We have just enjoyed 4 nights staying at the Royal Standard and exploring Ely and its surrounds.
The Royal Standard is wonderful. The proprietor and staff are friendly and very helpful, the room was lovely and the food and service was outstanding. The breakfasts (which were included with our room) were delicious and filling and dinner in the restaurant was exceptional.
In addition, the Royal Standard is very well located, close to the Cathedral and shopping and other restaurants. The proprietor also recommended other pubs and restaurants we might wish to try while we were in Ely, which we appreciated.
We loved the Royal Standard and look forward to staying there again when we return to Ely.

I stayed at the Royal Standard at the end of December 2024. I was in room one a small double. This room is perfect for a solo traveller. It has a very comfortable bed. It was very warm. There is a large shower with toiletries and large towels.The beverages are above average with coffee bags and bottled water.|My room was serviced each day. The welcome was excellent. I took advantage of the early check in. We also ate in the pub which was very good. The soundproofing was very good so even on New Years Eve I only experienced some noise out on the road.|There are a few things that need to be looked at if I am to stay again. The Roman blind got stuck in the bedroom. I believe this has been a problem before. The window catch needs attention too.|It is unfortunate that the hotel does not provide any fruit for breakfast or museli/granola and yogurt. This must be an oversight on their part. The cooked breakfast items were excellent if you eat cooked breakfast. I will definitely want to stay here again.

Didn't stay but had dinner. Lovely chatty hosts. There was plenty of space, not too crowded. Special combo for burger and beer was a good deal. Handy to the shops and cathedral, parking just behind. Recommended by locals too, which is always a good sign.

Overnight stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary, brother and sister wedding anniversaries.
Apart from having to wait approximately 20 minutes for a free space in the short stay carpark behind the Royal Standard, the stay was great.
The staff were excellent and friendly. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding and catered very well for gluten free allergy.
Definitely recommend a visit to the Royal Standard.

We stayed here in Ely coming back from a family funeral up North. It was lovely. Very nice staff, check in was easy and friendly. Was really impressed by amenities in the room. Breakfast was gorgeous and nice that so much was included in the room price. If we'd have been a bit more "with it" we'd have found the bath mat in the cupboard in the bathroom, but the bath was still very nice as were the provided wash, shampoo and conditioner. Lovely location, lovely place and thank you so much to everyone for making this a very nice stay which really helped us at a sad time for us.

Stayed there with the family on Sunday night. From arrival to leaving everything was perfect. They have the right combination, staff efficient and friendly, room was clean and comfy. Now the food, can't fault it, it was the best I've tasted for a long time, amazing probably best described it. Great place, food and location with free carpark out the back.

Had a one night stay for my birthday on Saturday night. Really nice place. Room was clean and comfortable with everything you need. Food was excellent, both the evening meal and breakfast. Staff were attentive and friendly. Nice beer garden area. Highly recommend.

When we arrived and walked into the bar, I thought what have we done. We were greeted warmly and were shown to our room. Walking up the stairs, we were impressed with the decor and the thought that went into it. Our room was well and tastefully decorated, clean and cool with the AC turned on before we arrived. It was a hot day. There were plug sockets everywhere, so if you’re a gadget person like me, no problem to plug in. The bathroom was lovely and clean, with good quality soft large towels. The only comment I would make here, is that a shower mat would have been preferable, rather than getting out into the floor. I used the hand towel to step onto. Also a box of tissues would have been useful instead of using toilet paper to blow my nose. |The breakfast was also good and well cooked, with our order taken at our table. |The staff were friendly and always greeted us with a smile. |All in all a good place to stay as we were here for a family wedding nearby. If we needed to be in Ely again, we would come back.
