Cleaning was not perfect. A lot of visible crud round the carpet edges and a great deal of fluff attached to the wall behind the bathroom mirror. Months’ worth of the stuff at the very least. Gappy curtains which had fallen off their hooks in places (which I fixed by balancing on a chair and re-attaching). Not ideal considering the bright floodlights in the car park right outside. Being an old building there were quite a few squeaky floorboards in the room above which were a slight irritation. And the tiniest shower cubicle I’ve ever seen. Physically v little room to bend to pick bottles of toiletries off the shower tray as there were no shelves/baskets in the shower to store such things. This in a superior room for £120 per night for 1 person. No inquiry upon checkout as to the quality of my stay. No eye contact either, come to think of it. Plus side: good location, characterful.

We had a fantastic night at “The Sally” to celebrate my 60th Birthday. The Adam Room was the perfect setting for my 1920s themed Murder Mystery Night, it looked wonderful with black tablecloths & candelabra. All of the staff were very attentive ..a special shout out goes to Gordon & Monica for dressing in the theme and providing exceptional service. The food was delicious and very well presented. I have enjoyed many great nights at the Salutation Hotel from family celebrations, to Christmas works nights out..great fun and special memories have been made there. Thanks very much to all the team who make you feel like any request is no problem. Thank you everyone.

Haven't actually stayed here yet, my booking is for the end of the month. My review is on the customer service which I received from Kyle. Such a good response from him and he managed to reschedule my booking for me. Such a lovely person to speak with. Thank you, it's appreciated 😀😀😀😀

For the charge of £174 for a room, I would expect it to be decent. Not paint peeling of the walls, dust everywhere. Bed that you could feel springs through. Breakfast is included but not up to much.

An excellent hotel, well situated. The staff were very helpful. Be aware of the third floor stairs as the door opens out onto the stairs, which is quite dangerous particularly if you have a suitcase in your hand. There are lifts though. The food is fresh and delicious

We selected this hotel for closeness to historic city center and the architecture. This is a very old building, expect uneven floors and uneven hallways with stairs in them. Moving your luggage about is a challenge. This hotel is used by bus companies, so quite busy in the mornings and late afternoon. So personalized service is dropped by the way side. Our room was large and comfortable. We enjoyed the closeness to restaurants and city center. We stayed for two nights. It was okay for that time period. Given the picture of the outside, we were disappointed by the inside.

This hotel has got lots of character. The staff are amazing and the food is good.
I did find the room to be excellent however it was a little noisy outside with the traffic which died down around 11:pm
The hotel is vast with lots of little corridors and stirs may not be ideal of you in a wheelchair however it does have a lift I would still recommend staying here

Not so much a hotel as an experience. This hotel is a unique and fabulous place, the town centre is on its doorstep with loads of cafes and wee shops, the fabulous museum 2 minutes away ditto concert hall, theatre, and riverside walks.
Above all that (and the comfy rooms, breathtaking dining room) are the staff.
Everyone is friendly and professional, nothing is too much trouble. They are all are helpful above and beyond.
A special thank you from me to Kirsty on the front desk and Monika in the dining room, you wouldn't know how important you were to me.
So, just GO, if you want something that's not a bog-standard travel-hotel the Salutation will be a delight.
