Lovely food!|My partner and I stayed last week as part of a tour of the Scottish Highlands. Our room was comfortable and clean and the food was excellent and very nicely presented. The service was occasionally a bit haphazard (I'm thinking young, inexperienced staff) but no problems and nobody was going to starve. The surrounding countryside was beautiful - great suggestions for woodland walks from some of the hotel staff.

We stayed for one night in the Craiglynne hotel, it was a birthday present from family. First of all, the positives: the hotel is a beautiful old building set in lovely grounds. The lobby is well furnished, comfortable and attractive to sit in. The dinner we had there was delicious, and beautifully presented. However, quite a few niggles unfortunately. Communication- we tried to call the hotel in advance to confirm the details of our booking, and it was very difficult either to get an answer to the phone or find someone who could help us. We were told several times to phone back between certain times then when we did there was no answer or we got the same person who told us again to phone back later. An email went unanswered. When we arrived, we were shown to our room on the top floor, although clean and modernised, the room was stiflingly hot and when we asked for a fan we were told they had none. Also our room had no television which is pretty standard in any hotel these days. That was disappointing to be honest. ||The staff were generally not at all attentive. The hotel was full with coach parties and it was very busy. With the exception of Brett the barman who worked his socks off in the dining room as well as the bar, and when we were finally served Charlie our waiter, the staff did not seem enthusiastic, or really that bothered. ||Overall we enjoyed our stay but the room and the service could have been better.

My husband and I stayed here for one night. The hotel has a beautiful, classic charm — from the exterior to the lobby, it really gives off those timeless, elegant vibes.

However, once you're inside, it becomes clear that the place really needs some renovation or repair. The floors were incredibly squeaky, to the point where it was hard to get a peaceful night's sleep.

It's a lovely place with potential, but definitely in need of some upkeep to match its charm with comfort.

I would just like to say that I stayed at the Craiglynne Hotel last week and found nothing wrong with it at all!|I stayed for 2 nights with my partner and we took along our 11 year old labrodor.|The staff are very friendly and smiling, the breakfast was an absolute treat and the evening meal options were delicious. There was a brother/sister singing act one night which had guests singing and some even dancing.|Just for clarification, the accommodation for guests with dogs are kept separate from other guests and have their meals in a separate room. During my stay, I found every dog I met to be exceptionally behaved and have to say they made most guests smile, stop and speak to them with wagging tails.|Do not listen to the negative reviews left as sometimes you can't please everyone but if you are looking for a friendly place to stay at Grantown-on-Spey, look no further.

1.No towels or soap in our room on arrival.|2.Collection of hair on bathroom floor on arrival.|3.Two fire doors regularly wedged open on ground floor.|4. Black hand grime on communal doors.|5. Stale salad leaves regularly served at evening meals.|6. “Warm roll” was never served with soup starter despite description on menu describing this as a choice.|7.Ground floor fire escape door wedged open every day allowing leaves and debris to blow into corridor directly outside our room.

Location was perfect, Decor in room requires freshening up, Back of the door and part of facings were fresh painted but not completed. Shower requires cleaning (Black mould just needs Bleaching ) and the plastic seals replaced They were yellowed with age. Staff were Very efficient and Friendly 😀

The fact that a tour company like Trafalgar would select this property for two nights astounds me. Of the 40 people on our tour 20 are trying to move anywhere else in town. No air in rooms and windows don’t open. No fans. Lift doesn’t work so be prepared to climb stairs with your luggage. If you can fit your luggage in your room be grateful. Staff doesn’t care that you aren’t happy with service. Only positives are the dinner was excellent and hot water is hot- very very hot.

We were sadly disappointed with our visit to the hotel. I’m giving it three stars instead of one as staff were lovely but that wasn’t enough to make it a good experience. Usually it’s “you get what you pay for” but we paid £110 for a double room for the night and £44 for a meal with two drinks. I’m aware it’s the Scottish Highlands but the price remains unjustified (and we live in Edinburgh, so we’re used to extortionate prices). Before I decided to book I read in the reviews that the hotel needs a makeover but that’s an understatement. The shower was unusable; it went from freezing cold to boiling hot no matter what settings we’d choose. I stepped out of the shower covered in soap and it was impossible for me to finish. There is a sink in the room (not in the bathroom) which is strange although I understand it’s an old hotel. Most importantly, the entire floor creaks (a lot)… both the floor we walked on and the one of the upstairs floor which was annoying. That meant I couldn’t go to the bathroom at night without waking up others. That also meant that when people upstairs decided to get up at 6am we could no longer sleep. It’s sadly not a noise you can sleep through. All in all, we felt like £110 was totally unjustified and we travel across the UK a lot, we’re familiar with locations and it’s not our first time in the Cairngorms. I’m not leaving this review lightly but I believe it had to be shared. The hotel looks much nicer in the photos but it’s too dated even for a 3-star hotel.
