that even our dog didn’t like. The bathroom….. I just don’t know what to say. |The breakfast wasn’t anything special, bacon and eggs over cooked, didn’t feel clean. |I appreciate you get what you pay for but this wasn’t worth what we paid. |2 stars are for the restaurant.

Well run hotel a bit our of town. The food looked excellent, bar was well run and the rooms perfectly acceptable.

The buffet breakfast was a bit hit and miss. A lot of waiting about while they replenished the items on offer. The toast machine was poor. We needed to put bread through twice to actually be toasted anything like.

All in all a good hotel for the money though.

Super location, excellent service, everyone was so friendly and helpful.|It's a few years since visiting this hotel and we were not disappointed. It has been updated in the areas we used. |The room was good, bathroom needed a little tlc. The price (which is unbelievable), we paid was amazing for how good everything was. Clean, basic rooms (do you need anything more). |We ate in the restaurant in the evening and again everyone was so warm and welcoming. The food was very good. The lamb and beef looked amazing (we didn't have that choice, but my goodness it looked fantastic).|Breakfast was all you needed. Cereals, full English, toast, jams, more than enough to start the day.|I would highly recommend.

Arrived at lunch time and told our rooms were ready so we didn’t have to wait until 3 pm which is normal check in time . Went to the restaurant and had lunch which was lovely and would satisfy even the biggest appetites I’m sure. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful even though they were extremely busy and the had a funeral wake there as well as their lunchtime patrons. |Our rooms were bijou but perfectly adequate for one night as had everything you needed including an iron and ironing board also hairdryers were available at reception. The shower room while small was functional and a plentiful supply of hot water . |We had dinner in the restaurant as we had travelled up from Wales and didn’t want to drive anywhere else to eat. We weren’t disappointed the menu was varied and all home cooked . Staff again friendly and helpful so it was enjoyed by all. We retired to bed after a few drinks and the bed was so comfortable and warm . The breakfast which is also included in the price of the room was excellent, buffet style and plenty for everyone. All in all a great stop over at a very reasonable price. Their biggest asset is their staff who were all extremely pleasent and helpful with no requests being too much trouble for them . Would definitely recommend The Old Stone Trough to anyone if you’re looking for a fair priced stay with great food and comfy beds

Don’t normally have food at my accommodation but it was bursting at the seams with people and in the middle of nowhere so I thought I would give it a go.
Food was decent value and the standard of the food was excellent.
Decent pint also. Rooms are clean and tidy but more than a bit dated. However excellent value for money for the room so that left me some room for pudding.

Motorhome stopover, £15 per night, flat tarmac, all services except showers and electric hookup. Price includes buffet breakfast which includes cereal, fruit juice, toast& preserves, and full English. Unlimited tea and coffee.Stayed many times en-route to North Yorkshire, only an hour's drive to Harrogate. Thoroughly recommend, very friendly staff, excellent food, pleasant bar. Dog friendly as well.

I had booked two rooms at The Old Stone Trough, On our previous visit we had had a very smart rooms. This time I went for the cheapest option and the rooms weren't the greatest but at the price we paid we weren't going to complain.|We had a comfortable night, we enjoyed a very good meal when we were joined by friends and an excellent breakfast the next day.|It is not the smartest place to stay but it is cheap and very welcoming. I would definitely stay there again.

I was recommended this hotel by a friend as I was attending a music event at a nearby venue. Outside the place looked amazing as did the internal public areas. I was then to see my room. First I was surprised to see the door had a letterbox that was thankfully sealed closed on the other side. The room itself had old curtains and mismatched furniture, it was in extremely poor condition and the ceiling clearly needed replacing. The en suite was a disgrace, a window that could not be opened, dead insects on the ledge and someone else’s hair in the shower cubicle. There was a crisp packet behind the bedside table too. The kettle had a mind of its own, the switch wasn’t functioning correctly so through the night it kept turning itself on and off. I couldn’t connect to the Wi-Fi as it didn’t cover my room. ||About 0800 if not earlier I was woken by drilling from the room next door. Apparently they were changing a door - why on earth do it so early? £65 a night ||The only saving grace was breakfast but had to find someone to order my tea which was served in a mug. No offer of a refill.
