Great place to meet up with family from across the Uk! Stayed 1 night, very relaxing atmosphere, clean tidy rooms, good pressure in the shower, good food evening meal and breakfast! Bar was a little understaffed as there was a lot of people there on arrival but the young bar tender managed this well. Lovely place to sit and catch up! Bonus with the spitfire taking a flight and a trip around the museum!

We stayed here for one night as it was extremely convenient for an event at the adjoining airfield site. Firstly, it is worth noting that if using satellite navigation, for location, the hotel shares the postcode with other local activities and we initially arrived at a closed airfield main entrance - where the hotel is listed! We gained the impression that this issue was quite common. Use of the address as well may be useful. On arrival we were given the option of leaving a deposit of £100 on a credit card to cover drinks/meals etc. costs during our stay or paying as we incurred charges. We opted for the deposit, but I made sure that I received an itemised bill and was only charged actual costs prior to departure. For simplicity, if visiting in future, I would probably pay for each purchase separately. The hotel is made up of two buildings, one having reception, bar and restaurant, with accommodation in the other, on the opposite of the car park. Originally being a WW2 Pilot's Clubhouse and Officer's Mess, both buildings have many great art deco period features. The rooms are a reasonable size with simple decoration and furnishings, many in art deco style. There is no lift for the first floor. Our comfortable stay and experience would encourage us to book here again.

We were let down by booking. com with our original booking, so we booked this in the fly, and we're so glad we did. |There's a lovely 1920s vibe to the buildings and rooms. |The staff were very welcoming and chatty. |The rooms are large and airy, the beds are comfy, and the showers are hot and have good pressure. |There is wifi and in room tea/coffee facilities. Also ample parking. |Breakfast was tasty, and we were offered fresh hash browns, which we accepted happily. |We would definitely stay again.

While visiting family in the area, The Aviator Sywell was a convenient hotel for us to stay for three nights. The hotel offers relatively competitive prices and is a good choice for those looking for something easy with no thrills. The hotel is styled with an ‘Art Deco’ theme related to the history of aviation. Although this wasn’t quite to our taste, I can see many people enjoying this- especially those with an interest in the history of flight.
Upon the booking the staff were efficient, if not overly warm or friendly- likewise with the member of the staff on the bar.
The outside area offers a pleasant area to enjoy a drink and watch the planes arrive and depart.
Unfortunately, one evening we arrived back after 11pm and were locked out of the hotel gates, requiring a phone call to the night porter. This isn’t mentioned in the guest handbook or by the staff when booking in. We feel the addition of a simple sign on the front gate, with a phone number to ring if the gates are closed would be beneficial to guests. The night porter explained that this was for security of guests’ vehicles, which is understandable, but needs to be communicated more clearly.
The nights’ sleep was satisfactory although the movement of other guests around the hotel and in their rooms can be heard. Not a major issue but not the quietest hotel we’ve stayed in. Clearly, this is also guest dependent.
The Aviator gets the basic right but never really goes beyond that. If you’re looking for a cheap, easy hotel for 1-3 nights in the area, give it try.

What a fabulous, stylish hotel. Rooms are a very good size for a very reasonable price. The staff are excellent - very polite and attentive. Rooms are showing their age a little but they are spotlessly clean so no complaints. Breakfast is very good and well worth the price. The location means that unless you are attending an event at the airfield you'll need to drive or get a taxi to pubs, bars and restaurants etc. The receptionist was incredibly helpful in ordering a couple of taxis for our group. Will certainly stay here again if I'm in the area.

Fresh from a holiday break, therefore still in the holiday spirit and also with it also being a lovely sunny day, my wife and I decided to go to lunch. We went to the Aviator at Sywell. We sat outside, which was a pleasant ‘plus’ to the afternoon and the meal was fine. The trouble was the people running it who were quite aggressive. I wanted two liquor coffees, something we had got into doing on holiday. I said to the barman “I don’t suppose you do liquor coffees at lunchtime do you?” to which he said “No.” I went back to my wife and she asked for a rum instead. I went back to the bar when I noticed a big chalk sign advertising liquor coffee! I said, “I was going to ask for a rum but now I see that you do liquor coffees, I will have two of those!” He said that he would bring them to me and did I want a receipt. I said “yes,” (for I had not received anything yet). Looking at the time on the receipt later I realised that 30 minutes had passed so I set off for a refund due to the drinks not having arrived within a reasonable time. I got the coffees in the end but it had been a battle. When we left the manager walked straight past us without asking if we had enjoyed our meal or anything, (to my knowledge he was not aware of the coffee incident and was just rude). Nice meal, nice location but why the attitude?

Lovely friendly staff and such a lovely example of the Art Deco era in both the restaurant buildings and the newer hotel building. |Great beer too. Food in restaurant well cooked and tasty.|Will visit again on a leisure basis.|It's also worth a visit to the museum next door when open.

I stayed solo for two nights in September whilst attending an event. This was my second visit.||There may well be a problem with directions, but by using a little old fashioned nous rather than relying totally on GPS it’s relatively easily found.||As per the description the style is art deco, which was a very clever way to re-style what must have previously been a pretty boring building, complete with ‘Crittal’ windows. The wood panelled and WW2 aviation themed ‘club house’ atmosphere in the reception, bar and restaurant areas was very pleasant and welcoming.||Plenty of parking.||Despite it being a very busy ‘event’ weekend, all staff were friendly and efficient.||Rooms are of a decent size, simple but clean , comfortable and well equipped. Decent bathroom with shower in bath. The rooms facing the road are quite noisy if like me, guests prefer to sleep with the windows open. Ask for a room which doesn’t face the road.||Given the very busy period, the restaurant coped well, with an efficient, but not over bearing ‘Maitre D’ overseeing service. Evening food was up to scratch - however, the buffet style breakfast whilst offering the standard hot items via Bain Maries was a little lacking in variety of the more healthy options. The bar was understandably busy, but a little short staffed.||Overall, once again, decent value and a very good stay.
