Clean, well appointed room with all you needed for short stay. Staff all extremely friendly and helpful, resolving any issues effortlessly.
Great choice of food and drink. Quality and quantity was excellent too. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

We stayed here twice during our trip to visit family. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was really good, we ordered full English and they let us have the continental breakfast buffet. We had Carvery twice for dinner because we liked them so much. Gammon was just melt in my mouth. Beef and turkey were very tender as well. Sufficient parking, and they have well kept playground for guest with kids and nice outdoor seating area that no doubt would be nice on summer. Great stay!

Visited a few times as central for many interesting places and only 2mins off m6. Easily accessible. Staff friendly. Good choice of food for breakfast and main menu. Hotel room very comfortable and all you need is there

Very disappointed, wonderful write up on how dog friendly you are. Well that's not so.
I telephoned to book a table in the bar area, told no bookings in the bar, first come first served.
We were meeting friends and so we arranged for midday. Bar area had a table with a reserve notice. I enquired about the reservation told it was for a booking with a dog.
Bar area, poorly decorated and equipped certainly more tables and chairs could be provided. All high stools and the only table for four was on stools around a beer barrel. Certainly not appropriate for eating from.
Bar staff more interested in talking to each others than engaging with customer's

Recently dined at this venue with four children food was good however after getting home I was informed that children eat foe £1 offer was currently on, I paid full price. When I called back to ask I was told you only get it if you ask for it so was not entitled for the offer surely this is a breach of trade descriptions.

The Spread Eagle is reasonable for an overnight stop, which is what was required by us, as we had business to deal with in the area. However there are a few things that should most definitely be improved, without adding very much to the cost of running the Guest House side of the Spread Eagle.
Firstly, there could be a few more basic amenities made available for the guest in the rooms.
There was no telephone, which made it difficult to contact reception if there was a need. Whilst I realise that everyone has mobiles, this doesn't mean that everyone has the Spread Eagle contact details immediately available to phone for help if they need it.
Phones for internal use should be provided in the rooms.
Secondly (and not at all funny), the toilet paper provided for use in the rooms is not fit for its intended purpose. I wish I did not have to mention a subject such as this, but this is one item that absolutely needs an upgrade, ASAP. It was almost impossible to use, it is so thin and fragile. This is not the way to treat your guests. There has to be better quality paper that can be ordered, without costing that much extra.
Thirdly, I appreciate that the accommodation is only meant to be basic and that you want to keep costs to a minimum, but there does need to be one or two more items in the rooms provided for guests. As example, disposable shower caps, which usually come in an individual packet with a hair band so that hair can be tied back.
At the very least it should be known that items such as this, (and also combs, hand cream, shampoo/conditioner for example), are available from reception if necessary. (Probably for a small extra cost). If anyone is needing to stop overnight on the off chance, without knowing in advance, then some guests could arrive without having these provisions on them. So it needs to be made known that these items are available for a small cost from reception, if necessary.
As far as the toilet paper is concerned you cannot compromise to the extent that you have on this. This needs to be upgraded, in order to be useable.
We had to go to the toilets in the bar area and get what paper we could from there to take back to the room. This is not an acceptable thing for guests to have to do.
On the plus side:
The breakfast was absolutely excellent, and we really enjoyed it. The Spread Eagle is excelling itself in this area. The breakfast was cooked to order - wonderful - and it was fresh and delicious.
Please do not downgrade the breakfasts in anyway, the food and service is excellent as it is.

Lovely rooms and very comfy, good service and nice busy pub area, breakfast was just ok, not very good bacon or black pudding but still nice service and good coffee, air con does a loud noise now and again throughout the night but probably just our room, nice staff aswell
