The location of this accommodation is fantastic. We had the top room with fabulous views, lovely and quiet also with balcony and with own bathroom facilities. The other rooms have a shared bathroom. The breakfast was excellent. We were very comfortable, it was very clean and we also had free on street parking. All this not far from the Spinnaker and shopping outlet and old harbour museums etc. We had a lovely three night break here with the additional benefit of a pub opposite and next door for eating in the evening, both very good. Just to add there are several flights of stairs to the top room.

The views of the ships passing by were amazing and the old town has lots of character. Its also very close to Gunwharf Quay if you're looking for shopping. Bobby was very friendly and hospitable and provided a very good breakfast. The only criticism I would have is that the rooms could do with a bit of updating but ours was clean and comfortable and for the price was very good value. We've stayed there before and would stay again.

A great place to sit and watch the ships go by. We had the en-suite double room on the top floor so the views were fantastic.||||However, the blinds/curtains in the room were damaged and not able to be used properly; the bedding felt worn-out and was musty; the "en-suite" was pokey and none of the shelves were much use as they all sloped downwards away from the wall. Breakfast was acceptable, but there were issues with cleanliness. Our glimpses into the kitchen from the dining room were not encouraging.||||We felt that the quality of accommodation should have been better at this price. This was the fourth and final stage of a touring holiday. The room was the most expensive and the least well presented on our tour. We could not recommend the Sailmakers Loft.

Stayed here in June 2015 for The Goodwood Festival & long weekend in Portsmouth. I'd read some of the not so great reviews before we stayed but I have to say you kind of get what you pay for. It's a budget establishment and I thought it was ok on that basis. Maybe could be a tad cleaner (for instance shower head & tiles and maybe a bit more use of the vacuum wouldn't go amiss) but the bed was fresh & quite comfy. We had a nice view of the sea & often watched the ferries coming & going. We found the owner to be very personable & pleasant & we had free on street parking with one of his permits. He even moved his car so we could park.||Overall, just take it for what it is - if you just need somewhere to get your head down that's cheap, don't hesitate.

Brilliantly situated on Camber point, within easy walking distance of Spinnaker and the Dockyard (Victory, Warrior, Mary Rose) and Southsea, the Sailmaker's Loft is as good as when I first discoered it five years ago. This stay, my fourth visit, I got room 4 for the first time. This room, on the top floor, has ensuite facilities, a balcony, and a fabulous view over the harbour.||||Bobby's freshly cooked breakfast was as good as ever and, though we awere the only guests this time, Bobby had still laid on the full range of cereals, melon, grapefruit, prunes, etc, plus his excellent coffee. Bobby (who runs the place) was his usual friendly, helpful self.||||There are a few negative reviews on tripadvisor about the sailmaker's, largely (I suspect) from people who somehow expect that the budget price Bobby charges entitles them to five-star hotel rooms, porter service and free sauna. This is not a five star hotel. It's a traditional B & B establishment, and all the better for it. ||||Bobby provides a permit for free parking in a car park about 50 yeardss away.||||The best recommendation I can give is that I shall be back in September for my (fifth) stay.

We booked room No. 4 as it had such good reviews and yes, the view was excellent and the B&B is in a good location, close to the town centre and the train station.||||Everything else was not so good. On arrival, we did not get any help with our luggage as Bobby has weight and attitude problems. As previously mentioned by other people, the room had some serious hygiene issues. My friend would not use the shower during the whole duration of our stay due to black and green mould on the walls. The glass doors of the shower had not been cleaned properly, the floor was stained, mirrors had fingerprints on them, the soap on the sink was open and obviously used by the previous lodgers. No other toiletries. Dirty cups on hospitality tray. Sheets on bed appeared to be clean, but were very worn out and did not smell fresh, nor did the towels. Bobby's explanation was that his cleaning lady was off sick, but it looked like he did not really care if we liked it or not. No one stays on the premises at night. ||||Breakfast was acceptable, but unfortunately, Bobby decided to sit at the next table to us talking and watching us eat, which we found very disconcerting and rude. Bobby's negative and judgmental views made us feel uncomfortable and what we found shocking was that he was happy to verbally abuse his previous foreign lodgers. Our stay was ruined by his attitude and we will not be coming back again.

Room was perfectly adequate, good breakfast and superbly located overlooking the harbour. Value for money and will definitely go back. Old Portsmouth is full of character with an outstanding Turkish restaurant which I can't recommend highly enough.

Fabulous stay in this beautiful spot. The views are amazing and always some shipping to watch going by. The bed in our room (4) was really comfortable and a good size.||Hospitality tray was well stocked and breakfast was well cooked and coffee good.||I would love to come back here and the view is hard to beat.
