A comfortable and affordable cottage in a peaceful and scenic location but within easy reach of Oban and many tourist attractions. Spacious kitchen with a good sized fridge/freezer (which reached the right temperature very quickly after being switched on) and loads of counter space. Separate dining area plus an additional table in the living room. Very spacious living room furnished with a view to comfort and character, rather than a sterile modern look. Enclosed gardens front and back and big area of decking, perfect for sitting out in nice weather. I agree with the previous reviewer that a shower in the main bathroom would be nice, but this is not the first cottage we've stayed in that didn't have one. Bed, while not generous, was very comfortable - unusual in my experience of holiday cottages (I generally take an inflatable mattress to put on the bed, after several holidays characterised by an aching body from hard and lumpy mattresses). Owner easy to reach by email and very responsive. We loved Ardross and I hated to leave at the end of our holiday.

This cottage is in a lovely location but it is overpriced. For the money we paid we expected high quality fixtures and fittings, but the kitchen is poorly equipped and if we had been a party of 6 we'd have struggled to find enough glasses and bowls of the same size.

The owner failed to contact us to give us instructions beforehand as promised, and was quite snippy with me when I phoned the evening before to ask where they were (we had paid the balance of our payment a full month before, but she made it obvious that she thought that we were at fault somehow).

The instructions themselves were not up to date or complete - instructions about how to turn the heating on was given, but there was no mention of where the thermostat was (and we spent a long time wondering why nothing was heating up before realising that it was turned down to 11 degrees - hmmm, that's a way to save money!).

We were also instructed to fully clean the cottage before we left - something we do not expect to be asked (of course, we would make sure not to walk mud through the house, but being told to fully clean the kitchen and vacuum throughout before leaving was a bit much, we felt). All in all we did not feel welcome.

Perfect Setting, Wonderful Views.
Looking out to the Atlantic in a peaceful setting with lovely garden & wildlife.
Spacious accommodation, comfortable & good facilities with everything you need.
An eclectic mix of art & furnishings making it feel homely & cozy.
Although we didn't need them the hot water bottles were a nice touch.
I would highly recommend a stay here. And hope to stay again in the future. Thank you

Excellent location and plenty of room to move around. It's true that some features are a bit dated but this did not detract from the overall appearance of the cottage. The main picture window was slightly misted due to a failing seal but the owner emailed to inform us of this and during our stay a joiner came to see to this and to measure up for alterations to also vastly increase the window expanse so for future visitors will see a big improvement in what is already a very exceptional view from the living room. I think that the price of a week's stay at Ardross is very reasonable given the prices of neighbouring properties. Facilities in the property were perfectly adequate for a holiday. Another viewer mentioned poor reception for the TV. We didn't have the TV on much but the problem was easily rectified by cutting back a few leaves from the wisteria which were obscuring the satellite dish. I agree that it seems odd to ask that the fridge freezer be turned off on departure but maybe this is because there is often no visitors coming in the next week. Perhaps this could be sorted by the local cleaner switching it off when this is the case rather than asking each visitor/group to do this.
Overall however, we would all agree that Ardross is a lovely base to stay to explore the local area and enjoy the evenings with such a fabulous view.

The house in question here is Ardross, Isle of Seil. Where to start? A well situated bungalow in a pleasant garden overlooking the tidal waters that go under the Bridge over the Atlantic. Rather dated however and poorly presented. Fridge freezer off for our arrival in spite of the owner having been there just before us; not convenient when you have a car load of thawing food from local supermarket. Also not clean enough to put said food straight into. Kitchen bin had no lid and we were told people didn’t seem to need one! Kitchen cupboards had lining papers of dubious vintage, and dead flies. The dishwasher had no cutlery basket and the lower element was so distorted that the lower washing arm didn’t work and things weren’t washed. Spacious kitchen, dining and living rooms but less so for beds. The house sleeps 6 but there was only 1 shower, and that was in an en-suite, also 1 pillow per person and no additional ones. No extra blankets. Bedding very tired and the bottom fitted sheet on our bed was marked, so we swapped it for one from another bed, there being no spares. The owner said she had noticed the mark when she made up the bed but left it anyway!!
There were instructions for the washing machine but it was locked away not for visitors use. And most annoyingly the TV just wouldn’t work on anything but BBC1. We were in email contact with the owner during our stay and while she responded she didn’t or couldn’t help. Not sure why a local cleaning person could not have been asked to assist. Overall very disappointing.

Good location and views and peaceful and when chilly warms up quickly with the central heating but also open fire helps which i enjoy.I have stayed there a couple of times as i like the area and the scenery, and the wildlife comes into the garden, small deers which just turn up and just settle down as if they owned the place.A pleasent drive into Oban when shopping needed and the pubs on Seil are also very good for drink and food,i myself enjoy the walk to either, the Oyster Bar in Ellenibeich is slighty further away but is my preferred watering hole.On the whole a very enjoyable place to stay.
