Very comfy beds nice clean rooms which were an adequate size and nice and warm after a day in the storms. The decor was very quirky, but very much mine and my partners style loved the artwork dotted about the building. Breakfast is fantastic, and the host Jonathan is very informative on areas of the city to visit, and a very pleasant host would highly recommend anyone staying here and will be a b& b I will be recommending it to friends and family.

What a wonderfully beautiful hotel! Our daughter bought us a stay here for my husbands birthday and it was lovely, such a pretty place and run by the mist friendly people, great location for sight seeing, would hesitate in recommending the bishop and bison! First class

Excellent Three Night Stay at The Bishop and The Bison. Our first time in York. Jonathan, our host was most welcoming. Made us feel very relaxed. Nothing to much trouble for him. He suggested places to visit and recommended local restaurants. Our Superior Double Room was comfortable, exceptionally clean and was refreshed daily. Breakfast was first class with quality ingredients. We always try and stay in quality small Boutique Hotels - The Bishop and the Bison deserve their high rating - first class for a small boutique hotel with car parking in an excellent quiet location only a leisurely 15mins walk into York Centre. Our stay in York wasn't long enough and we look forward to another visit in the near future and we will most definitely be staying at The Bishop and The Bison.

Wonderful hosts and great location. Very comfortable room. The breakfast was great. I will definitely stay again on my next visit to York. Charming boutique hotel, I felt really safe as a single female traveller being able to walk back to the hotel in the evening on my own.

Lovely B & B providing everything needed and more ! Beautifully decorated with unique style in great area with short walk into York . Fabulous hosts with very warm welcome who provided lots of information about the area - highly recommended .

What a wonderful visit time York! We were simply delighted with the Bishop and the Bison straightaway- starting with the convenience of on site parking. We were warmly greeted by Jonathan, and although we were tired from a day of driving, we took his advice and made the easy 15 minute walk into town to explore. Three nights (and delicious breakfasts) later, we know we must return, if only to have another go at the best omelette I’ve had in my life. Some reviewers groused about the water pressure, which was a bit weak, but not a dealbreaker. Its what I’d expect in a gorgeous historic home such as this. All comforts in place - an excellent base for exploring York.

I had a really lovely stay here. It's near the city centre (ask Jonathan for the best walking route!) but so quiet and with super comfy beds so you'll get a great night's sleep. I had the best selection of vegan breakfast I've found anywhere I've stayed, all freshly prepared. Jonathan went above and beyond as our host and gave great tips on what to see and how to get around the city.

On my 1 month European vacation, this by far was the biggest disappointment. As someone who posts a lot of reviews, I thought I knew how to read through reviews and pick out the real positives and the embellishments. The Bishop and The Bison had all 5 star reviews on every booking site and on Google. The only negative thing I saw while reading all the reviews was someone gave it a three star because they didn’t offer cereal for breakfast. Which, by the way, the breakfast was one of the best parts of staying here. Breakfast was excellent there was a choice of cereal as well as a full Hot cooked to order breakfast.

The hotel is listed as A four star luxury boutique, hotel/bed and breakfast in York. Actually, it’s a 20 minute walk to the city center, which was fine since we like to walk. Jonathan, the owner does his best but is it Luxury… not by any means. When we arrived Jonathan greeted us in his socks. The silk rug in the hallway needed a good cleaning. Bathroom towels were super thin, the shower had no water pressure, the sink in the bathroom clogged while we were here, there was shampoo no conditioner, and there was an inch thick of dust on the leg of the chair.

Did I survive my three days here, yes. Did I feel deceived by all the positive reviews…absolutely. Could a few tweaks make this a real 4 star boutique hotel, yes. So I hope you use the criticism as helpful and please dont get angry because I’m being honest.
