We stayed over Christmas (24th/25th). The hotel wasn't open on Christmas day but their sister hotel/pub (The County) across the road provided all the necessary services (eg. breakfast, additional room refreshments etc). The stay got off to a good start when the lady I spoke to when booking was very friendly and helpful. I later worked out this was Fiona, the owner of the business, who clearly knows how to provide great customer service. We then received an email shortly before the visit with helpful additional information on parking. This was followed by a call from FIona to check we had arrangements for food on Christmas day, knowing the hotel wasn't open. During the call Fiona provided a helpful list of other restaurants that they recommended ranging from italian and indian to mexican, tapas and french bistro. |On arrival we were welcomed by the team who also provided additional parking information (the local knowledge was very helpful and saved us a lot of car moving during our stay) and were happy to lend us things for our room eg. plates! |On Christmas day we were made welcome at the sister hotel (The County) where we were able to have a lunch time drink and complimentary mince pies. A perfect treat before we went out to dinner at a local Indian Restaurant. Both restaurants we went to were recommended by Fiona and were excellent - see individual reviews. |We will definitely be back in the future. Thank you to the team.

Stopped for lunch, was very quiet. Order arrived after a fairly long wait considering how quiet it was! 1 order was wrong so was taken back and rectified quickly with no fuss.
Other half had chips with their meal and said they tasted like oil needed changing.
I had soup, very nice. Sandwiches were average.
OK for a cheap lunch.

We had a lovely stay at the coach and horses. It's surprisingly quiet in the rooms even when there's music playing downstairs. Lots of little touches like face masks and robes made it a lovely stay, the beds are comfy. All the staff are really friendly. Breakfast was good too.

If I could hand out awards , they’d of won the worst Sunday dinner award in Hexham.

Called in to the Coach and horses due to everywhere else in Hexham being busy and here was quiet. Should have been a sign to turn back round !

Got served fairly quickly and order chicken goujons to start with and 2 Sunday diners - one turkey and one beef.

The starter arrives fairly quickly and to be fair it was tasty. Crispy chicken sided with a nice dipping sauce.

Once the starter was taken away our dinner arrived straight away , which was far too quick for a proper dinner to be cooked.

Straight away the dinner was slightly warm and the gravey looked like dish water. Requested for extra gravy hoping it would be a little better but sadly that wasn’t the case.

However I thought I’d give it a try as looks can be deceiving but it tasted as bad as it looked unfortunately. All veg was just either mush or dry. It tasted like it had been pre cooked , then warmed up and left to the side to serve straight away. Then the serving of beef was huge , 3 great big slices. No wonder you got a lot it must of been the cheapest cut of meat possible! Trying to chew it was like eating a bulls lug. Really disappointing and when mentioned to staff that the beef was poor and they could tell by the plate not much was eaten all that was said is that the chef would be informed.

Really disappointing experience at The Coach and Horses, if you are looking for a good meal in Hexham please go to The County over the road where you will get a good meal.

Went in for lunch and a couple of drinks with friends while on holiday. Firstly our waitress was so very pleasant, smiling and couldn't help us enough, even gave our dog a bowl of water and a couple of doggie treats. The food was excellent, very tasty, well presented and plentiful, even the small plate had more than enough on it to satisfy a hungry tummy. The cost of the dishes was very very reasonable too. Lastly the barmaid was jolly with a smile from ear to ear and it was a joy to be served by her. Overall I would highly recommend this establishment.

Just passing through, we had lunch and drinks in the bar. Food was fantastic, generous portions, compliments to the chef. Lady behind the bar was brilliant.|Service was excellent (thanks for the gravy on the side). Overall a very pleasant experience, would definitely recommend, and we’ll be back next time we’re in Hexham.

We didn’t enjoy our meal very much. It wasn’t awful but we heard the waitress telling someone that the Rotary Club are in on a Monday and that the wait would be about half an hour. The staff were efficient but seemed quite harassed, often running around. We didn’t particularly enjoy the meal and probably wouldn’t return. The hot turkey sandwich had gloopy gravy in, with a rubbery texture. The sauce on the chicken and BBQ melt tasted very artificial and too sweet. Think we maybe caught them on a bad day. 😅 We weren’t asked how our meal was when paying, which is quite unusual, I think they knew our thoughts.
