Excellent catering and service from this gem of a guesthouse. |The meals were all of a high standard, with good choice on the menus. Rooms are comfortable, many with sea views. The location is excellent, close to amenities in a friendly village on the edge of the Lake District. It is a very good base for a walking holiday.

Subject: Feedback on Our Recent Stay at Parkside Guest House||We recently spent a week at Parkside Guest House on a Whist holiday. This was our first experience of this kind of break, and we found the other participants to be wonderful. The group consisted of around 40 people, and we were warmly welcomed and treated with kindness by everyone.||The food was generally very good and served in generous portions. However, it seems the regular chef took a couple of days off, during which we were served incinerated roast potatoes and overcooked meat. Thankfully, the bar prices were reasonable, which was appreciated.||Now for the downside.||I had specifically requested, booked, and received confirmation for an accessible room. Upon arrival, however, we were shown to a room on the second floor that was not accessible for my needs. I use a wheeled trike, but the room was too small to accommodate it. Additionally, fitting an oxygen generator, 17 cylinders, and a CPAP machine in the space left little room to move between the bed and the wall.||The bathroom was also unsuitable. It was cramped and not designed to be wheelchair accessible. The shower required stepping over a 200mm threshold, with a narrow sliding door that I could not fit through. The only wall-mounted rail available was a heated towel rail – a concerning choice, as it presents a burn risk to anyone needing to steady themselves.||When I spoke to the manager, I expected him to acknowledge a mistake and offer a solution, such as moving us to the accessible room I had originally booked. Instead, he informed me that the accessible room had been given to another guest, a disabled lady and her husband. His response to my concerns was simply, β€œWell, it’s accessible by lift.”||Having travelled over 200 miles to reach the hotel, and with it being late in the evening in a remote location, I felt I had little choice but to stay. I seriously considered leaving the next day, but the warm welcome from the other guests persuaded us to remain. However, I would not have made the journey if I had known the hotel would not honour my booking. Unfortunately, the situation made our stay far less comfortable than it should have been.

Parkside Themed Holidays are full of fun in lively, friendly, like-minded company with excellent daytime and evening activities. Lots of laughter and friendship has made the week memorable. We are looked after well by the staff in good accommodation and beautiful surroundings. Everything is done to ensure our comfort. The photography, shown each evening by our Bird Watching Hosts, is always stunning as is their wide countryside knowledge . A wonderful week.

Visited for a week on a whist holiday.

The accommodation was comfortable & basic. The food was nice, hot & uncomplicated. Both were at a level in line with the inexpensive cost of the holiday.

The whist holiday was excellently run.

The guesthouse is in a great area for walking & sightseeing. The local village has 2 pubs & various cafes.

The guesthouse has lots of parking & nice grounds.

The local transport network was troublesome. Trains were regularly cancelled & the M6 was a nightmare. I understand there are no taxis in Arnside.

Recommended for an inexpensive quiet holiday.

This is not a b&b type guest house. They run organised holidays of various length of days - bridge, Scottish dancing, whist, walking, board games, country dancing etc. Always full board. Optional morning walks on all holidays. Fabulous area of easy walking in AONB. Staff amazing, friendly and helpful. Own bowling green.
