We often travel overseas and this has been one of our nicest accommodations. The superior cottage was spacious, spotlessly clean, well appointed, modern with a historic charm. It is rare to find 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The staff were welcoming and professional. 20 min walk to the centre of charming Bury St Edmunds. We would highly recommend this hotel

This review is for one of the two bedroom cottages. Rooms 15 & 16.

The cottage has a full kitchen with a 4 person dining table. A couch with two chairs (that I was a bit hesitant to sit on as they looked like they would make me smell like grandma). The upstairs has two separate bedrooms. One with an attached bath. The other has a bath in the hall.

The pros:
- solid walls and doors so limited noise from outside your room in room 16. However I can hear the tv quite clearly from the other cottage while in room 15.
- comfy bed with enough pillows to make a fort
- great water pressure and heat in the shower. The detached bathroom feels like it could use a deep clean, especially the back of the door. Attached bath was cleaner.
- kitchen has all the amenities (excluding consumables like cooking oil)
- Made to order breakfast
- Some parking
- Short walk to the city centre
- super nice staff
- daily maid service
- strong fans provided
- lovely garden area

The cons:
- they turn down your room even if you lock the door. I suppose you could ask reception to not do that. (Apparently there is a do not disturb sign, but one of the rooms did not have it).
- sinks have amazing water pressure (which may splash your clothes when you first turn it on)
- stairs are narrow heel-to-toe so you must be careful
- spider webs are not cleared out near the windows or entryway
- the alley is quite narrow to get into the car park and visibility is a bit limited when leaving
- could use a luggage stand. Like one that folds up when not in use
- both washing machines in the main building smell like wet dog and one of them is moldy. Even after using the dryer, my clothes still smell like the washing machine.

It's an absolutely beautiful, cozy and relaxing hotel.
The staff were very welcoming and kind.
Everything was convenient and beautifully done.
A really lovely breakfast and everything was clean and well presented.
The only thing I would say is the curtains do leave large gaps, but I would only be not picking.
It was only for one night, but it had been a really lovely stay.

This was our second stay at the Abbey Hotel and we were very satisfied. Our trip got off to a bad start with a nine hour delay (Ryanair!) I telephoned the hotel to say we would be late and they were very helpful saying a late arrival wasn´t a problem. We ended up arriving at 3am and were still given a warm welcome and shown straight to our room. The hearty full English breakfast the next day set us up for a good day after just a few hours sleep. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff are cheerful and helpful. Thanks for your flexibility!

We stayed one night at this very quirky but fabulous hotel. We had a very warm welcome from a lovely lady on arrival, I’m sorry I can’t remember her name, and she also served us breakfast in the morning. Our room was quirky but very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was cooked to order and really really great. We will definitely stay here again.

A group of 9 of us stayed while on a walking holiday of the area. Lovely comfortable rooms. Very clean. Staff friendly and did everything to make our stay a great experience. Very good breakfast with a large selection of food. Couldn’t fault anything. Walking distance to the brewery and a very good selection of pubs and restaurants . Would definitely recommend and would stay again if in the area.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Abbey Hotel. Quinton was always on hand for advice on where to eat etc. such lovely staff. The lovely lady at breakfast - sorry we didn’t catch her name - was so welcoming too every morning. Breakfast was beautiful and cooked to order. We will be back in the area and look forward to staying at the Abbey Hotel again soon.

This is a slightly quirky but thoroughly delightful hotel within easy walking distance of the town. We stayed for 3 nights in a junior suite and had a really pleasant stay. Room was very comfortable with plenty of room to relax in comfortable chairs. Clearly a lot of work has gone into making an old beamed building suitable for modern living. Power points everywhere, extremely efficient heating, lovely hot water and a comfortable bed.||Cooked breakfast was really good. Very obvious food was cooked to order and not taken from a hot plate . As good a hotel breakfast as we have had anywhere. Staff could not have been more friendly.||Bury St Edmunds is a really nice town and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.
