It’s a very basic room, nothing fancy but for 60 quid a night you’re not expecting it to be. The staff were amazingly friendly. |Only complaint are the beds, they definitely need a refresh! After a couple of nights they didn’t do my back any favours. |There’s music on but it’s advertised on their pages and all done and dusted by 11pm. |The bar was nice, serve a good pint!

A Disappointing Stay with Many Issues

I arrived at this hotel around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night. On a positive note, the staff were extremely friendly, polite, and very accommodating. I was impressed with how they took the time to explain the fire exits, property access, parking, check-out procedures, and other essential information. Every staff member I interacted with was helpful, but unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.

Room Issues & Cleanliness Concerns

The first major issue was the condition of my initial room. (room 5) The bed was so uncomfortable that I was forced to sleep on the floor. I was moved to another room the next night, which had a much better bed, but this new room had a host of other problems. It was very dirty—there were stains on the sheets and debris on the floor, making it feel unhygienic and uncomfortable. While I don’t normally fuss over minor cleanliness issues, the stains on my sheets I think pushed it just a little bit beyond my comfort zone.. I don't think the fan was particularly enticing either didn't exactly instill me with Confidence..

The television was borderline unusable, displaying strange lines and distorted colors. There was also an intrusive green light by the door that stayed on all night, making it difficult to sleep. Additionally, while the WiFi was free, it was extremely slow and unreliable.

Facilities & Noise Levels

In my first room, the bath panel was missing, making the bathroom look incomplete and neglected. The second was physically ok and everything was an order as in working apart from the TV and the window , but I had no hot water for the first hour, which was frustrating after a long day of travel.

Another unexpected issue was the noise level. The hotel bar played loud music until about 1:00 a.m., something that was not mentioned on their website or booking listing. Had I known in advance, I would have reconsidered my stay, especially since I had to wake up early to get my motorcycle serviced and travel to London the next day.

Personal Belongings Taken from My Room

One of the most concerning aspects of my stay was that some of my personal belongings were removed from my room without my consent. My heater was taken while I was out, and when I asked about it, staff claimed it was because they didn't realize I had extended my stay for a second night. However, this explanation didn’t make sense, as my coat, socks, and other items were left untouched. Regardless of the reasoning, hotel staff should never remove guests' personal belongings from their rooms. This incident seriously undermined my trust, making me feel uneasy about leaving my belongings unattended.

Food Quality

The food was a mixed experience. The pulled pork and onion rings were excellent, but the chips were disappointing, and the beef burger was underwhelming. It wasn’t the worst meal I’ve had, but certainly not something I’d go out of my way to recommend.

Final Thoughts

The new management has only recently taken over, and I genuinely hope they address the many issues with this hotel. The spacious rooms and abundance of plug sockets were appreciated, but the overall experience was severely impacted by poor cleanliness, faulty amenities, missing essentials, and the unacceptable removal of personal belongings.

Would I stay here again? Not in its current state. There is potential for improvement, but significant changes need to be made.

Hands down the worst roast dinner I've ever had, if anywhere in the country can make a roast anywhere near as naff as this it'd be an achievement, veg was like cheap frozen Iceland veg, gravy was some sort of weird jelly and served in a plastic takeaway tub, cauliflower cheese was just cauliflower shrapnel nuts with a burger cheese slice grilled onto it and I don't even want to talk about the meat. Not a bad pint tbh but couldn't eat the food, for the price charged you could do with sourcing some decent ingredients and someone who knows how to cook them.

HIGHLEY RECOMMEND

I had my birthday celebrations here, Donna Sam and there staff was amazing. There was nothing to big or small for them.
I also had friends staying here and rooms was a little tired but then new management are working on it all. If there was a problem they sorted it asap.
The landlady even Borrowed my friends a hair dryer as there was not one in the room.
Please remember they not been here long and are doing a FANTASTIC job. As said HIGHLEY RECOMMEND

2nd visit to this place and the food is exceptionally good! Compliments to the chef/owner Sam, for an amazing mixed grill and brunel basher burger meal. Portions sizes are great too. Never been so vocal about enjoying a meal so much. Best mixed grill I've ever tasted (and I love a mixed grill). Definitely worth £23.95! You're underselling your food, I'd pay at least £30 for it.
