This time the room was excellent..very clean, big comfortable double bed, clean sheets, the room was spotless . Bathroom again very clean and two large bath towels. Quiet part of the hotel (room 97) The only one thing that niggled was no remote control..did ask at reception they said they would 'sort it' but later in the evening still no remote. It was was midnight anyway so didn't really need it.

Recently stayed 2 nights for a friends civil ceremony.
Yes the rooms could do with a little upgrade but they were not so terrible as you could not stay there and they were comfortable and mine was very spacious.
The staff could not have been any more helpful. I was helping out with setting up the room for after the ceremony and the staff were continuously polite and eager to help. We even had to call a member to one room as the heating was set to high, there was no hesitation or complaint. A member of staff attended the room quickly and resolved the issue.
The reception food was lovely and staff very attentive and patient to our needs, without being overbearing or a constant presence throughout the day. We were left to enjoy the event at the appropriate points and staff were only present when the need arose (serving food and drinks) or when requested.
Breakfast on both mornings was enjoyable. Again staff on hand to assist, brought tea, coffee and milk direct to our table, and were quick to notice when food needed replenishing on hot plate/dish. We had a member of our party who is vegetarian and the staff saw no issue in providing alternatives to the usual breakfast meats. (Even providing a second plate when the first was accidentally dropped, with no impatience or judgement)

Overall I had a very enjoyable stay at the hotel and would recommend to anyone.

do not stay. Its not safe. Owner prioritizes own wealth over safety of staff and guests. This whole building should be condemned. Mattresses in some rooms are decades old, carpets are gross, and the walls are peeling.

Firstly the staff we met were friendly. That is the only positive about this 'hotel'.
Upon arrival from the rear car park, I entered the hotel and had to walk through a corridor of flies.
Not a great start.
The young lad on reception was friendly and efficient but as I looked around, I thought I had travelled back in time to the 80s or 90s.
The whole hotel is tired, unloved, stained and in desperate need of a refurb.
The radiators were on full blast in the rooms (perhaps recruiting more flies?) - in the first weekend in July. The only solution was to have the windows open completely.
The walls, ceilings, surfaces, carpets are all stained, fabrics frayed and just well past their sell by date.
There were no crumbs or stray hairs in the room but as the saying goes the cleaners and staff "cannot polish a...."
We spoke with some locals and when we explained where we were staying, they laughed and screwed their noses up.
Finally, do not try to return to the hotel after dark. Both evenings our party returned to the hotel just after midnight. There is no way to open the doors and no one responds to the door bell.
The first night, one of our group had to climb in a first floor window and the second night a ground floor window.
Even for the price, the hotel is vastly overpriced. I really wish I had read the reviews in advance and that is the reason I have taken the time to post this.
Please see the photos showing the conditions of the bed. I did not dare to pull back the covers.
I felt like wiping my feet on the way out.

Stayed here in November 2021.

Lift was not working. Restaurant closed despite being advertised. No breakfast and no gym but they advise this online to trick you good.
When asked reception, they said they haven't had this for a while because of covid.

Room was freezing, heating not working!!! Homeless shelters must have better conditions!

Bed and towels were clean but not much else. Floor was dirty and walls were really dirty. A simple wet-wipe would have solved the issue, but probably staff has no time to clean.

Was unable to phone reception because phone had no cable! Ended up with a few more covers after a massive complaint with a employee that couldn't care less. (I wonder how bad is to work in a place like this!)

Hotel is old but this wouldn't matter if the conditions would be good, unfortunately the basics weren't met.

Left the hotel really early to carry on my trip as I couldn't bear any second longer here.

Have used many hostels, B&Bs and shared-accommodation and they are much cheaper and far better than this. Haven't had this bad service in a very long time.

Hope this hotel closes. No one deserves this. What a shambles.

I've stayed several times and always thought it great value. The decor is a little tired - curtain and liner were both very torn on my last stay - but at the same time the bathroom was spotless and the bed comfortable so for a short break it's ideal. Also all the staff I've come across are really great

Unacceptable. Checked in at 4.45pm to find our room hadn't been cleaned. Stained toilet, not hoovered, dirty teaspoons, dirty sheets on the floor. Housekeeping clearly not done their job and the reception staff were doing their best to sort and clean rooms not done. Ours was not the only room, judging from the comments overheard. General condition of the room was poor, stain on curtains, damage carpet, stained walls, broken light fitting, desperately needs a refurb. The staff that were on duty were full of apologies, eager to try and please and did discount the room. Overall poor as check-in was at 2pm. Only giving 2 due to the staff doing their best.

An ancient city centre hotel, everything is very dated in the hotel except the staff. The staff generally speaking, lacked the proper professional social skills for a customer focused business.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The room I was given was dark, literally very dark with burned out lights and a promise from staff to bring a desk lamp.

The WiFi did not work, and was told by staff it had issues but the manager chooses to only trust one person who wasn't available.
