Positives: |Clean, spacious ground floor room with large comfortable bed and tea / coffee making facilities. Large, clean bathroom with shower over bath. Room cleaned daily. Plenty of on-site parking. Reasonable price and easy to find.||Negatives: |The TV in the room didn’t work. |The shower taps were very stiff and I had to use a towel to turn them on.|Limited toiletries provided.|Reception not always manned, the bell on the desk didn’t work and it was hard to find someone to help (either in person and on the phone)|On arrival, no explanation of facilities available in the hotel, particularly restaurant /bar. |In the room, there was a menu stating a good variety of menu options available in the restaurant and bar. However, when I enquired about having dinner in the restaurant one evening, I was advised it was closed as they had a large party (30-40 people) and I could only have either pizza, fish & chips, baguettes or a burger from the bar and not until after 8 pm. Nothing like the menu provided in the room and certainly nothing like the glowing details provided on the hotel website. Furthermore, no prior notification of the closure of the restaurant. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was the varied restaurant menu. I ended up going to the supermarket to get (cold) food.|On departure, very matter of fact check-out, no questions about how my stay had been, if everything had been ok or not, etc. Just pay your money and off you go. ||Overall, a very disappointing stay.

This used to be a fabulous hotel, one you looked forward to as a treat, somewhere considered pretty up market. You can see that it used to be that way as the quality fixtures and fittings still largely remain.|However, the grounds are now looking unkempt, cigarette ends outside the main reception weeds growing everywhere and rubbish discarded in the hedges. The glass in the reception doors was filthy. |We were in the extension in room 405. The smell of damp in the stairwell was unpleasant, the walls are in desperate need of a repaint and there were cobwebs between the banisters.|The room was a good size over looking what used to be lovely gardens and carpark that was strewn with weeds.|The window had god only knows smeared over it and the window sill was dusty with encrusted food on it. The poor excuse for pillows on the bed were extremely thin, hard and lumpy. |The bathroom was a good size with shower over bath. Bath was clean as was the toilet. No bin or bags for sanitary products. The shower rail was rusty and the shower curtain was the cheapest, thinnest piece of plastic I have seen in a hotel being only one step up from a black bin liner. Water marks were visible on the floor, no idea when the grout was last cleaned as a lot of black mould was present. There was only one bath towel between the 2 of us for 2 days. The Oh went to ask for another and was told they don't normally give out 'extra' towels. I would hardly call one towel per guest as extra. After saying we would go and buy one, we were given our extra towel. |We didn't sample the dinner at the hotel but this morning we went to try the 'continental breakfast' included with our room. |It was the poorest excuse for a breakfast at a hotel I have ever experienced. The. Cheapest b and b I have stayed in was better than this. There were boxes of cereal, plain yoghurt and toast. The nod to a continental breakfast was a few slices of ham. Coffee was weak and barely warm. |When asked on checking out if everything was OK with out stay, the best I could say was that it was adequate. As a place to sleep it was fine but it's very sad to see how much this hotel has changed. |

We stayed here to attend a wedding taking place nearby. I stay away often with work meaning I get to see many hotels. We booked a few months ago and paid £140 for 2 nights and at £70 a night I was very impressed with the value for money. Our room was clean, and the place is charming. The Kronenbourg on draft was fresh tasting and the lines are clearly well kept. ||Just a note to all guests reading this review. Be kind! Yes it is not perfect, and from the conversations I’ve had with the staff, they are aware of where they can improve (what place is perfect at £70+ a night) but the obnoxious, abusive and out right disrespectful behaviour and attitudes of other guests at this hotel is the shameful thing here, not the caring and decent staff who are trying their best to deliver good service. I pray those guests don’t return for the sake of the staff. It costs nothing to be kind! ||For the price, this place gets 5stars from me.

Awful. More like a hostel. Filthy room. Stinks of cigarettes. One towel for two of us. No hot water. At all. King size bed was actually quite comfy! Only decent part. Do not bother. No shampoo or shower gel. Just pretty awful in total!! Looks lovely from the outside. Which we’d stayed outside!!

Terrible stay! This hotel was really not up to scratch. I checked in quite late and ended up having a lukewarm shower at best so decided to run the bath to warm up (the shower was already starting to fill up the bath as it didn’t drain quickly enough with the power of the shower). The water started coming out of the bath tap an odd yellow colour then turned a gross orange!! I left it in the bath so the hotel staff would see it the next day but as it was so late and I’d already had my shower I just went to sleep. A loud obnoxious guest was on the phone very loud at 4.30am which was not ideal (I know that’s not the hotels fault!), but very much disturbed me. Breakfast was a sad looking cold buffet and separate table for toast and coffee. All cooked breakfast was the same, no choices, but it made sense when it came out. Bacon cooked on a radiator, half a field mushroom, no hash browns on a child’s size plate. I dread to think if they even had a veggie or vegan option! I’m not sure what they supposedly charge for breakfast as it was part of room rate, but whatever it is you don’t get value for money. I then used a public toilet in reception. There was 3 cubicles, 1 was out of order, one had the seat almost falling off and the third was blocked and also had no lock on door. I complained as I checked out and there was someone else also complaining and requesting a refund at reception, the poor staff seem very undertrained, overworked and under appreciated.I will be complaining directly to the hotel manager too. It’s no wonder people stick to places like Premier Inn’s because you can pretty much guarantee the quality every time you stay! Very disappointed and should’ve just stayed at home!

Overall very good value for money for one night. Ok it's a bit tired as a venue and could do with some TLC but what can you expect for the price - for a family room with breakfast included less than £30 per person. ||It's a bit of a shame because the outside of the building is gorgeous and the location is really good. With a bit of updating inside they could probably charge a lot more.||Inside there's the odd ceiling paint stain, chipped furniture and rough carpets. The room itself was clean and we had a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed. One downside was the shower was cold despite running for 15 minutes (advice from reception). To be fair to them they did say any problems let us know and we'll come to sort it out, but we didn't have time in the morning. We were well awake when we left let's say.||The breakfast was really good.||Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Tired, worn out and very dated decor. All items in Men's WC dirty and/or broken.
No lighting in the car park for many months so quite dangerous after dark. Car park also floods so there may be a drain issue. There is a potentially attractive area near the riverside but pathways are indistinct and grown over with moss and weeds.
Needs restoration to its glory days. Current management are running the place on a shoe string budget. I cannot comment on the rooms. The comments above are confined to the public facing common areas only.

A fun event last night spoilt by horrible food. Extremely poor service!! Event began at 7.30. At 10.22 my basic main course turned up of fish and chips about 2 hours after the disgusting tasting tomato soup. Fish so rubbery! So far I had eaten a bread roll. Had to leave about 10.30 without a desert. |Shambolic service!||If people at the event have been served their food and left - so much waste on their plates - before yours even arrives - you are being made a fool of. I expected a promptly served tasty 3 course meal which I had paid for.|Such a lack of respect for the paying public makes a mockery of the hospitality business. |The owners should be banned from trading.
