I was treated to a Sunday night stay along with my husband, as a Mother’s Day treat from our children. The room was very tastefully decorated and had high quality complimentary toiletries, big fluffy towels and even two gorgeous home made choux buns which were delicious! Plenty of parking spaces too. Our room had patio doors leading out to a pretty private terrace. Staff all very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was exceptional, one of the best we have had with good quality produce, a lovely table setting and excellent staff. |We spent Sunday afternoon taking a mostly riverside and leisurely walk into Bakewell and back. |In the evening we had a wonderful Sunday roast at the Bull’s Head a 3 minute walk from the hotel. 2 courses for £22 or 3 courses for £27 -amazing quality and value. The pub was full and it was a good job our daughter booked for us in advance. Afterwards we popped into the Ashford Arms for a drink -another lovely pub in the village and that was very busy serving meals too. The prices for Sunday lunch/ dinner at the hotel were more expensive and perhaps this is why there were fewer people dining in the restaurant and why the bar was so quiet. |On Monday we did the Monsal Head circular walk which was great with lovely views. All in all a wonderful stay at a lovely hotel. We will recommend to others and we will definitely return.

I had an amazing stay at this hotel! The location is absolutely beautiful, right next to the river, and it’s also close to some fantastic local hiking routes—perfect for exploring the area. The rooms were spotless and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Both dinner and breakfast were fantastic, with great options for vegans, which was a huge plus. The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and truly hope to return soon!

Had brunch with friends who have just moved to the area, 2 orders of eggs Benedict and one full breakfast all outstanding and beautifully presented. The best eggs I think I have ever tasted! The ladies who looked after us today were very professional but mostly very friendly and patient taking time to show us around and answer all our questions, the lady serving us was very attentive and had a great sense of humour 🤣We will definitely be back.

We were in the Kingfisher in the main building, above the entrance. The room is decorated in relaxing sage greens, with a four poster framed bed, quirky floor levels and sash windows overlooking the wooded gardens. It had a comfy feel, seperate tea and cofee points, odd places where the decor needs attention but generally a very nice room with a large cast iron roll bath and quite small but very powerful shower. Bed is on the soft side, which we found very comfy. The inclusive breakfast service was awesome, 3 'courses' - nothing unusual in the food provided but no self service and we found it a delightful difference. We booked a dinner B&B offer and found it reasonable value, not a bargain but we rarely revisit hotels and we may well return if we see a goodoffer in the future. Dinner was proper restaurant fare, small islands of offerings on a large plate, but we were stuffed at the end of 2 courses and the food was excellent. Plenty of parking in the tree- shaded carpark and it feels very safe and secure. Two pubs in the village just a few minutes from the hotel, so if you're staying more than one night there's plenty of variety. Overall, service is top notch, it feels like the staff were the owners in terms of commitment to guests, the hotel has an interesting layout and compact, shady gardens and offers a relaxed, convivial stay.

Visited to inquire about facilities for a celebratory luncheon. Was greeted by Jemima who showed us the options available and the menu. All staff we encountered were polite and helpful. It was not difficult to decide that this would be the ideal venue for our requirements. Than you all and we look forward to seeing you in June.

My partner and I had an overnight stay here on Valentines night. What a beautiful place! The customer service was excellent from start to finish, from the warm welcome at reception to the enthusiasm and knowledge of the wine waiter Alistair and prompt efficient service in the dining room.
The food was absolutely 5 star and the bedrooms were comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Overall the best hotel experience ever! Thankyou to all your wonderful staff members for making our stay a memorable one!

Booked at late notice for two nights whilst travelling around the Peak District. Beautiful setting, ample car parking and car charging if you need it. |Easy check in after a busy day travelling and shown to a very comfortable room on the first floor overlooking a pleasant view. On check in we were asked about a table for dinner, I have no doubt dinner would be wonderful but due to the fixed price arrangement (2 courses £65/head plus drinks) we chose to pass and sampled the two other pubs in the village which were both excellent. |A comfortable nights sleep and excellent choice and quality at breakfast, all freshly prepared and served by wonderful hosts. If I were to make one comment it would be to encourage a more reasonable food offering for dinner. While I don’t doubt the quality of the current high-end offering, those customers who want more middle-of-the-road will continue to visit the other establishments in the village, to the detriment of Rafters.

Living within 20 miles we had often thought we should try this restaurant rather going further afield but unfortunately it turned out to be rather disappointing given the reviews. We (4 of us) dined at 7pm and chose the a la carte menu at £80pp (plus £5 per extra side). Having taken our order, we were informed carrots as a side dish were sold out?! (There’s a major supermarket 2 minutes away?!) that left two other side dishes - broccoli or mashed potatoes, which given our main course already contained a mash topping on a small hunters pie, effectively meant it was broccoli or nothing. In brief, for my own choices; roast cauliflower puree &|yesterday’s bread glazed leg. Partridge was on the dry side and the bread glazed leg was essentially a very salty sausage, the seasoning overpowering any partridge in there. Next scottish venison loin, |hen of the woods mushroom, red cabbage, hunters pie. Two small rounds of venison, unfortunately overcooked to being almost grey in colour. An extra side of broccoli was required to balance the dish out. On the whole all our starters/mains were luke warm border line of being sent back and unfortunately we had to ask for a replacement hunters pie because the mash was just tepid. Even the maitre d’ commented that the plates were cold (so why bring them out?). Dessert of poached rhubarb, milk ice cream and white chocolate was well presented and tasty with a good balance of sweet/sour. With two bottles of wine, the bill including service charge was £478. At this price point, no full choice of sides, cold plates and luke warm food not should not happen. Hopefully given the reviews this was a blip on their part but I’m not sure I want to chance another £478 to find out.
