😊: They cancelled our booking on less than 24hr notice. We spent a long time planning our trip to Halifax. It was a reunion with a friend who was travelling up from Kent. We booked this accommodation a couple of months in advance and spent a long time choosing the right place in the right location, where we could both have our own room..
😢: We received a call on Friday (we were due to arrive on Saturday) to say that there had been a mistake made and we couldn't have both rooms. The blame was placed on Booking.com. They claimed that they hadn't been able to see the booking for two rooms (but could now) and had booked out the second room we required. When asked why our booking wasn't been honoured and the later booking cancelled, they stated that they didn't have the other customer's details so had to cancel ours. The choice I was provided with was to either share a room and double bed with my male friend or cancel. I had to cancel my entire trip to Halifax because I wasn't able to get two rooms on such short notice. They stated that they had been in a similar situation a couple of weeks before with another customer, who had booked two rooms. I have noticed that there's another similar review to this too. It was an unacceptable situation and it ruined our plans (not forgetting the wasted money in train fare from Kent to Halifax)..

Visited places & family in Halifax today.
The Shears Inn came highly recommended.
We had 2 carverys, all home made & tasted delicious 😋
The Staff was so accommodating, even though we hadn't booked.
We would highly recommend to anyone.
We will visit again.

Came for food after a recommendation on Facebook. From the moment we walked in, we knew the food was going to be amazing, it smelt like home cooked food and we passed a couple eating a giant slice of pie each lol I got the light bite beef wrap which was just out of this world! The beef was tender and fell apart, the wrap was the right type of crispy and the gravy was just gorgeous. I had to bat my partners hand away from the gravy!
They are not joking when they say it’s proper homemade food and proper portions!!
He got a pig burger which was huge with home made chips, I didn’t have a taste of the burger but my partner said it was good!

Will defo be coming back here with our little one as the kids menu looks good and also well priced!

We didn’t stay in the room but had to give it 5* anyway!

Came for food as a last minute plan. The plan being to have a small lunch and then for me to make a late roast dinner for tea. Well, that went out of the window as soon as we sat down to look at menu.

First of all, this pub looks how pubs used to look (and should look imo). Low ceilings, wooden beams, wall lights. Such a lovely atmosphere and welcoming of families for food. And the whole pub smelt of delicious food!!!

We both got a burger. it was huge and delicious. All meat were decent cuts and cooked to perfection! They have a sign saying everything was homemade and made to order... TRUE STORYYYYY!!! This was by far the nicest pub meal I've eaten in a long time and I'd go as far as to say that the pricing doesn't actually reflect how delicious the food actually is. The chips were TO DIE FORRRRR!!

Cannot wait to go back and try the roast dinner, sausage and mash and every thing else on the menu 😊

Excellent couple of pints of Timmy Taylors Landlord whilst on a walk with the dog. The bar staff were very friendly and even brought some water out for the dog which was much appreciated.

Terrible meal, covered in a thick salty gravey, so bad I could hardly recognise anything else on the plate.
I was visiting with friends and had a braided beef meal.
The greeting was good but it went down hill thereafter, nobody even asked us if we enjoyed our meal or made any communication to any of us.
Unbelievable place, the worse place in Yorkshire, how does it keep open.
A waste of time and money visiting your establishment, do not eat here.

Absolutely amazing quirky little pub, tucked away at the side of the canal. The staff were super friendly and the food was 😋 delicious, the portions are mahooosive but still great value for money….. I would definitely recommend paying this little gem a visit…I’ll definitely be back 🥰

Nice accidental find and am amazed its still open. Didn't eat here but perhaps I'll try on another visit. Lots of history yo the place and surrounding buildings. Nice place to be out of the way and relaxe.
