The hotel staff were absolutely amazing, very accommodating. The room was perfect, bed was very comfy and the decor was beautiful. Quiet area and there are buses and trains available to take you into London. Amazing value for money and we will definitely be back.

Very interesting old pub with beams and low ceilings. Room comfortable and modernly decorated. Strangely most rooms have nowhere to hang any clothes. Staff friendly and helpful, and they serve a great pint of Guinness!

Found this on another site and did not realise the mistake I had made in booking this hotel. As we were nearing the premises, imagine my horror when I realised it was the Mary Rose Hotel that I stayed at ten years ago in what resembled a dossers rooming house. Well as we arrived to try and find staff we were stuck in the err courtyard watching preparations for a wedding in the dining room/bar which meant there was no staff in reception. A member of staff did appear and we said who we were and she said 'oh we don't have a booking as there is the wedding. She kindly went to locate the manager who eventually arrived and said yes there was a booking! We asked to see the room prior to confirming we would stay. We were a bit desperate as I had checked other venues and it seemed that we were stuck in having to agree to stay. Room seemed ok, we changed and managed to get a taxi, the manager did book that. Upon our return it was obvious that there were several problems. Toilet seat not secure. Large mirror balanced against the wall. Bathroom light with exposed wiring! Mattress very old but clean. Dirty mattress stored in corridor! Access, egress door fitted with electronic lock but impossible to lock due to poor repair and state of the door, would not close! Tea and coffee facilities was a struggle to obtain till one chap did come up trumps!

We needed a place to stay for the night in Orpington and my wife booked this as it sounded as if it was in the centre of town. The photos of rooms (on Bookings.com) looked great. Maybe some rooms are that good. Ours certainly wasn't. ||||When we arrived the staff were very friendly and welcoming and gave us a drink on the house, which was a great start. Things went downhill after that. Our room was in the old part of the building. It was very basic, just big enough for a double bed, with vinyl flooring and a small rug by the bed. Two uncomfortable upright chairs and a small table for the tea, coffee and kettle. The waste bin was a huge kitchen swingbin with a lid that didn't fit. Maybe smaller waste bins get stolen? There was a large TV on the wall but no remote control so we didn't get to see if it worked. Just one bright light in the room, no bedside light.||||The en suite bathroom looked promising. Clearly money has been spend on good modern fittings including a large shower. Only one small towel was provided though the room had been booked for two. We asked at the bar for another towel which was supplied. We didn't fancy staying in the hotel for the evening, though the bar looked quite pleasant, so headed to the town centre. When we got back the bar and reception was closed so we used the side entrance, but although it has an electronic lock, the lock was broken. Not great for security. Back in the room we noticed the tiny amount of toilet roll that had been left and no spare roll. Reception was closed so no chance of getting any more. We could only hope there would be enough for the morning. Sleep quality was OK as the bed was comfortable and although the walls are paper thin there wasn't much noise to disturb us.||||In the morning we found that although there was a supply of coffee, tea, sugar and milk with two mugs there were no spoons. Had to use a toothbrush handle to stir the drinks. The shower was warm and powerful but turned out to have a blocked drain. The tray soon overflowed and water flooded onto the floor and into the bedroom as well. As we'd paid in full on arrival checkout wasn't necessary but we told the staff cleaning the rooms about the issues we'd had, particularly the blocked drain which was unnacceptable.||||The hotel staff are lovely but organisation and service is chaotic. We didn't expect much for the price paid and if the basics had been attended to (unblocked drains, sufficient towels, enough toilet roll, teaspoons provided) we would have given it three stars.||||The broken outside door should be repaired as a matter of urgency. The hotel is not secure as it is.

Rooms are okay size...building is 400 years old original Oak beams...door ways tiny mind your head...facilities pool table rooms...hall for hire with bar. The rooms windows aren't double glazed so you will hear alot of noise from the street. Cost of the room price wise is okay.

A mix of modern facilities with classic
historical features, charming rooms which are well equipped and very cosy. The owner is very helpful and welcoming any questions or requests were promptly answered. There is an atmosphere on the inside that makes it feel like a proper home away from home I will definitely stay here again!
