Absolute dive of a place - so bad I wanted to travel the two hours back home rather than stay. Was like something out of a horror film.||||Our assigned room hadn't been cleaned properly - dust and cobwebs all over, infested with large spiders so my husband had to go get a vac off the reception to get rid of them himself! A staff member came up and admitted it was bad in there. When we checked the bathroom, the water out of sink and shower was brown also. ||||We asked to switch rooms and the lady on reception huffed and sighed whilst we explained we had paid for a clean and sufficient room; the next room the TV didn't work and batteries were sellotaped to the remote. The next room after that the mirror on the wall had a large crack all the way through and the wall behind the toilet was broken and a visible gap. When we advised to the receptionist that none were suitable for the price we paid, she said all the rooms have problems that need fixing to we would have to make do - we asked if we would get some of our payment back and she laughed at us and said no it's their money now? She also tried to shush the chef who was staying in one of the suites on the other side of the building, as he was in reception and told her to put us in the suite next to him as the suites were all in good condition and she then moaned that we hadn't paid for a suite so why should we be given one to stay in even though all the other rooms were in horrendous conditions! ||||The chef was the only nice member of the staff there, everyone else rude and we heard a waiter at breakfast telling another staff member that we were the 'stupid people who complained about no wifi' so clearly receptionist had been gossiping about us! I don't know why they felt so put out about us asking for the WiFi it says was available when apparently it had been down for months; I had explained I needed it for work reasons hence why we were booked in there. Once again, the kind chef sorted this out as well as the suites Internet worked.||||I feel sorry for anyone who's booked in for weddings. Our stay was a while back, yet the photos from people staying a week ago are of the rooms in the exact same state. It's practically robbery at this point, they rely on you paying in advance online so you feel trapped into staying or leaving without a refund. The owners clearly don't care about the place or people paying to stay or have weddings there. With a bit of investment it could be a really lovely place.

Stayed here as the last guests for a private event before they close today for refurbishments , due to reopen again in around 4 weeks time, considering this is literally the last night of opening our stay was one of the best places we have ever visited the staff were absolutely amazing and couldn't do more for us nothing was too much trouble and you didn't even need to ask for help their hospitality was 5* highly recommend a stay here once they are back open again ..we will definitely be back again. Most friendliest hotel which really makes guests feel valued , thank you to all staff keep doing what you are doing and see you again in the future from room 17

This is the most beautiful hotel, we were allocated room 11, great character and grounds. It was clean and facilities in the room were stocked. If you are looking for a country getaway close to things to do, this is perfect.||If you are wanting to be waited on and not leave your hotel this is probably not the place. Lacking in staff… and guests. But for us this was perfect. ||Things to do close by: Clifford health spa. Risley park for food. Lane garden centre for breakfast and animals.

Do not book to stay here. My friends from America made their booking in February to stay here this weekend for my Wedding nearby. However, after trying to call for days on end I decided to drive over. It’s currently a construction site and is closed!!!! They have not notified my friends, and are accepting any responsibility. Getting a refund is near impossible. And unless the workmen are there to go and wake up the “receptionist” who is apparently currently staying in one of the rooms, you will not be able to speak to anyone.

Terrible customer service! Myself, fiancée and all our wedding guests were booked in at this hotel for us to stay after our wedding due to go ahead 18th May, however 3 weeks before i had an email through booking.com advising that they are now unable to honor our booking due to them having a refurbishment when we booked this back in November last year, no call just an unapologetic message. ||I then tried calling the hotel numerous times to find myself being hung up on!!! After i explained my concerns back to them through an email there response was 'We hope you find somewhere else, have a lovely day.' ||I would highly recommend anyone considering booking here to steer well clear of this place and looking at previous reviews there are a few large bookings they have cancelled only a few weeks before.

I was concerned by reviews I read but our room was large, clean and had very comfortable beds. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The hotel is still a work in progress and being a listed building changes can take time. Don't be put off by reviews makeup your own mind.

Not bad overall. Was dreading coming here after reading so many poor reviews. However it wasn't as bad as expected. Really random place, feels like a ghost hotel. I can imagine it used to be lovely but now struggling and in need of big investment and good management. Good service at check in, nice polite lady. No issues. Room was massive though a little bare asides a four poster bed and a funky wardrobe. It was clean but tired. The mattress was really poor but no problem for one night. Bathroom again massive, twin sinks but everything all a bit old and shower was a bit rubbish. However it worked.
Breakfast was basic and quality average but enough to keep you going. Cutlery could do with a good clean and polish. Staff again were polite and hard working.
Check out simple. I've stayed in a lot worse and considering the price I can't complain too much. However just left feeling this place could be so much better and deserves to be. It's a fantastic building and location.

Oh there's a decent pub round the corner. If it wasn't for that, you'd be a bit stuck.

Lovely hotel, I booked ahead and got a really good price. I was greated at the front desk and the member of staff was very friendly. My room was a lovely size. The toilet had a slight flushing and leaking issue hence the 4 stars. Other than that I was very happy with my room. I did unfortunately have some very noisy neighbours in the room next door as they kept having people banging on their door every 10 minutes. This went on until way past midnight and carried on again at 6 in the morning.
