We have just returned from a 9 day stay at Ransomes. Andrew & Nicky were the perfect hosts, who were very friendly when welcoming us into their lovely home. We had a large bedroom overlooking a beautifully kept garden, a very comfortable bed with a very good ensuite shower and bath. An excellent breakfast prepared by Andrew on the Aga set us up for the day, whether exploring the local villages and attractions or simply sitting in their peaceful garden with the odd visit from Merlin the dog.|We wouldn't hesitate in recommending Ransomes and would definitely return again, next time we were in the area.||Thanks again Andrew & Nicky

This is an oasis. The friendliest of welcomes, we felt at home and relaxed as soon as we walked in. What a delightful setting. The beautiful gardens and adjoining land are an escape from the real world. Benches dotted in strategic places to watch the local wildlife. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast prepared freshly by Andrew on the amazing Aga was always delicious. Central to many tourist spots. |I would happily go back there.

A delightful house set in rural Essex in the village of Peldon. We stayed in the blue room which overlooked the cottage garden. There was a bird feeder located near the window which provided us with the opportunity to see many varieties of birds swooping down to eat the various treats which was delightful to witness at such close proximity. |The hosts Andrew and Nikki were amazing and facilities perfect for a break away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The room was large but still retained a cosy feel. The en-suite bathroom was perfect… and the tea and coffee facilities in the lobby area was a nice touch, with fresh milk in the fridge for our use. The breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. Would definitely recommend this pretty B&B.

What a gem! We have just returned from a wonderful few days staying at this lovely b & b. We had a warm welcome from our hosts Nicky and Andrew. The blue room is very comfortable and clean and overlooks the fabulous garden which we had full use of. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the birds coming to the bird feeders outside our window. Breakfast was lovely, cooked and served by Andrew at their kitchen table. Nicky and Andrew were very attentive to our needs and were constantly asking if we had everything we needed. If ever we are back in the region we wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Thank you for a fabulous stay.|Nicola and Paul

Amazing room with excellent bedlinen, spacious bathroom en suite, kettle, choices of teas and coffees, milk in fridge just outside; great view onto garden with flowers from a picture window. Superb breakfasts - full English plus! with fresh juices, carefully made coffee, home made marmalade. Cooked to order and refined to need each day we stayed. Nothing could be too much trouble. Excellent advice on local sights, how to get there and how to book. Very convenient for Mersea Island where we ate at the Shed (probably the best sea food in Britain), recommended to Beth Chatto's superb Dry Garden. Plus England's first capital Colchester and Constable country (Vale of Dedham). A perfect base from which to discover the unsung glories of..... Essex!

We had arranged to see some friends on Mersea island and decided at the last moment to find somewhere to stay for a couple of nights. We tried the usual suspects, chain hotels etc but they were too far from Mersea than we expected. ||We searched again and included B&B’s. We liked the look of Ransomes, and the really good reviews, and phoned to see if they had availability, Nicky answered the phone and confirmed that they had availability for their blue room. ||Upon arrival we were greeted by Andrew, who showed us around and explained a few things before heading off to get our breakfast ingredients from local producers.||The house was immaculate, our room was perfect, very clean, everything worked, and a big comfortable bed. Tea and coffee facilities were just outside the room and included normal teas and coffees along with some very nice specialist teas etc.||Directly outside the bedroom window are the bird feeders, with lots of different birds enjoying the selection of seeds, fat balls, etc. A lovely view with the backdrop of the amazing gardens. We soon ventured out to explore the gardens and the lake, before settling down with a cup of tea outside, admiring the view and enjoying the sunshine.||In the evening we headed out for a meal at a pub restaurant recommended by Andrew and had a very nice meal before heading back. The blue room has its own front door, so you don’t need to disturb Andrew or Nicky (unless you phone them by mistake that is!).||Breakfast was simply amazing, cooked by Andrew on the Aga. There was also what seemed to be a never-ending selection of cereals, jams and honey etc, the honey being from their own hives. We also had figs which were grown in their garden, very nice.||Andrew and Nicky were perfect hosts, they made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble, and we would certainly stay there again.||We certainly had a lucky escape by not ending up in a chain hotel.|
