The Almonry has been recently taken over by new management and in turn they have renovated/decorated. What was a slightly tired cafe now has a fresh new vibe. On arrival the manager greeted us. Because both my friend and I showed interest in the new decoration etc, he happily showed us around which was lovely. It was a beautiful sunny day, so we chose a table in the garden seating area where the view of the cathedral is second to none. We were there for tea, cake & catchup and on the managers recommendation chose Lemon Drizzle cake which was delicious. I will definitely go back to eat lunch one day and the menu looked lovely with lots of lunch time choices!

Excellent location, conveniently situated just off the market Square in Ely, with a good view of the cathedral from the garden. The tea room upstairs (on the ground floor) is cute but has very limited seating. Downstairs is much more spacious & atmospheric. Food was very tasty & surprisingly filling with a good selection of options and daily specials available.

Really enjoyed our morning cappuccino and scone, and went back later for lunch. The quiche, salad, and a side order of chips was lovely. Welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and well priced.

The best gluten free afternoon tea I have ever had, great selection of soft bread sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche and crisps, unfortunately I forgot to take a photo but I did get a photo of the cakes, plenty of tea and coffee, plus water, the staff were very attentive and lovely, doggy bags also provided 😂

Got to be one of the most beautiful cafés I've ever been in, marvelous architecture but feels very contemporary. Service friendy & outstanding. Food was also very good although we only had sandwiches. I would definitely return.

The Almonry is the official café and restaurant attached to Ely Cathedral, and is located within the cathedral's grounds (behind the building). It's small, picturesque café that you can relax at after a visit to this magnificent church. Seating out- and inside is limited, so during peak times you'll probably have to queue for a while to get in. It seems easier to find a table outside, if you're willing to deal with the wasps in the garden, of which there are many. There's a board that warns you of that at the entrance to the café. I found this to be no issue at all, but if you're allergic, avoid the garden. The food menu is mainly confined to various cold and warm sandwiches, which aren't exactly cheap, but good. I had the "Pulled Pork Brioche Burger", which was nice, and it came with a side salad and a dollop of sour apple jam, which greatly added to the flavour of the burger (It's served separately). Yo can also pick from a variety of desserts. Generally good and very friendly service. If you're a beer lover, you're out of luck though: Only a bottle of the dreaded Sharpe's Doom Bar is on the menu.
