We only booked for the Saturday night as we were meeting up with friends nearby and we were the only guests there that night. On arrival, we were offered a choice of two rooms, both of which looked very nice. We chose the largest one with wonderful views across the weald towards Crowborough. It contained everything we needed, the bed had nice linen and was very comfortable and the hospitality tray contained a good range of herbal teas. ||||The bathroom was for our sole use and was located next to our room. It was quite large and had a good range of toiletries and plenty of towels. There was a shower over the bath. Both the bathroom and bedroom were nicely decorated, very clean and had interesting pictures and ornaments. ||||Breakfast was served the next morning in a very attractive room overlooking the garden. The table was set out nicely with Wedgwood china, little jam and marmalade pots, linen napkins etc. There was a good choice of cereals, juice, melon and fresh fruit or yoghurts to begin with, followed by a cooked breakfast, toast, tea or coffee. My husband chose tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans and I asked for tomatoes, mushrooms and scrambled egg. Both breakfasts came with a potato waffle which wasn't particularly nice and unfortunately the scrambled egg wasn't to my taste either being very sloppy and runny. But apart from that, the breakfast was fine.||||John and Sonia, who have lived at Rose Cottage for almost 30 years, have created a beautiful home and quite exceptional gardens. They have been awarded four stars by Visit Britain. ||||Mark Cross is very handy for visiting the lovely East Sussex/Kent countryside with its famous gardens and stately homes. Also Ashdown Forest is nearby for Winnie the Pooh fans.||||We thought £75 was a bit on the high side for one night's B&B but, on the whole, would have no hesitation in recommending Rose Cottage as a nice place to stay. It would particularly appeal to visitors from abroad who wanted to experience an up-market English B&B. I understand the owners are hoping to get a website up and running soon which would be helpful for anyone considering staying here.

We stayed here in September for two nights and found Rose Cottage to be delightful. Although the room was not en-suite, the bathroom adjacent we had to ourselves so felt quite private. Breakfast was beautifully prepared and presented and our host John was lovely and nice to chat to in the morning. We were a little surprised to find our bed had been re-made whilst we were at breakfast and our items that were on the bed had been moved. Perhaps it would be nice just to ask the guests first if it was alright to go into their room to make up the bed. Apart from that we found the stay lovely, the tasteful decor fitted the period charm of the cottage and the surrounding gardens are very pretty.

My wife and I stayed for two nights in the Rose Cottage over the Easter weekend 2016 and had a great time. ||||The place is really beautiful and comfortable. John and Sonia are lovely hosts, and the breakfast was amazing. Nice big full English and a nice veggie option for the wife. Complemented with tea, coffee, juice, cereal, fruit, yogurt and bread. ||||We are keen cyclists, so drove down with our bikes in tow, and there's lots of nice routes to do around the area. We also ventured into the nearby villages and went to a few of the pubs around. They were all great, and I'm sure John and Sonia would be happy to recommend one if you're looking for something specific. ||||We would love to stay again. It was the perfect English B&B weekend break.

My boyfriend and I travelled down to Rose Cottage at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were made to feel very welcome and chose the largest room at £75 per night and were not disappointed with the size and standard of the bedroom - the bed clothes were gorgeous, layers of blankets, eiderdowns & faux fur throws which create a very cosy atmosphere. The views from the bedroom window are lovely and the cooked breakfast was great. The couple that own the house also have a delightful 7 month old puppy who was fun to play with! ||||My one negative comment would be that the bathroom was a little dirty (smears on the mirror etc) but perhaps I'm being picky! On the whole, a great place to stay. ||||If you are in the area, I thoroughly recommend booking dinner in the Middle House in Mayfield - lovely atmosphere & fabulous food. The Mark Cross pub is a short walk from the B&B also and we heard positive things about there too but unfortunately didn't have time to stay for Sunday lunch.

A delightful quaint Georgian House, in a beautiful setting, our hosts had thought of everything. Adequate twin room, a little on the small size but OK for a short term stay. Own bathroom opposite. The lounge area was very comfortable with TV to relax in. An excellent breakfast was offered. Definitely would go back again.

Our accommodation at Rose Cottage was by default following a cancellation by another prebooked B & B.||The room was quite charming and clean, a little cluttered for our tastes but was in a beautiful and peaceful setting.||The negative was that we did not have an ensuite and consider the charge of 75 pounds a little on the high side for this reason when compared with our other B & B stays.||The bathroom was nice and clean but found the shower a little too quaint.||We did enjoy a lovely breakfast and found Sonya and John ||pleasant hosts. However on our return from early breakfast was astonished to find that our room had been entered, bathroom & bed linen changed even though we still had personal belongings left in the room.

Overall the service was ok. The bedroom was nicely done and although the room wasn't ensuite it didn't feel out of the way and was fairly private as we had the corridor to ourselves. The garden is lovely if the weather permits and there are nice views from some of the rooms. Breakfast was ok but unfortunately we had to decide what we wanted the night before which is never a good move. There is a nice pub just round the corner within walking distance although don't leave it too late to walk back as the lane is very dark.||Unfortunately the experience was tainted by the fact that whilst we were at breakfast the landlady went up to our room stripped the sheets and remade the bed - moving all our stuff in the process. She was about to move onto the bathroom as we arrived back upstairs! To say I wasn't impressed is an understatement - what if something got lost she'd be blamed for stealing and it would be her own fault for invading people's privacy. We paid £75 for the room which was quite expensive as there was nothing to justify that amount - and for the time we had paid the room should be ours! The bed was quite uncomfortable too - pretty hard with the odd spring digging in. If you don't like nic-nacks cluttering the place this is not for you either.||The other downside was that by her stripping the bed it showed that the sheets are the only thing that are regularly cleaned everything else is just put back on the bed including the duvet - although I'm not sure if the pillow cases were changed - I think not though!!!||I would say if you don't mind being invaded and paying a bit over the odds the location and the pub round the corner make it a worthwhile stopover!! But don't expect an overly friendly service or your room to yourself!!!!

Well signposted from the A267, between Frant and Mark Cross, with sufficient car parking.||We stayed just one night in this delightful B&B, a pretty cottage with loveingly tended garden. Friendly and welcoming owners, who laid on a very impressive breakfast!||The room was well appointed with shared bathroom and good Wifi. The double glazing very effectively keeps out the traffic noise and dawn chorus of the list cal bird population.||I would thoroughly recommend this B&B
