Had to book this hotel at the last moment on our bike trip to Scotland. We were looking for a cheap one night stay nearby M6. This hotel was just the best one for this. We did not expect much for the price we paid, but the hotel certainly exceeded our expectations. Had a chat with the reception there and got to know this building is Victorian era and had some history to it. The rooms were decent and breakfast was good. The service was excellent. Had a nice stay here and would like to come back. I can suggest this hotel to anyone. The parking is a bonus (very spacious)

Avoid.|Simply the worst hotel you can book.|We were placed in 'the cottage' which looked to be falling to bits and stunk of cigarettes and weed. The blind was broken so we were told to sleep with it open, the bed sloped, the shower door didn't close, and the whole place is dirty and dilapidated.|We were offered a new 'upgraded' room but this was just as bad, and nothing like the photos online.|The owner refused to offer any sort of refund for the false advertising and state of the rooms, then proceeded to insult my girlfriend.|We ended up staying in a nearby Airbnb instead and didn't bother staying at the Pinegrove. I'd suggest doing the same.

I honestly don't know where to start with this dump. It's such a shame as it's a lovely old building but it has been left to rot.|Upon arrival the man behind the desk tried to tell us and a few others that it was £15 for a pet when on the email we had revived as booking confirmation it clearly stated £10. He then tried to say that booking.com gets it wrong when we had in fact booked through their own website. Once we showed him this he said '£10 is fine'. |We then went upstairs to our room and immediately we could tell that it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Absolutely filthy carpets that were covered in old food stains and actual lumps of food, toe nails and tobacco. The bed base was spatterd with mystery stains as were the curtains which also had a thick layer of dust. I then pulled back the bed linen to discover absolutely tons of human and assuming dog hair, a genuine carpet of it! It was absolutely boiling and had no fan and 1 tiny window overlooking a set of houses and peoples kitchens.|We had travelled 4 hours and were nowhere near home so we quickly found another hotel nearby who said they had availability. We went downstairs and said very nicely that the room wasn't up to standard, that it was dirty and than we would just like a refund and we'll be on our way. The man said it was policy that they had to offer us another room to which we said ok. He led us to another room that didn't only have dirty carpets but also a half sucked sweet by the bed! I then really insisted that I wanted a refund and that we were going to go to another hotel. The man said we should have told him about the issues as soon as we entered the room, apparently 15 minutes wasn't fast enough. He then also said 'it's a 2 star hotel' and 'it is from the 18th century'. To which I replied, I still expect an old 2 star hotel to be clean. I understand 2 star hotels will have limited facilities but I at least expect a clean room. He said no matter what he said he wouldn't please us and to be honest at this point I agreed. No apologies, just begrudgingly shoved the card machine over to us to give us our refund. We went upstairs, got our things and on our way out I thanked him for his assistance to which is glared at me and said nothing. I had told him I was willing to just forget the whole thing and not post a negative review, however after how rude he was to us I changed my mind. We ended up in a different nearby 4* hotel for only £11 more expensive.

This is honestly one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed at. I’m not sure where to start.. ||||When we first walked in I had high hopes as it’s a lovely old building, it does need some work, but the original features are really nice. Unfortunately that is the only good thing I can say about the place.||||We were given a family room on the top floor, on the way up the banister of the steep upper staircase was hanging off the wall so our only support while carrying luggage was the wall. Upon entering the room, we noticed how filthy the carpet was, I don’t believe it’s been vacuumed for a long time. It was covered in hair, dirt and even dry old cooked rice. The bathroom had dirty towels, one was covered in makeup and toothpaste. ||My daughter had a single bed with normal spring mattress however, ours was bare orange foam which offered no support whatsoever. None of the mattresses or pillows had protectors and they were covered in pubic/body hair. ||There were cobwebs everywhere, the tv and remote were filthy and the window was practically hanging off. ||||We used the bar which had a limited choice of alcohol and the glasses were dirty. Weirdly, every drink cost £5 regardless of what you ordered. ||||During the night after feeling awfully uncomfortable and in pain, I booked us in to a local travel lodge as I simply couldn’t cope with a second night in there. ||||I also wouldn’t recommend the dodgy restaurant next door. Unsure if they’re related to the hotel but don’t trust the Google reviews.||We paid £100 a night for this place!! A TL cost me £114 which was at least clean and had proper mattresses.

had 1 night here whilst traveling to the highlands, very polite staff and a lovely place , new owners only been there aprox 2 months , and respect to them for what they are trying to do in such a short time, they are doing very well and deserve better ratings as i see a lot of reviews are so much older , we then had our 2 days in the highlands, upon our journey home we went back to pinegrove for a second night, shower was larger in this room ,but i had shower in other room to ok. over all it was clean, warm, nice bedding, clean soft towels , and very helpful owners, will definately go back. ( hopefully soon, as terminal with cancer) also free parking right outside hotel.

After reading all the reviews, I was dreading my 2 night stay here. However I was pleasantly surprised. |The bed was freshly made, the towels were clean and the room was fine. I stayed in room 33, and the only downfall was the shower, it had no pressure at all.|The breakfast was basic, but ok.|The staff are very friendly and will do anything to help you.|Remember, this is a budget hotel, and you get what you pay for. It does not warrant the 1* reviews. |I would stay here again.

Never got to view a room; having booked a room for the night before the rat run the wall ultra marathon months in advance, only to find that they claimed they held no reservation, and had no relationship with hotels.com, and yet clearly a reservation with hotels.com via which we received an invitation to check in on line 17 minutes before we arrived physically to the hotel. A similar story for the group of runners who booked via booking.com.

Clearly the hotel are prioritising direct bookings over their existing obligations with online booking services.

Shabby reception, and ground floor lounge areas.

AVOID at all costs

Stayed here last night and would stay again.

Last minute booking in the day...arrived late evening with my new pup in tow.

Yes it's very run down like other reviewers have mentioned and yes arrived late and had to go searching to find somebody. And was hit with surprise £15 extra charge for having a pet with me which booking.com made no mention of. Just advertised in the pet friendly options.

BUT...3 lovely lovely guys running the show during my stay. And I mean lovely. Proper old skool "anything you need" style service.

Breakfast was great. Basic, fast, hot, well cooked and decent portion.

Guy cooking and serving was brilliant. Even brought out a chopped up sausage for my pup.

Had comfy enough beds, clean sheets, running hot water...everything you need for a night.

And it's well located with fast charging points just down the road.

At end of day we had a friendly stay with a good night's sleep and a hot breakfast and coffee before continuing our journey.

So what else do you need?

Will stay again, simply because the guys are so friendly and accomodating.

They deserve your money.
