Stumbled on this unique b&b via Durham Information Centre who recommended that we try calling Dianne (our incredible host!) We were having trouble trying to find accommodation pre freshers week at the University and she came up trumps. Fantastic accommodation at a fraction of the price of others we tried.||||Whilst it is about 10 miles from the centre of Durham, its only 20 minutes by car plus on a bus route too...Location wasn't an issue as there is a park and ride in town and numerous car parks.||||I was expecting just a pleasant room but what we got was a whole self contained wing...two separate bedrooms and a full bathroom - all of which was spotless and more like an air b&b! The sleep we had was amazing and the attention to detail and small gifts for guests were plentiful. Dianne is a super host and nothing was too much trouble. The range of breakfast on offer was outstanding - all organic and/or home grown. . Would definitely stay again.||||She has a website for the full range of facilities. Highly recommended...check it out!

This is a B&B we will be coming back to. Not only did my husband and I find it an absolute stunner in terms of value for money but the owners are generously and genuinely hospitable, going out of their way to ensure you have a comfortable stay and have everything you need and more. The food is gorgeous and freshly homemade as well as being locally sourced and organic. The awards they have won for their breakfasts are well deserved! We found our room to be extremely comfortable (not to mention beautifully decorated), perfectly clean and well stocked with snacks and little extras. The location is excellent for getting a quiet night's sleep yet still so easy for accessing Durham and the surrounding countryside. We highly recommend the Polemonium Plantery.

My Friend and I have just returned from a 4-night stay at Polemonium Plantery. ||We both stayed in en suite single rooms which were lovely and clean and both slept very well in the comfortable beds. Bedding and towels were of excellent quality. Each room and bathroom had toiletries and vanity set type supplies in addition to a hairdryer and hot water bottle. My job entails many hotel stays and the rooms packed all the benefits and more of any hotel room with the extra character of the plant themed décor. Even a tyre pump was supplied for a slow puncture on my car so that I could get to a garage for a replacement||There was a choice of various teas, coffee, hot chocolate and a small decanter for those who like a tipple before bed. There is also the addition of biscuits and chocolates in the rooms which leads me on to food||We stayed on a B&B basis but Dianne also offers evening meals which we gratefully took advantage of. The meals were cooked around each person’s taste and dietary wishes. The food is organic, locally sourced or home grown on their allotment and cooked from scratch including the home-made jams bread and of course her famous Durham Pikelets. The smell of home cooking was lovely as was the taste of all the meals we had. We were introduced to Dianne’s edible flowers which added beautiful colouring to the meals. We enjoyed the bread and cakes so much that we could buy some to bring away with us||Dianne was a good source of information about the Durham area and of course about horticulture. The location is quiet and well positioned as a base for touring the area. Excellent value||Many thanks

A warm welcome and a lovely friendly place to stay. Everything is organic and the rooms are equipped with everything you could possibly need. Wonderful breakfast - the Durham pikelets were delicious. Recommended for cyclists too as there is a secure place to leave bikes.

A beautiful, unique and charming place to stay. Very good for cyclists and plant-lovers! We felt very welcome, and really appreciated having a meal cooked especially for us. One of the best places we stayed. Recommended.

A warmer welcome would be very hard to find. Dianne was delightful and I loved the wonderful locally sourced food and teas, (homemade pikelets were a particular highlight) even all the toiletries were locally made. It is very good value for money and wonderfully quiet. Within easy reach of Durham where I was working.

The owners couldn't have been more helpful, we just stayed for 1 night , rooms were clean, lovely toiletries, great breakfast and you must try the Durham pikelets they were gorgeous, good variety of organic products for breakfast.||The rooms are of a certain age but all the little personal touches made up for it; - more chocolates than even I can eat, tinned shortbread biscuits, small jug of Sloe gin in each room, bottled water, hand made organic soap.||I would say outside area looked a bit overgrown and let it down for first impressions but overall if I needed to be in the area I would stay again.

I had such a pleasant experience here with Diane and David. I had their Lovely pleasant garden to myself where I was able to read my kindle and enjoy my rooibush tea. then learned that Diane had a plant biology n horticulture background. Everything here is home grown organic n naturally prepared! I appreciated the length these couple have gone through being a newly qualified veterinary surgeon, they gave me their best attention at this cottage of theirs designed from scratch and nourished me with local meat and produce from the village and farms across! I came here to attend a friends wedding at Wynyard country hall and this discovery has definitely caught my attention! I shall bring my bike up next!!
