Very disappointing experience indeed. The staff were pleasant enough but attention to detail was totally missing. The food was only average/poor at best and lacked any added wow factor, further, the table top was sticky and had to be re-cleaned, a poor show. My fish and chips was over cooked and utterly tasteless, while the feature Burger could have passed as Lunchen Meat at best. Maybe, just maybe a bad day but unfortunately you are judged on your last performance and this was dreadful. So much potential but failed!!

We stayed for two nights with my mum who is elderly. We were all very comfortable in our rooms and had good nights sleep. Fluffy towels and face cloths, toiletries, tea/ coffee and biscuits replenished daily. Mum’s room had a walk in shower and the stairs were similar to a domestic staircase so she could manage with her reduced mobility. The food for dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent! But the Blue Anchor’s crowning glory is its staff, who were cheerful, friendly, helpful and anticipated every need. We will definitely return to eat and stay overnight again.

Me and my partner often have breakfast here and you won’t find a better breakfast anywhere. You get a decent size and the price is perfect. On top of that the staff are fantastic and the manager is so friendly and accommodating.

As always , a brilliant place to go for a meal with friends. Wonderful food and great service. We hadn’t visited for a while as we live elsewhere now but it was lovely to return and find it still so good. Excellent on all counts.

😊: staff were brilliant. Evening meal excellent with a great menu and fab food..
😢: Room 4 very noisy throughout the night as extractor fans from below were right outside our window, so perhaps that room should be cheaper than others. Also the base of the fan was broken so fan unusable on a hot night (when you cant open the windows due to the noise outside).

Had an Easter roast here today. I was so excited as we came in February and it was amazing. Today, not so much sadly. The meat was good quality, just a little fatty. But the roast potatoes which make a roast in my view, it was so obvious they’d been cooked earlier or the day before and reheated, had that chalky taste. Not crispy at all and not what you’d expect eating a £20 roast in such a nice pub, the veg was hard. Scallop starter was nice though and good cauliflower cheese. It wasn’t nearly as busy as last time we were there so perhaps it’s gone down hill in effort and quality, people are noticing and not wanting to spend their hard earned money. A real shame as it’s a such a nice looking place, won’t be spending here for a good while.

Stayed for 2 nights for a wedding in the area. The pub was lovely, breakfast was delicious, but the staff were by far the highlight. They were all lovely, super helpful and we would definately stay here again!

we went there to try the 6 course taster menu, my old school friend from 60 odd years ago and myself who booked it. Both impressed with the food, friendly staff and venue and will definitely be going back there again.
