Beautiful hotel. Booked for one night. Stayed for three stayed in the Empire suite. Huge room with comfy four poater bed and wonderful views.. Lovely breakfast in a beautiful setting. Easy access to town. Option to pay for parking. Fantastic service and a cheapest drinks in town in a small comfy lounge.. lots of stairs so get the empire room if you have trouble with that.

Our stay at The Ayrlington was very nice. The employees were lovely. The week we were there was unusually hot, and as we were entering the house I realized I hadn’t asked about AC! It did not have any…when we got to our room they had two fans in the room, and when my husband asked for another one, because it was still too warm, the receptionist brought us the one from her office! That is customer service! |Breakfast was delicious. When we needed a cab, they called one for us right away. ||We did upgrade to one of the newer rooms because I had read in some of the reviews about rooms/bathrooms not being updated. The room was lovely and the bathroom very nice.||Would definitely recommend staying there.

We had such a great time at this wonderful guesthouse. The staff were ever so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. They were brilliant on our check in as we had arrived early and wanted somewhere to put our cases.||We were in The Orchid - Superior King room. It was a great size and had a lovely vibe to it. The shower was excellent and the bed comfy. It does have a limited view, but that didn't affect us.||The little lounge and bar area was neat and we enjoyed a couple of Proseccos from there.||Breakfast was amazing, definitely worth having!||Location was fine. It was just a 10 minute walk over the river to get to the centre.||We would stay here again and try another room as they all have different styles!

We booked what was sold as 5 star. When we got there we were in for a shock as the place is 3 star at best. They charged for parking when ad said complimentary and didn't offer evening meal. Do yourself a favour and give this a miss. Its nearish to the centre but you can find much better places a whole lot cheaper

This hotel was a complete nightmare. We are from Kazakhstan, and in our culture, it’s perfectly normal for my husband to have two wives. We have never encountered any issues at hotels worldwide, always booking one room and being treated with respect—until we stayed here. The staff at this place acted like they were some kind of royalty, claiming we were violating 'house rules,' which is clearly just an excuse to rip us off. When we offered to upgrade to a triple room and pay a fair extra fee, they demanded an outrageous £150.

But that wasn’t even the worst part. The staff were extremely rude, treating us with blatant disrespect and obvious prejudice towards our culture and family. This felt like outright discrimination, a shameful lack of respect for diversity. Their hostility and intolerance were shocking. At 11:30 PM, they even came banging on our door, demanding we leave immediately. We told them to call the police if they had a problem, as we were not going anywhere.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the room was in terrible condition. We paid £250 only to stay in a filthy, rundown room that looked nothing like the photos. It was old, poorly maintained, and far from clean—completely unacceptable for what they charge. This was, by far, the worst experience we’ve ever had, with staff who are discriminatory, rude, and unapologetically hostile. I would never recommend anyone stay here. Avoid this place at all costs!

Excellently situated for the centre of Bath, and with parking too. The city was very clean and easy to navigate for our Bridgerton walkabout, which were all within walking distance of the hotel.||We stayed for two nights in the Garden Room and Darwin Room - both beautifully decorated and clean with everything you need. The garden at the rear of the property was peaceful and relaxing with a drink in the evening sun. The breakfasts and service at breakfast were flawless.||Staff are very knowledgeable about the local area, and were so obliging and friendly at all times. Vivienne was an absolute delight, and she makes the best Pimms and Lemonade. Drinks prices in the bar were very very reasonable. Would definitely stay there again whenever we return to Bath.

A Disappointing Experience at the Arlington Hotel in Bath

I recently stayed at the Arlington Hotel in Bath with my partner, lured by its supposed popularity among students and tourists from China, where I’m from. The hotel claims to be five-star, but honestly, it felt like a cheap hostel rather than anything premium. I’ve been to three-star hotels with far better amenities and conditions.

We were looking for a blend of traditional charm and modern comfort, but instead, we found an old building that felt rundown. The staff seemed oblivious to customer service, giving the impression they were there to fulfill a duty rather than make our stay enjoyable.

Our room was cold, with decor that looked like it hadn’t been updated since the 70s. The wallpaper was jarring, and the color schemes felt like they were chosen by an interior designer high on something from the 80s.

To make matters worse, in the middle of the night, we were abruptly disturbed by a staff member who spoke to us in a rude and condescending manner, reminiscent of a prison officer. It felt belittling, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was due to our being Chinese. Despite the hotel profiting from the Chinese community, I plan to share my experience on Asian social media platforms that misled me into booking this place.

For £240 a night for what was labeled a “premium room,” I expected so much more. It turned out to be the most depressing accommodation I’ve ever encountered. My partner paid for the stay, so I tried to hide my disappointment until she expressed that she wished we had chosen a modern place at less than half the price.

During the night, I was kept awake by unsettling scratching noises coming from the walls. At first I believed it to be rats; but the chilling sense of dread that made it impossible to relax, leads me to think is something far worse and unholy.

If you’re looking for a place that feels like a haunted house run by the Gestapo, with terrible interiors, outdated common areas, and freezing rooms, this is the hotel for you. I was embarrassed to share any photos of the place on my Instagram, fearing ridicule. With rates of £240 for the best room and others going for just £70, I can only imagine how much worse the standard rooms must be.

Please avoid this hotel. There are so many better options out there. The only thing I can say in their defense is that the poor service seems to come from the top down. The staff appear to be strictly following “house rules,” which only adds to the oppressive atmosphere. The lady that worked the morning shift was very pleasant and deserves to be at a better hotel . I am sure it was management that insisted that she impose fines for breaking a house rule and demanding £150 and £30 for being 25 mins late for checkout.

If you’ve been misled by a Chinese social platform to consider this hotel, think twice. The embarrassment of not wanting to share any photos of this place says it all.

We have just enjoyed a three night trip to The Ayrlington. It is situated in an ideal position within easy walking distance of all the sites and good parking. We stayed in the Grand suite and what a fabulous room, looking out onto the garden. The hotel was extremely clean and welcoming and the staff team were excellent. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed our lovely cooked breakfasts every day and there was a good selection of juices, fruit pastries and cereals too. Thank you to The Ayrlington team.
