Excellent old-school British pub! Lots of locals (always a good sign), family friendly, couples-friendly, dog friendly. Very good proper pub food (fish and chips, burgers, beef stew etc.) which was fresh and came quickly, good beer. Bustling, intimate, fantastic atmosphere. What’s not to like? We’ll be back!

Visited on Boxing Day - staff were very helpful. My daughter was needing somewhere to breastfeed. We were shown into the beautiful Long Room which was welcoming with a log fire. We all loved it and will return. All had drinks & a bowl of chips which were delicious after a two hour Boxing Day walk.

This pub is exactly as a proper pub should be. Great welcome, great beer selection, including 4 real ales from the cask, and great pub food done well with good portion size, with a management team who really go out of their way to make you welcome. This is community owned, and they are doing all the basics brilliantly. on top of this, it's a historic building in an amazing location . If you can visit, please do: this is a pub worth going well out of your way for.

We have just enjoyed the best Sunday lunch in a pub ever at this beautifully atmospheric old pub, nestled on the fringes of Dartmoor.
Thick cuts of tender beef accompanied by a great selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, all washed down by a fantastic selection of beers.
Can't wait to go back!

The food was superb! We had fish and chips which came with minty peas, amazing chips and homemade tartar sauce. I'm not usually teh one for minty peas but this one was something else, absolutely well composed proportions, wouldn't have thought it can be so nice. We tried the walnut parsnip soup too - it was creamy and sophisticated!
Atmosphere was cosy, staff friendly and accommodating and there was a live fire going! We will be back!

What a fabulous place! Had some delicious cider and a wonderful summer stew with mash (nice big portions), my friends' meals were all great too. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Well worth the hike up and down the hills to get there and back. The pub itself has a great history and the little rooms are traditional and cosy. A proper gem!

What a brilliant pub! I was in there on a Wednesday evening and it was buzzing. Excellent selection of beers and I had the best fish and chips in the last six months - and that includes visits to fish and chip shops in Whitby, Oban and Whitstable. Excellent.

Lovely community pub with a great atmosphere. The food was fresh and tasty; a definite improvement on 'pub grub'. Good selection of local ales too. Highly recommended.
