A lovely character cottage situated within a 10-minute walk of Bakewell, which we found to be a delightful place (if you have a dog, the friendliest pub by far was the Red Lion - great food too!). The cottage was very clean & tidy and the little 'extra' touches were very much appreciated. There was loads of storage space, lots of fresh-smelling towels and the bed was super-comfy. The kitchen was very well-equipped with everything you could need & the little courtyard garden was just enough for us & our little dog. Nick & Julie were extremely accommodating & helpful. Thank you both for a lovely stay 🙂

The ideal base for a weekend in the Peaks! A pleasant stroll from Bakewell village and short drive to the Monsal Trail. 3 lovely double bedrooms, you can see the sheep while showering and perfect lounge, kitchen and patio area which is private. Just off the main road it was so quiet and peaceful. It was very clean and tidy and great value for money. We took a dog and he didn't want to leave. Either did we! Nick was really helpful, responding to any queries swiftly and a wonderful dinner guest, as we invited him round to join us. Thanks again Nick, we'll be back! xxx

We enjoyed a fantastic 7 night stay at Peak Cottage. This period cottage is spacious and very comfortable (especialy the bed which is amazingly comfy! ).. theres everthing you need, the kitchen is well equiped lacking nothing. Theres a few things that need a bit of an update, which the owners are in the process of doing, but to be honest this adds to the charm.
Julie and Nick are wonderful hosts who are so freindly and are always on hand if you need any advice or have any questions, you relly get the feeling that your break is paramount to them.
Bakewell is a beautiful town, much bigger than you may think. theres plenty of pubs and cafes ranging in choice and prices. The Red Lion is central and does good pub food, the staff and locals are really freindly and boy do they love dogs!
theres some great walks, the river was our Berts fave its lovely, also at the back of the cottage there some land which is good for a doggy burn off.
It takes about 10 mins to walk into town down a bit of a hill, but if you go through the church yard its easier and nicer.
There no parking at the cottage, you can drive up to it to unload though, but it was easy to find a space a 5 min walk up the lane
which is quiet and perfectly safe.
All in all this has been a brilliant holiday and we cant wait to return!
Thanks again Julie and Nick,
see you soon,
Elaine, Steve and Bert the border terrorist.. xxx

We had a lovely ten day stay at the cottage. New owners, Nick and Julie, worked hard to fix any problems or questions we had and they were friendly, helpful and bent over backwards to make our holiday enjoyable. The whole place was clean and tidy, with excellent treats on arrival, hand soap, washing up liquid, towels etc. There are some things which need fixing or updating but the new owners seem to be 'on it' already with big plans to improve many things (they had only taken over 12 days earlier). #Any negative review before 1 August 2022 should be disregarded as this was before Nick and Julie's time# Also, brilliant location; we hardly used the car and just walked into Bakewell .

We stayed at Peak Cottage for three nights, it is a lovely little cottage, well appointed, and the rooms are a good size, they were very pet friendly and even had some treats for the dog. We had a great time, just be aware that you need to follow the instructions to find it and the availability of parking nearby can be a bit hit and miss

We arrived to a spotless and warm cottage, we were welcomed by soft music playing and a bottle of wine and nibbles in the sitting room. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage had all the essentials for a self-catered holiday. Lovely views over the countryside, we will return. Many thanks for a super long weekend.

Fresh back from a super 8 night stay at Peak Cottage. It's a warm, inviting, character property situated perfectly on the edge of the beautiful Peak District town of Bakewell. Definitely on our list as one to re-visit in the future, special thanks to the host for being so accommodating and helpful.

We were excited about our break. My partner is a Nurse and worked through the pandemic. We spent a long time seeking the right place for us/our needs. The owner communicated well with us before arrival. We didn't mind when she asked to delay our arrival time to allow for the property to be thoroughly cleaned (to the covid standards specified in the ad.) This gave us confidence/reassurance. (When this was raised later the owner then changed the check in time on the ad from that which was previously stated.) The last thing we wanted was for there to be any risk to my partner/ the vulnerable people she supports. We were happy to have a steady 200+ mile journey safe in the thought that we would arrive at a clean, cosy cottage, could unpack and settle in. Pulling up outside, we were tired but very excited. The outside of the property was as expected. Time to unload, park up, unpack and chill. We were confused and shocked to find the property in a state of disarray. Unmade beds in all rooms with dirty bed linen greeted us, as did used towels hanging in the bedrooms and bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom were unclean. The carpets hadn't been hoovered. We immediately contacted the owner who said she was not sure what had happened. After conversations back and forth, she said we should go out for a couple of hours and get something to eat/drink and she would come and clean. She offered £25 initially (latterly £40.) But we had just driven a long way and didn't want to go out. At 3.30 pm we weren't hungry! We weren't happy to leave our belongings with someone we didn't know so would've had to collect the car, re load it, and then drive/wander aimlessly for 2 hours. Not how we intended to start our holiday. She said she could clean the place in an hour and a half as she was quick. There is no way a three bedroom house could be deep cleaned in this time, to the covid standards specified. We advised this was unacceptable to us and we wouldn't be staying. This was not what we wanted, or what we had paid for and entirely ruined the start to our holiday. We requested a full refund. We were told this was not possible as VRBO would only refund one night. We were told our contract was with them when we raised issue with this (factually incorrect.) We were refunded for one night and were told this was a goodwill gesture and that we should check our contract. Overall very disappointing, distressing and unacceptable.
