I had a room booked at OYO star hotel leicester for months for the radio 2 festival in leeds. A day before arrival they cancelled my booking with no explanation just said due to unforeseen circumstances. Long story short they offered me no alternative and I had to cancel my trip. To add insult to injury I checked my booking and they had marked me as a no show so charged me full Ā£150 for the stay. I eventually got the refund through booking.com after over an hour on the phone. I wouldnā€™t trust them or OYO as far as I could throw them. Blessing in disguise I didnā€™t stay really in hindsight looking at the other reviews

It's a shame you cannot give this establishment 0 stars. We arrived here to a rude receptionist, who offered us a room (which we had prebooked, stupidly) that was tiny, dirty, smelling of vinegar and smoke, with no towels or handwash/shampoo. It was also incredibly cold. In the morning a member of staff walked into our room at 8.30am telling us to check out. We had been told checkout was at 11am. I wouldn't wish a stay here upon my worst enemy, it was horrible from the beginning to the end.

The staff were friendly and polite, though the loud TV downstairs running through to what seemed like midnight at least could be a problem for some people. On arrival we were informed that there was no hot water. There were no signs to indicate we got to the right place, everyting felt hugely dated, especially the rooms, with worn brown carpet, what seemed like second or third hand beds. Fresh pillows and duvets, but the bedding was not of a typical hotel quality. Pillows were mismatched and uneven, and only one pillow per person. One chair, no TV, no bedside table or bedside lamp. Toilet seat was broken, bath generally dirty, and polystyrene cups to make a drink if you would like. There was a single size duvet cover on a king size duvet, and the cover itself was ripped. It's heart breaking to leave such a bad review, but hopefully it gives the owners an indication of what to look at, because you can see from everything they're doing, they're really trying, it's definitely a work in progress. It's a comfortable place to stop in if you're looking for no frills, cheap as chips accomodation.

Welcome reception and staff were pleasant. I stayed in room 3 and for the price paid it's fine. My main bugbear was that there was no mattress protector that I could find. Rooms are basic and furnished simply. The bathroom was done to a good standard and clean. Mattress is old so don't expect a good sleep if you're fussy. I'd happily stay here again at the price paid if I'm working in the area.

I had a room booked at the nearby ( 9 miles away ) OYO Shilton, but had a call mid-morning informing me that due to a problem with the electrics, they could no longer accommodate me and had reserved a room at the Star.||||I ( very mistakenly ) assumed that it was of a comparable standard. The place looked grubby and run down from the outside.||||I was tired so checked in and went to the room, even though there was no breakfast available. No wifi, no TV, a badly stained carpet, a blind that did not fit the window. A very spartan room, though the bedding and towels looked clean. ||||I informed reception staff that I would not be staying as not comparable to the hotel booked. There was total disinterest from the receptionist. Was told that I would be refunded through the booking company. ||||This did not happen. The booking company was unable to get confirmation of the refund after 2 attempts.||||I then wasted at least an hour, through the appalling OYO customer service phone line. Useless menu system and dropped calls. Eventually got there via the OYO web chat service.

DO NOT STAY HERE!
Venue has a completely different name to what was advertised on the website I booked on.
They take illegal copies of your ID on arrival for ā€œpolice purposesā€ what they donā€™t tell you is they do not comply with GDPR and they store this information indefinitely instead of destroying it like they should.
Room was dated, disgustingly dirty and tiny.
Itā€™s advertised they have Air Conditioning but they donā€™t even have windows you can open when itā€™s 30 degrees outside let alone providing you with a fan, but itā€™s ok because they have fans to keep themselves cool behind the reception desk.
Oh and I hope you like people being able to just walk into your room because the rooms donā€™t have door latches or locks that work properly!
