Booked a two day, last minute stay at St. Anne's as the weather forecast looked good, and we weren't disappointed in that respect. The price we were offered was ÂŖ75 per night, including breakfast, which I felt at peak season (mid August) was exceptional value. ||Car parking is offered on site on a first come, first served basis, but there is also lots of free street parking directly across the road if needed. ||St. Anne's is listed as dog friendly, and that's exactly what you should expect, as the owners have at least three of their own. Previous reviews that we read included gripes about the dogs being around the breakfast tables, but we had no such problem (one wandered in one morning, but quickly left again), so I'm guessing that either the problem was a one-off, or the owners have addressed that issue. Either way, we didn't have any such problem with that (and we're not pro-dogs). ||That's not to say we had no issues at all - our first being actually finding the place. The address is given as Norfolk Square, but on entering the Postcode to our Sat-Nav it came up with Albermarle Road. Stupidly, I corrected this and we set off in search of the elusive Norfolk Square, only to end up in Wellesly Road. Where we stopped, we found a green sign on a gate that said Norfolk Square, but there was no vehicular access. So I rang the hotel and was directed back to Albermarle Road (sigh) đ¤. ||It seems to me that if the front door is on Albermarle Road, then the address ought to be Albermarle Road too, wouldn't you agree? Anyway, it seems that all the properties along Albermarle Road are addressed as Norfolk Square, so I guess it's a Norfolk thing? All the same, it seems pretty stupid to me đ ||The room was definitely budget, as we are used to three or four star, but as I said, we booked on the spur of the moment and this was all we could find for our dates. Everything you would expect was provided, and in truth our only real complaints were the space available, and the bathroom facilities. ||The room itself was a reasonable size (we've definitely stayed in smaller) but the en-suite didn't include the hand basin - that was outside the E.S. in the main bedroom. This meant that getting up in the night to use the loo you would have to wake your partner to wash your hands. ||Also, the shower was quite cramped, and there was no door - just a plastic curtain held in place on a makeshift curtain wire. This itself was poorly positioned, effectively wasting over 20% of the tiny shower cubicle space, which meant that the wet curtain was clinging to our arms and legs as we were trying to wash. Dropping the soap in the shower proved quite an issue too, as there was little space to bend and pick it up without knocking the tap off with your b*m đ. Also, while showering, the water would frequently run cold, and as this was a 'plumbed' shower, this had to be caused by unbalanced pressure - All in all, a fairly frustrating experience. We wondered how someone less agile might have coped, and we were thankful that our stay was only for a couple of nights. ||The bed wasn't particularly comfortable, but that was probably more noticeable because the sunny climate made room rather warm, which made it quite difficult to sleep. We had a fan too, which we left on all night, but still didn't help much. ||The last gripe was the fact that there was no wardrobe - just a rail supported under a shelf in the corner, that had some coat hangers on it - not even a curtain to mask it off from the room. Sadly disappointing, but in truth there wouldn't have been much space for a wardrobe anyway - and not much drawer space either, so most of our clothes stayed in our suitcases. ||Tea and coffee facilities were standard, but sadly no hot chocolate or decaffeinated coffee available (although to be fair I didn't ask for this as I usually bring my own). ||An unexpected bonus, was a small fridge provided in the room, which made cold water in the night all the more refreshing. ||Two breakfast sittings of 08:00 to 08:45 and 09:00 to 09:45 ensured that the breakfast wasn't too crowded - selections being, made the night before. The breakfast was of good quality, and the hosts (who were at all times both friendly and helpful) seemed happy to provide just what the guest wanted. ||All in all, a perfectly acceptable stay for the price. A pity about a few minor gripes, which in truth wouldn't take much to fix.
