This is our honest account of our recent stay at this hotel.|Despite booking this hotel several months ago and registering my credit card details on a no cancellation basis, they proceeded to call us on Saturday at around 5pm asking if we still wanted the room or not, even though we had already let them know of our scheduled arrival time, as they could let it out, to which we said yes and we were on the way, this seemed a bit strange and we have never experienced this previously. ||On check in, we registered further information and then paid £158.00 ( room only ) I then had to pay a further £50.00 for preauthorisation, so I thought that there must be a mini bar, PPV TV etc…( There wasn’t )…||We then proceeded to check into our 1st room 2405, after starting to unpack, I switched the lights on by the bedside table, they were wet through, water was running through the ceiling lights above and everywhere below was soaked, table, carpet, phone etc… ||We then we packed everything up, went back down to reception where the next person who “helped” us couldn’t be bothered really and wasn’t concerned & didn't apologise when I showed her the video of all the water, all over the table lights switches etc… She didn’t seem to understand that water and electricity can be dangerous…. ||After a while we then got given another room, so we went back up 24 floors to room 2408, we then opened the door and walked in, only to see that the room was in use already and there were personal belongings everywhere… How can they not know that the room was in use already. This is a big security breach! ||We then went back downstairs, after about 15 minutes they managed to get us another room and up went again to room 2422, to which we were told that this room had no working TV, also when went into the room had 2 single beds, when we booked a double room…with all this messing about we lost over an hour and because of this we ended up being late for the restaurant and we also missed the warm up act for the concert that we were going to see. ||The room went from freezing cold to incredibly hot throughout the night, with no middle temperature, on check out the next day 2 sets of guests in front of us didn’t have any heating and were cold all night, so there is a serious heating issue in this building. ||Checking out the following morning the assistant manager offered us 20% discount, we said that this wasn’t good enough, they whole stay had not been a positive experience. To which they replied we would have to wait until 12pm, for the manager to arrive to discuss with them further (it was 10am at this point). We weren’t going to wait for 2 hours for this, so we accepted a 30% discount and left. ||I wouldn’t stay here again, the hotel needs a re-vamp of the building, facilities & some of the staff.

Upon arrival, the people in front of us had to shout to get someone out of the back room to come and check them in we then had to wait ages because one of the lifts was broke and we were told it been broke for weeks. Once we got to the 24th floor, we had a room with a balcony which had glass all around in like a triangle shape. The room was stunning when we first walked in. The views were amazing couldn’t fault them. It was only when we put our stuff down started looking around. We noticed that the curtains were hanging off the rails all around the room. The carpets were severely stained. There was writing on the window in dust which has been there, God knows how long we noticed there was rose petals under the bedside table, which were obviously from previous people, light fittings weren’t working. When we got in after going out for food, the room was freezing we tried to turn the heating on and there was no heating. We rang reception three times to try and get through to someone and they said they will try and reset it still nothing worked. We rang back down to reception and they said they would bring us a heater up. They then turned up with a heater which was broken so we slept in our dressing gowns all night and it was 2° in the room. It’s a shame because the views again were absolutely amazing. When it’s a treat and a very expensive room, you almost feel very disappointed staff on exit were told about size shoes and we were offered a 20% discount which on £190 room doesn’t really seem a lot when you didn’t really sleep. Breakfast again was two for one and was faultless

TL;DR: Fantastic location, non-existent service, cleaning is so-so, good luck getting your deposit back, and their rooms are degrading rapidly.

Travel to Birmingham often for work and have stayed here many times over the past few years. While the service has never been great (empty front desk, yet phone line is non-existent?), the quality of the rooms has rapidly gone downhill in the last year or so.

Upon entry they charge ÂŁ50 that cannot be taken via contactless, and the last two visits I have had to call my bank a month later to have their pending transaction cancelled, because their phone-line does not work, it just dials out.

During my last visit, the entire hotel did not have working heating, which is quite a big deal in winter, and looking at other reviews, this has been an issue for months. There was no notice anywhere prior to booking, and they still charge the same rate. The visit prior, television wasn't working and there were elevator problems.

The views are either great (corner rooms & facing southside), or awful (tiny windows, half the room in shadows, etc..), and if you are unfortunate to get a room on the 23rd floor, or any of their balcony rooms, then everyone can see into your room very easily. Floor space also varies based luck, as does the bathroom facilities.

Cleanliness of the room is okay, but still somewhat dirty. Daily cleaning does not take place unless you're lucky. Previously rooms would also have free cans of drink, water, coffee, tea, a pack of crisps, and a chocolate bar but this seems to no longer be the case.

Dreadful! Had to shout to get the receptionist out of the back office to check in (why not have a bell?). Receptionist was non-plussed when I offered to pay the deposit with contactless payment.

Got to the room which was freezing (visit 11/12/24). Reception checked me into another room (reluctantly!) which was just as cold. The heating controller was showing error codes in both rooms. Portable heaters were promised but never arrived. Had to sit in my coat to keep warm in the evening.

One of the two lifts was out of service with the rated capacity of 14 reduced to 6. I wondered why.

The hotel redeemed itself a little by providing a good breakfast (if you avoid the pastries).

I understand that the hotel is in administration. If it wants to survive, it will have to do much better.

The hotel is based over 2 floors with the restaurant above and what appears to be apartments underneath.

The rooms are nice, comfy bed with a great view!
Had a good deal on booking.com with breakfast included, which was really tasty and again, having near panoramic views at breakfast was great!

They do cocktail deals and have a nice balcony with a view out over the city.

No parking, if you use the Mailbox, book before arriving otherwise you will likely be charged extra.
EG arrive at 1300, book parking and arrive at car park at 1320, you will be charged extra

One of the worst hotel experiences in my life.
To begin, when we arrived there was nobody at the reception desk. We had to wait a few minutes for somebody to come and help us. The lobby area was freezing and one of the lifts were broken.

When we got to our room, it was incredibly cold, but we had dinner reservations so put on the heating and then left to go and eat. The lifts are in use to get to the restaurant on the top floor, so you are waiting for five minutes just to get anywhere.

Upon getting back to our room just after midnight, the room had not warmed up and it was less than 15 degrees in the room. Checking the AC panel there was an error on it. We tried multiple times to call reception but there was no answer.

The soundproofing in the room is also non-existent. If you are on the 24th floor good luck sleeping. The noise from the club and bar upstairs is incredibly loud and goes on until 2am then starts back up at 8am. Sleeping is impossible at this hotel.

We booked a king bed (I’m 6’4"), but the bed itself was simply two single beds together. This should be illegal to advertise as a king bed. Having my feet dangle off the end of the bed was not an enjoyable experience.

Please do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere. There are so many other hotels in the area that are much nicer.
