We’ve stayed several times before it’s basic but food is good staff always been great sadly this time was different a few days back I received an email clearly stating check in from 2 pm. We arrived at 2:30 to be told it’s 3pm, I produced the mentioned email to be greeted with a curt it’s wrong !!! My check in sheet was on the desk for goodness sake any way we returned and a pleasant staff member checked us in and directed us to room six the key fob didn’t open the door so I tried the handle see pic clearly we were supposed to be room nine not going well but never mind . We returned around 10pm and unfortunately the noise from room 10 was so loud the volume control must have been broken if I’d wanted to watch big brother I would I’ve no idea what time it ceased but not a great visit this time unusual for me to review like this but the rudeness of our initial attempt to check in set the tone

I previously stayed here 10 years ago. I’m pleased to say that the hotel has kept its charm and character. It is a good, no nonsense hotel and not a soulless corporate copycat. All of the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. I will always give an honest review, therefore here are my criticisms and observations. The room was clean and recently decorated, however the en-suite bathroom did come across as being tired, the mattress was a little hard the the pillows quite thin. Breakfast, the waitress was very polite and friendly and we were served coffee very quickly and given a menu, the menu is very good, but the service was quite slow, the coffee went cold and there was no sign of the waitress coming to take our order, the table next to ours was not cleared. I waited for 15 minutes and was running out of time before I needed to leave so I decided to leave, I told the manager at reception that I was not happy and he persuaded me to stay promising a speedy breakfast. Once seated at the same table he cleared the table next to mine, and took the order. I did ask for my egg to be well done, but when it arrived it was undercooked, he quickly rectified this and the breakfast was very good.
In summary, the hotel is good, but not perfect, the staff are very friendly and helpful, they dealt with me and my complaint very well and quickly. I would return.
I hope that this review is helpful and hope that the hotel view it and my criticisms as constructive.

We stayed at the weekend for 1 night, as a friend was getting married locally.|As a group we booked 3 double bedrooms. |On arrival there is plenty of parking, reception and bar area are welcoming and the staff are friendly. |This hotel has some good points, but the rooms are below standard. |Looking at all 3 rooms, you can see some effort has been made to upgrade the rooms, ours was decorated nicely, but the bathrooms are awful! Old, grubby, and awful shower over bath running from taps. |The carpets all need replacing, and our room was so hot!! Even with window wide open. Air con would be needed. |Blinds let in all the lights, and some thought needs to be put into this. |I have given them 3 stars, but really it should be 2 for rooms, and 4 for the bar, breakfast and the friendly staff. ||Look into other hotels in the area. We would not return.

I wish I had read the Tripadvisor reviews before I booked a suite (room 34). The gist I picked up from the reviews after we left was that the rooms were dire but the food was great, which was our experience. We were shown up to our "suite" which was at the top of the building. I had specifically asked that we had a walk in shower as we are elderly. There was a separate toilet in a small cubby hole with a sliding door but no wash hand basin. Next to it was the "bathroom" which had a bath, with a hand held shower fitting but no shower curtain because you could not stand up due to the sloping ceiling! I said that this was not acceptable, and a man with a beard who I believe was the manager went out of his way to find us an alternative room, which he did after a loing wait, so a plus point to him. The room we were allocated (room 32) was adequate in that it had a small walk-in shower, although you had to move around to get wet as the shower was so inadequate. The bed, which was supposed to be a double, was just a 4'6" bed with the hardest, most uncomfortable mattress i have ever tried to sleep on. It was a good thing we took our own pillows because the ones provided were old, flat and hard. After a very poor night we went down to breakfast, which was generous and well cooked. I asked for some marmalade for the toast only to be told that they did not do marmalade!!! That would not happen even at Fawlty Towers. We decided that we would not stay the second night. We used the room during the day so when I said we were checking out early I did say that I would expect to pay for the second day even if we did not sleep over. To his credit, the manager said that they would not charge us for the second day and would make a reduction for the first day. He said it would take a day or two to show on my credit card account so it will be interesting to see what happens. He explained that they were in a refurbishment programme but none of those rooms were available when I booked. this may account for the few good reviews of the room I read on Tripadvisor. Finally, just a few words about the dinner we had on our first night. Really excellent! so credit where credit is due. Beautifully cooked and presented with nice service.

Room carpets were marked and looked dirty, bed base had seen better days and was worn were hoover had been rubbed against it over many years, bathroom toilet brush was in a disgusting state, Sunday night and bar had closed at 830 in the evening not what u want when on holiday. Day of arrival was told no meals available on the afternoon and would have to wait till the evening. Real shame this hotel is really run down. Kettle available in room but for some strange reason on my second day the maid had removed the cups from the room. Only good thing was the breakfast, which didn’t make up for the general state of the corridors and room.

Booked 2 nights while visiting the Shuttleworth Collection because of the proximity, but the stay added so much more value than expected. The staff were wonderfully lovely - I regretfully did not get any names, but we had such pleasant interactions with everyone, especially the man we spoke to on check-in, and the woman who served breakfast Saturday morning; they were so incredibly warm and welcoming.

The room was perfectly clean and comfortable, and surprisingly quiet despite being right in the town centre.

The breakfast was lovely, cooked perfectly and service was perfect throughout our stay.

We would happily return again.

Ok for a night or two, but the hotel is a bit tired.
Breakfast provision is poor with only fixed menu and no usual buffet.
Gluten free provision poor and had to be requested, so little choice for us coeliacs.

Stayed in here for work a few times due to gaffer , honestly no go . My room was freezing lit the heater on didn’t work , stayed a full week didn’t once have my stuff changed now I one to moan or do this but the biggest thing is there’s a dress code in the bar. Bloke told me I canrt order a 2 drinks to take to my room while wearing a 2004 arsenal shirt and a pair of tie coloured shorts then refused to take my 20 pound note because he wanted card . Least face it working lads stay there because of the price and your come gordan Ramsey style approach will sink this place and tbh I heard z person talk to his staff like dogs
